NIGHTSHIFT 35: M1-M10 HALLWAY

Sep 20, 2008 19:06

Mello did not have high expectations for the evening.

If the previous night had been any indication, they'd get about thirty feet before Near's obsessive observation habits ruined any hope of beating the time curve, but without the bulletin to find a new group he had no choice to repeat the effort.

Normally, he waited several minutes to set out into ( Read more... )

Upon reaching Ion's room, Anise wondered for a moment if it was really necessary for her to announce herself like she always did. After all, with this being a nightly routine, it should be easy for Ion to guess it was his Guardian at the door. But she supposed it was safer for him to know for sure before opening the door, so she went through with the rest of the routine with as much enthusiasm as always.

Knocking loudly, she announced, "It's me! Are you ready?" Ion usually needed a little extra time to prepare, but that was fine. Anise could be a very patient person, although perhaps just for some people more than others.

Anise greeted the Fon Master with a bright smile of her own, then briefly took on a contemplative look as she considered their options for the night. "Hmm. I'm not sure yet," she admitted, "but I bet we can start by reporting to the Colonel. He might want his key back, too." She wasn't sure if he would want it now that it was pretty much worthless, but it seemed like the proper thing to do. She wasn't even sure if he would be in his room, either, but if not, they could just leave the key and transcripts on his desk.

With a more casual grin, she asked, "How was the trip today?" As a whole, it definitely turned out better than Anise had hoped. A field trip that didn't end in monster ambushes was a relatively good trip no matter what happened in town, but she was still pretty curious about Ion's experience, especially since it was his first time seeing what Earth was like outside the institute.

[No problem! ♥]

It wasn't a full plan, but it was a start. At a glance, the end of the hall looked pretty deserted, considering the crowd that had been there last time they went to see the Colonel. So there really weren't any club activities tonight. No surprise there.

Looked like Ion's day had gone well too. That was good news! Even if Anise still had her doubts about that town, a little fresh air and relaxation meant a lot. "A lighter?" Like, something that made light? Wouldn't that just be the same as a flashlight? Anise wondered.

"I spent the day with Guy. I guess that's the closest thing to a date I can hope for here." Anise sighed heavily at the thought, as though that were her greatest concern at the moment. It only took a moment for her smile to return, however. "I got my nails done, too. If I can't have anything else in pink, I might as well have these!" She raised a hand to show.

"Wow! So it makes fire? Ahh, if only we had something like that here..." The image of the institute burning to the ground came to mind, but it was pretty clear that a little arson wouldn't be enough to bring about results like that. Not to mention any clues to finding a way home would most likely be somewhere in the building to begin with. A girl could dream though, couldn't she? As an afterthought, she added, "Well, I guess there are a lot of things I wish we had right now." An exit, for one ( ... )

Anybody else might have considered swiping the device and running off with it, but it came as no surprise to Anise that it apparently hadn't crossed Ion's mind. There was no use in bringing it up at this point, either: it was too late to run back and get it, and she couldn't exactly expect the Fon Master to stoop to stealing from hardware stores. She had a hard enough time visualizing it, even ( ... )

"They'll be okay." Anise might have been trying to reassure herself as much as she was Ion, but there were the rumors on the bulletin about the whereabouts of all the missing patients. If they really had been brainwashed into living these false lives... as terrible as that was, it would mean they were safe for now. "We'll see them again when we get out of here."

There was no answer at the door, so she opened it and peeked inside. Nobody home.

"Yeah, let's do that. We can drop off those notes you took for him, too," she answered, stepping into the dark room. Anise remembered which side of the room the Colonel had been seated at when she made her brief visit the previous night, so she made her way over to the corresponding desk. Pulling Tokunaga down from her back, she retrieved the key she had stuffed in its little sack. The key was then placed on the desk.

"Here should be good."
