Day 36: Recreational Field

Oct 17, 2008 12:14

Somehow, talking to Rude had almost managed the impossible; it had almost cheered her up.

Gawd. What was with this? The whole 'amiable relations with Turks' thing was good, but if she thought about it too hard, it was weird. Well, not weird... Maybe they were just falling for her drop-dead gorgeous looks and amazing personality. That wouldn't be ( Read more... )

After that delightful brunch, Elle immediately headed for the outdoors. She could spend the next two shifts lounging around in the sun before she was forced back inside. And had to deal with her little roommate problem.

She felt a twinge of envy as several patients were tapped to go see visitors, but reminded herself that she didn't need her Daddy to visit. No matter what she pretended, she wasn't Claire - she didn't need to be joined to her father at the hip. And who knew? Maybe the whole visitors thing was a smoke screen, and they were secretly getting dragged off to underground kill rooms where they'd be butchered like sheep. That thought cheered her up a bit ( ... )

Armand watched the nurses carefully, but the one that came for him only asked him where he wanted to go. He didn't have a visitor. Perhaps Marguerite Madeleine wouldn't visit this week. He hoped desperately that she did.

So with nothing better to do with himself, he asked to go outside. He may as well get some sunshine. He spotted a girl with her limbs half-exposed in a very scandalous pose, lying on the ground as if inviting perverts to look at her, which he didn't. However, it was his sort of luck that that's where his nurse led him. "Gilles, you don't have enough friends. Spend some time with his nice young lady."

"But--" Armand blushed and tried to reach for the nurse's arm. She was too quick for him, and then he was alone.

"Er... hello... miss. I'm Armand." He looked vaguely off to the side instead of right at her.

Elle had started to doze off when she felt someone's shadow fall on her. She let her arm fall by her side and blinked up at the guy looking everywhere but at her.

Aw, he was kinda cute. In an awkward sort of way.

"Do you mind?" she asked as nicely as possible. "You're blocking my light."

Armand glanced down at her, blushed, and stepped to one side. "I apologize," he said. "The nurse made me come over here." He averted his eyes again. "I didn't mean to cause trouble."

Like Kenshin, after the first shift Sanosuke had wanted some time to himself. Plus, not talking had let him eat his fill of the various foods, and then some. It wasn't at all bad stuff, really, even if it wasn't what he was used to. Already Sanosuke was thinking about what he wanted to get later on when he went back. At least until he got outside ( ... )

Yuffie bounced the Frisbee off of her foot, catching it smoothly between two fingers and swinging it around smoothly to rest on her shoulder. "Yo," she greeted casually, smiling. The exercise and the fresh air was doing wonders for her mood, so it wasn't any strain to act like nothing had happened both last night and this morning.

Kenshin wasn't the problem, anyways. The problem was... Arriving just now. Joy!

She shifted her stance slightly when Sagara reached them, resting one loosely clenched fist on her hip. "We were plotting world domination." Flippancy seemed like the safest way to go, and despite how her grip tightened on her disc, she refrained from nailing Sagara in the face with it... for now. "Don't worry, though!" Her smile quirked, "We'd only just decided what horribly awful punishment we'd inflict on perverts, so you haven't missed anything too important."

... Okay, so that hadn't been as subtle as she'd been hoping for. And if her cheeks were just a little pink, she was pretending not to notice.

Brunch had been rather boring for the demon, with food she wasn't interested in, and a nurse nagging her, saying that she needed to start eating more or she'd waste away. Well, if they'd make the monsters come after her more often then she'd be glad to eat more. Of course that wasn't something that she could say out loud, not around other people. Nami was the only person who had known and she was...

Outside was the first place that she chose to go, of course. She was never going to pass up a chance to see the sky. She found a spot near the edge of the field and lay down on the grass, heedless of the chance of getting grass stains on her clothing.

The thought made the boy's skin crawl, but the fact remained: the dead were revived in the institute. Ken-- older Ken mentioned the possibility while Shiki confirmed it; there were even passing notes of the subject on the bulletin. How could he or Yukari deny it now, knowing what they did?

More importantly, what did it mean for them?

When the nurse offered the choices for activities, it took Ken a moment to decide, due to questions constantly interrupting his train of thought. In the end, he opted for the recreational field. Indoors would only make him restless.

The decision turned out to be the best he'd made for the day. Upon entering the field, Ken spotted a fluff of bright pink hair, its owner being the same person he'd been hoping to speak with regarding another topic the trio had discussed at brunch. Quietly, without wanting to startle her, he approached.

