He was now much farther in this building than he had gone last night. He intensified his guard as he proceeded through this new hallway. For a moment, he considered closing the door in case someone -- or something -- tried to follow him, but the sight of several people standing around and talking caused him to abandon that idea; he wanted to avoid anything that would draw needless attention to his presence.
One lone person, a strange silver-haired man, was also slowly proceeding northward towards the door at the end of the hall. Though the man wasn't dressed in the hospital's clothing, his behavior didn't indicate that he was one of the brainwashed patients of whom Javert had warned von Karma, as he seemed to pay no attention to the other people. Keeping a good distance from the stranger, von Karma quietly and stealthily followed him while remaining alert to any possible dangers surrounding him in the hallway.
Eventually, the man slipped through the door, but von Karma maintained his slow and seemingly casual pace lest the other people notice him and suspect that he was stalking the man. Shortly afterwards, he reached the door himself, gingerly opening it and peering around to ensure that he was still safe.
