Day 36: Waiting Room/Lobby 1

Oct 21, 2008 09:14

Oh yeah. This was bad. Grabbing a chair and ignoring the woman who had brought him in, Takaya crossed his arms and glared at the wall. He wasn't going to participate in this bullshit. Being told he had 'company' and that he should he happy about it had ruined what was otherwise an okay day ( Read more... )

Flo wasn't a name that registered for someone who'd been Brook for nearly Ninety years, but the voice did catch some attention. Not enough to have Brook jump out of his chair with excitement over hearing such a voice, but enough to have him reminisce just a bit. "Yohohoho, sounds almost like Yorki..." he chuckled to himself, but stopped when his eyes landed on who the voice belonged to.

The hat was the first giveaway - not many people wore that style normally - but when Brook saw the face he froze in place. That was who the voice belonged to? But... that was Yorki! But it couldn't be Yorki! Yorki was...! While Brook had entertained the thought that Yorki and the rest of his crew had survived their passage through the Clam Belt, were he to meet his Captain again he'd have to be at least eighty years old, if not older! The young man he was seeing couldn't be Yorki. It just couldn't!

He remained frozen, too stunned to do more than stare as the person took a seat next to him. Up close he looked even more like the Captain. The little tattoos were even in the same places, and the laugh was the same too. What was going on?! He was acting just like him, and like nothing had ever gone wrong - still friends who laughed and teased and everything!

Then there was only one logical answer!

"GHOST!" Once Brook's mind had worked out the logic of the situation, he shrieked, bolted to his feet, threw his hands in the air and attempted to run screaming as though he were a ten-year-old girl.

"HEY!" Yohan reached out quickly and grabbed Florien by the back of his shirt, stumbling out of the chair as this didn't immediately stop him. "What's that nonsense? I am not!" He did glance over his shoulder briefly in the off-chance that... no, that was silly.

"Don't go running away from me after I came up here to see you, damn it!" Keeping his grip on Florien's shirt, he grabbed the man's arm with his other hand - all the while keeping an eye on the nurses to make sure they didn't try an intervene. "Settle down now. Come back and sit, scrawny."

Brook almost fell face forward into the ground, but he wound up sliding in his slippers on the tile floor. Still, he was freaked out by the ghost grabbing at his shirt and telling him to "calm down". Who would calm down when there was a ghost grabbing them! It probably wanted to eat his soul!

"But...! Here...! You...! You can't...!" The shrieking continued, high pitched and panicked as Brook dared give a glance over his own shoulder at the image of his friend. He flailed a bit more when another hand grabbed him and looked away. "No, let me go, let me g--!" he'd intended on panicking far more, but something stopped him - some more of that logic he was supposed to be using.

Ghosts couldn't grab people.

He did not relax, but the panic shifted over to confusion. If a ghost couldn't grab things - because everyone knew they'd only go right through things - then how was Yorki's ghost grabbing him like that? Slowly, tension easing little by little, he looked back. "Eh...?" he managed, snuffling back some tears of fright.

[ooc: It's Florian with an "A", Laureeeen~ Like the Triangle!]

[WAH. I'm sorrrrry!]

"There. Right. See? It's just me - your old buddy Yohan." The man readjusted his hat, having almost lost it in the dive for his friend. "So you calm back down and take a seat, or I'll start calling you your favorite nickname right in front of everyone. Don't think I won't, 'Aunt Flo.'" He lowered his voice for the last bit, a light smirk on his face.

"No ghosts here." It was sad, though, seeing his friend like this. He wanted to think it was just Florian toying around with him, but after he'd been admitted here...

He sniffed again, looking this "friend" over much more clearly now that he had his doubts about him being a ghost. Yes, solid. Very solid for how he'd been grabbed twice! But that was about the extent to which Brook could make sense of things.

"Yo... han?" he tried, face scrunching in confusion. The first letters were right, but the last three were definitely not! Not unless Yorki had gone and changed names on him! But that wasn't the only thing to consider. Who was this "Aunt Flo"? Brook recalled hearing that name a time before when he'd first heard the man's voice, but that wasn't his name. And he was certain Brook did not sound anything like "Flo"!

Trying to get things clear, Brook made a list in his mind of what he'd gathered about the situation:
1. He was being called "Flo"
2. This man's name was Yohan instead of Yorki
3. Apparently this Yohan thought he was "Flo" and therefore they were buddies
and 4. M-maybe it really was possible for ghosts to grab things! No scratch 4, that would be too scary!

Right, so knowing those things... was there anything that made sense really?

The man nodded vigorously. "Yes! Yohan!" He could only hope that this was a sign of recognition. Maybe seeing him would have everything suddenly coming back to his friend and he would recover faster. Probably too much to hope for.

