[From here.]For once, the hallway was dead silent, not a single soul in view. The rest of the patients in this block probably hadn't started on their nightly trips. Or at least, Ken hoped that explained the quiet

Claude was glad he wasn't still struggling with the basic layout of the first floor. The patients' blocks were practically identical in set-up, which meant no unexpected surprises in the way of finding a specific room number. There were the obvious dangers to worry about, of course, but after a lot of the things he'd witnessed on Expel and Nede, that sort of thing was almost becoming old hat, really.
If he'd guessed right, then room M120 would have to be somewhere...well, down this hallway, which happened to be the first one he came across. Pretty convenient!
The hallway was relatively empty by the time Sync stepped into the new area, idly sweeping his flashlight to make sure there wasn't any kind of obstruction from his destination. He wasn't exactly surprised with the lack of people meandering about; after all, he had made his way out the moment the doors unlocked and he wouldn't have it any other way.
The God-General took a spare moment to look around the hallway a final time before pushing against the door that led to the next.
Perhaps he'd been in too much of a rush, but really, he needed to find someone uninjured and feeling generous and not currently occupied. As the night wore on, the number of prospective individuals would dwindle, either on rescue missions (tonight was torture night, wasn't it?) or gathered together in their own groups. Then again, Xelloss missed the helpful lights of other patients as he wandered through the dark hallway, shovel in one hand and useless flashlight in the other.
Yet another empty hallway. At least this was the last one he would have to worry about for a while. Guy kept his flashlight held steady as he paused for a moment, trying to pinpoint in his head which hallway he needed to go down to get to M120. It had to either be the one closest to him or the one at the other end of the block, and after he thought back to his search of the female block with Jade and did some mental math, he realized that he just needed to make an immediate right and he would be right there.
He didn't hesitate in doing so, figuring that Ion must have been waiting for him by now, especially if M120 really was the boy's room.
The gargoyle wasn't alone in the hallway, but its other occupant looked like he knew what he was doing, so Brooklyn expected he wouldn't need to offer any assistance.
He paused to lean against one wall and raised a hand to his chin in thought. Did he stay near the patient blocks or did he explore further into the Institute? This particular block wasn't all that populated, and he certainly wasn't going to catch anyone's attention just standing here without a flashlight.
People would be heading outside. Perhaps he could start there...
[ From here]A lone patient was in the hall when Near entered, leaving two possibilities for his wait: either this stranger was expecting to be joined, or he had yet to decide on his own course of action. Near would have suspected the former, simply because it seemed strange and nonsensical to him that someone would go into a place of danger before firmly deciding on an objective and a plan to carry out that objective. Regardless, the fact that he was waiting here, just outside of the halls that led to the individual rooms of this block was a strong indication that this man was a resident of this block. It simply seemed too awkwardly chosen of a meeting place to be otherwise
( ... )
The light wasn't high enough to blind him, but Brooklyn turned his head away anyway, squinting in the brightness. Then, when he turned back to face the young man who'd approached him fully, he had to blink a couple times to make sure there hadn't been any serious damage done to his eyes.
Apparently, not everyone had been as lucky as he had when it came to their clothing for the field trip. If he'd been in this boy's shoes, he would have changed back into his uniform first rather than wear such garish overalls. To each their own.
The question made the gargoyle blink. "All of them?" He turned to glance down the hall as though he could actually see which rooms were occupied from his current position. "I don't know... I'd guess not, since this is the last men's block, but I don't know for sure."
Near would have changed out of his overalls if he had remembered to. But the task of reminding him fell on people who were not there, and as such, Near remained in the garish outfit. Truthfully, he had forgotten about it entirely until the stranger stared at him in such a manner. Regardless, the matter of Near's outfit was minor and unimportant.
"That's a logical conclusion." The words weren't praise, however. They were truth, because Near had already come to that conclusion himself, and frustration for the same reason. There was still a chance that Brooklyn could be helpful, however, depending on what he had observed, and how long he had been standing there.
"Then tell me. Which of the halls have people left from, and which have people gone into?" Near had no desire to walk into an occupied room, after all. Hopefully he could use the information this man provided to prevent that from happening.

Without wasting another moment, he turned right.