"Argilla-san?"

Argilla opened her eyes and tilted her head back when she heard her name being called, regarding the boy who was approaching her. She smiled at him and patted the ground next to her. Ken, that was his name. "One day, someone will explain to me why I keep being called 'san'," she said with a soft laugh. Some people used it, some people didn't and she really had no idea what it meant.

"Did you want something?"

She didn't know what "san" was? Ken supposed he could enlighten her then. "Oh, 'san' is an honorific, a title of sorts," he explained while sitting down on the indicated spot. "Like 'Mr.' or 'Mrs.' in English. It's generally polite to use it where I come from."

The child looked up at Argilla, glad she brought up the perfecting opening for his question. "Yes, actually," he began. "I was wondering if you knew my friend Yukari. Takeba Yukari."

Yuuri didn't see Wolfram all throughout the lunch period, and he was beginning to get worried. What if he had been taken like how Claire had described? It was a thought that didn't settle well with him.

He'd looked through the Sun Room and the adjoining rooms before making his way outside. If he didn't come across the blonde Mazoku soon then he'd have to start asking questions. Although, the breeze did feel nice as he made his way out to the recreational field.

There were a few patients mulling around the area, but none of them he recognised.

The end of the meal period came as a relief to Hanatarou, as it meant he could get away from the vice-captain and keep from potentially embarrassing himself any more. If that was even possible, really - he clearly hadn't been making a good impression on the other shinigami here ( ... )

Yuuri sighed in defeat when his search outside didn't bring him any favourable results. Just where had Wolfram disappeared to? He hadn't been there long enough to know the details of how this place worked. Was it normal for patients to just up and disappear without a trace? He'd have to ask Cloud about that, or Hohenheim, the next time he saw either of them.

Lost in his thoughts, Yuuri didn't even sense the incoming encounter until he heard the yelp as someone stumbling over onto the grass beside him.

"Eh?" Yuuri questioned as he turned to glance. He moved to help, but the other boy was up and back on his feet even before he could fully extend his hand. Using his extended hand to rub the back of his head awkwardly, Yuuri grinned. "Ahh it's not your fault. I wasn't paying attention either!"

Hanatarou peeked up at the other cautiously before he straightened up again, somewhat relieved that the stranger didn't seem annoyed at him. In fact, he almost seemed like he might be friendly. Maybe his first day here had just been an exceptionally bad one, because he hadn't been tormented (much) since then.

"Um. That's very nice, but I'm sure it was all my fault for being so clumsy. I'm sorry!" The shinigami managed a hesitant smile and ducked his head. "W-were you looking for someone? Maybe I could help?"

How he could help, he really didn't know, but it did seem polite to offer. He had interrupted what looked like a search, after all.

Sasuke was in a better mood by the third shift than he had been when he'd woken up. Useful conversations around this place had been scarce for Sasuke recently (although he chose not to think about precisely why), and two productive ones in a row had improved his temper somewhat.

That didn't stop him from glowering at his nurse when she suggested he relax in a nice quiet room. It had been way too long since he'd last run any kata, and that was the only way to get any kind of training done during the day in this place.

The woman left him a relatively quiet place and walked away, much to Sasuke's relief, and he started working through patterns. Starting slow, he soon worked up to faster patterns -- basic strikes and kicks, although he made sure to avoid anything too dangerous-looking in case the staff got antsy.

Still, anyone with a trained eye could probably see that it wasn't exactly the sort of thing to be used in a friendly spar.

[free or not? if you mind i'll delete!]

Zabuza had come out to stretch his body and he saw that annoying boy.

"You look like an idiot," he growled out after he got close to Sasuke. He knew what Sasuke was actually doing, of course, and would probably have done it on his own. He was only really saying it to attempt to irritate the boy.

[[Jiraiya and Naruto are going to join them, but we're happy to have you if you don't mind a big thread! 8D;;]]The voice that interrupted Sasuke abruptly reminded him of the last time he'd been out here doing more or less the same thing. Hell, it was even the same voice ( ... )

Zabuza watched Sasuke and narrowed his eyes.

"What's wrong with you?" he asked, this time it wasn't just a general 'I'm trying to antagonize you' question. He hadn't seen or spoken with Sasuke since the boy had been blinded and Haku hadn't told him about it either. He was actually curious. He didn't realize that Sasuke couldn't see, just that something was off.
