Day 36: The Sun Room

Oct 10, 2008 10:13

For the first time since arriving at Landel's, Elle woke up feeling... almost peaceful. She lay in bed for several minutes, adjusting to certain things. Mostly the fact that her left arm was in a sling. And her shoulder didn't hurt as much as she would have expected it to, which probably meant she was on meds ( Read more... )

Oh no! He was back in his room again! Brook sat up quickly, but ended up halting for the soreness in his body. Right, his scuffle with the tree. Moving so quickly might not be such a good idea.

But Archer! Brook hadn't gotten back to him or the others! He looked across from his bed, but did not find his roommate there. He must have been taken already. At least Brook hoped that was the case. He'd have never forgiven himself if something had happened to his roommate down in that scary basement while Brook had been absent.

After the nurse came and got him to the Sun Room, Brook looked about first for Archer, then for the rest of the group from the previous evening but did not see a soul. "They must be... in another room," he told himself, "Yes, that's it. Just somewhere else. I'll find them eventually!" And for that matter, he should probably search for Chopper and the others from the Courtyard as well. They'd have to be around as well, wouldn't they?

Ah, but it was the morning though, and helping others to cheer up from a terrible night out was something Brook just could not help himself from doing! Why, just over there on the floor was someone without anyone to talk to! He'd have to fix that!

"Yohohohohoho! Good morning!" Brook called as he plopped down next to the stranger.

Soon after Scar had situated himself on the floor, he was joined by a...rather tall human. But what stood out even more than the male's height was the peculiar-looking mane. As unfamiliar as he was with human hair (let alone afro's), the King couldn't help but to be reminded of a bush when he looked at the man's hair. Another thought today he decided to keep to himself.

And then came the greeting, a rather peculiar one at that as well. Someone happened to be a rather cheerful one, it seemed. Oh, goody...

"Good morning." he greeted back, more out of manners than anything else.

Thankfully Brook's "bush" was far less of one now that the branches had been fully removed. He'd given it a good looking over before leaving his room just to be sure he'd not lost any parts of it to his forest foe. And he hadn't which was wonderful!

At least this person was decent enough to return his greeting. Some of those Brook had approached first thing had told him far worse. Not this time though! "Ah, forgive me if I bothered you, but it is always an excellent thing getting to know others. My name is Brook, by the way. What might yours be?" he both apologized, then moved straight into the introductions, not even bothering to see if the man would rather not be bothered.

Not just cheerful, but also talkative. Scar wondered if he had just jinxed himself by comparing the nurse to a horn bill. "I am called Scar." he answered after a moment's pause.

Scar had long given up on showing if he wanted to be bothered or not. Certain individuals did it back home, and the patients here were hardly an exception. And even if they were, they'd be pushed into the direction of other patients by their oh-so-kind nurses under the excuse of 'social interaction'. Sitting by yourself seemed to be unacceptable.

Sitting by oneself was unacceptable! Not just for the nurses, but for Brook himself! It didn't do to have someone feeling lonely because no one would sit with him!

"Scar?" Brook repeated the name and tilted his head. Well, he'd heard far stranger names, but still... "Would that name, by chance, have anything to do with your eye?" he asked next. Social interaction though this may have been, Brook was not very good with observing social taboos.

"Oh dear! I had no idea it was so obvious!" Scar answered dryly. If sarcasm could drip from his words, they'd be forming a large pool on the floor right now. "Any other astounding conclusions you would like to share?"

So maybe Scar hadn't seen that question coming. In truth, his name was related with the scar over his eye, but receiving a direct question about it was incredibly rare. Not that he minded; after all, his own foolishness resulting in his renaming wasn't a subject the former lion enjoyed talking about.

So there was hardly a chance he would mention more about the matter than he already had.

"Eh?!" Brook held up his hands at the sarcasm. "Should it have been obvious?! Forgive me then! I'm not very good at realizing things, so it seems..." Like sarcasm. Brook needed to have a few lessons on recognizing it as well.

"Is that so?" he answered, his voice monotone. "Gee, I wouldn't have noticed." Not very good at realizing things? Scar thought that would be quite the understatement from what he had seen of dear Brook. Not that it stopped him from using more sarcasm.

"Then it is a good thing I explained. Yohohohohoho!"

So far as Brook knew, this conversation was going splendidly! Which was good! First impressions were very important, after all.

"So, how long have you been here, Scar-san? It's only been a few days for myself."

Scar resisted the urge to face-palm, but couldn't quite stop the sigh that escaped his lips. "I wouldn't have known what to do without it." The only reason this conversation went splendid was because the King had so much experience dealing with ignorant individuals.

"...'san' ?" Scar echoed at the part that had suddenly been added to his name. Not familiar with honorifics, he had no idea what it meant.

"A little more than a week."

Ignorant was not the word. There were a few words actually though, that would be able to describe the way Brook processed information, but ignorant was certainly not the one!

Dense worked, however.

"Ah, more than a week? I do hope I'll not have to stay here that long, or any of my friends either. We've so much to do! Yohohoho! Are any of your friends here, Scar-san?"

[ooc: While I have Brook using '-san' in his posts, his native language is English and would translate as more of a Mr. for others' ears. The meaning of '-san' simply does not translate very well if he were to use Mr. instead, so I continue to use it in his posts.]

"Well, they hardly give us any choice, do they?" Scar answered. "And no, they aren't." Not that he had any 'friends' to begin with, or at the very least probably not in Brook's definition. He simply didn't see the use of putting up with such sentimental nonsense.

Or maybe Scar was simply bitter, because it had always been Mufasa who had friends. Who had attention. Never him. But the world would end before the King would admit this to anyone. Let alone himself.

[ooc; ah, right! Sorry D: Let's just pretend he didn't ask, then.]

"True...." It was sad to think that they could be here for so long. Every day was one too many added to Laboon's wait for him. And the others surely had things they needed to accomplish as well. Like Luffy! He still needed to go become the Pirate King as he said he would!

"Eh? No friends here?! That's terrible!"

Scar rolled his eyes. "Oh, you have no idea." he muttered. Frankly, he prefered it this way. For his own convienence, of course, not because he could bring himself to care if someone else ended up here rather than him.

"Oh, but I do!" Brook corrected immediately, leaning closer towards Scar, "Being without friends, without anyone...! That's like having your heart torn from your chest! It's absolutely unbearable!" And here Scar was in that situation! Brook just couldn't see how he was co calm!

Scar sighed in response, becoming slightly irritated by the other man's presumptions. Sarcasm obviously wasn't the way to deal with people like this. "Brook." Scar began calmly. "Are you familiar with the term sarcasm?"

A small pause. "If not, may I suggest to, I don't know, consider looking it up?"