"So come sit back down and we'll talk for a while." His tone was calmer now, less humor to his voice now that it was obvious Florian was still very much unwell. At best he wanted to be back to joking with his old friend before visiting time was up. That would be something.

With nothing better to do, Brook gave the seat he'd been a look and tried to calm himself. "Ah, yes... talk..." he agreed hesitantly, this time taking the seat as instructed. Talking would... hopefully sort out this situation. He just didn't understand; nothing was making sense.

All he could understand was that, by eyesight alone, he was looking at a face he'd only seen in his dreams these fifty years past.

Much better. Yohan nodded in approval as he made himself comfortable again. With luck, there'd be no more trying to run away. As though to further seal the idea that he was quite solid, the man patted Florian on the shoulder a couple times.

"Well at least you're in good shape," he joked lightly. "And I was worried they might make you cut your hair or something, but I'm glad that's not the case. Flo without the 'fro is a no-go!" He laughed, even though it hadn't been the best of lines.

The pats again confirmed that the man was not a ghost or a ghost that could touch things, but they still had Brook feeling more wary than relaxed. Thoughts of ghosts and the like were still fresh in his head, granted - Thriller Bark was by no means a place that could easily be forgotten - but something about the action was more familiar than the memories of that place. Fifty-years-ago familiar.

But that still just couldn't be!

Talk of his afro gave a focus for him though, and Brook ran after it both to keep his mind from thinking too much on the possibility that this somehow really was Yorki, and because he'd been given a bit of a concern regarding his hair.

"Make me?!" he yelped, hands going up to each side of his afro, "I would like to see them try!" If anyone so much as laid a little pinky on his afro with the intent to harm it, Brook would defend it to the ends of the Earth and then some!

That caused Yohan to laugh even more. He could just imagine Florian trying to fight off nurses with a comb or whatever else he could get his hands on if they came after his hair. Thankfully, the staff here didn't seem to think this was necessary. They didn't want to make him even more loony, after all!

"I'd like to see that too," he chuckled. "Well, not in the sense of them trying to cut it as much as the spectacle it would cause." Yohan grinned. "As it should cause. But thankfully it's as bushy as ever."

A comb, a brush, even a hairpin would be used to defend his look if he'd no other option! It had been fifty years that he had looked this way, and he was not about to give that up now!

"It would be a spectacle quickly concluded, I assure you!" As Hell hath no fury like a skeleton defending his hair! Or something like that... "But it's not the people here who are the biggest threats to it, you realize? No, there was this tree outside - terrible thing! - that tried to take it away! Can you imagine?! I'd never thought that a tree could hate hair so much!"

Perhaps Brook was not making a whole lot of sense, but babbling was just something he did, and something he did an awful lot of when he did not understand what was going on. Focusing on hair and what trees did to them was just his way of dealing with what had quickly become a strange situation. He still had no answer for why he was "Flo" or why this person was even here, but talking was the best way to determine things! And... admittedly... he was kind of having fun for it.

Yohan had to cover his mouth with one hand to avoid laughing so loudly that it attracted the attention of the nurses. Some of Florian's ranting could be seen as crazy talk from anyone that didn't know him. No, this wasn't the reason Flo was there. This was perfectly normal. The man had probably gotten his hair snagged in some branches while out in the courtyard. He was certainly tall enough for it. Oh, how Yohan wished he could have been around to see that.

"Damn trees," he choked out between guffaws. "Hope you taught it a lesson!"

"I...!" he nearly began a rant about how he'd given it what for for which Usopp would have been proud, but he ended up pausing. Ah, he'd gotten caught up in the moment, hadn't he? "Well, I do intend to to do so! But I've yet to return for a rematch as of yet!" Meaning that he'd lost the last round. If this man was anything like his friend, he'd understand that much without having to be told. "Yohohoho! But first chance I get it will be sure to pay for its atrocious crime!"

Laughing more, Yohan was glad to see that Florian was acting much more like his old self now than when he'd first walked in. Maybe he could get the nurses to allow him to visit more often if this was going to be the result.

The laugh was a bit odd, sorta pirate sounding, and it was hard to tell if it was really a laugh or a play on his name. Either way, he was glad enough for Flo's current attitude that he wasn't going to bring it up. "Trees are tricksy things," he chuckled. "You may have to get some others together and gang up on it."

"Gang up?" he echoed the proposition, then pouted, "That would be a terrible idea! And unfair as well! The tree is my opponent so it is I who must be the one to face it again, and without assistance!" Usopp was, however, welcome to stick around and watch if he wished for some more of that wood he was hunting. There was sure to be plenty following!

Yohan just snickered at that. The mental imagery he was getting from all this was beyond hilarious. "All right, fair enough. Just you and the tree in a man to plant battle."

He leaned back in his seat, tipping his hat down a little. "But aside from attacking trees, how have you been?"
