"Yes, it's me, Paul," she replied as she took a seat next to him. The compliment made her smile. "And thank you." At least he'd recognized her. Anita had heard some patients here acted as if they didn't know their own friends or family. But it was almost like old times, and she didn't even have to ask who Paul was referring to. "Well, I figured if I wanted to know how they were doing, I wouldn't go asking them directly -- especially not with them in the same room together." Because of course if she visited one, she would have had to see the other. But, unfortunately, there was only so much time in a day.
"You know what I mean, don't you?" she asked. Then she quickly added, "But of course I'm interested in seeing how you're doing, too."
