Day 35: Bus 2 (Return Trip)

Sep 16, 2008 09:36

Sai leaned his head woozily against the cool glass of the bus window. Helping out his fellow ninja had been a failed effort thus far, and he didn't have any idea how Naruto had been able to put up with that friend of his for so long. If he was asked to lead Sasuke around in the future, unless they came to terms with their differences before then ( Read more... )

Being out and about all day almost felt like home, though she couldn't remember ever helping someone shoplift or wearing any clothes that were quite so tight. The day had been nice, if a little chilly and she was kind of eager to get back on the bus so she could warm up some. The small jacket that went over her baby-doll shirt didn't do much to keep away the cold since it was cut off just under her bustline. The shirt wasn't any better, not quite meeting her jeans and leaving her tummy feeling chill and breezy most of the day. Kyo wore his shirts like that a lot too, but that was different, Kyo was a boy! Did girls really wear these in America? She probably looked really boyish. Why couldn't they have just given her a skirt? Or a dress?

She sighed and climbed on board, hoping she'd been useful in spite of how little she'd managed to do. There wasn't anyone she knew, except Bridget, though he was welcome enough company. He seemed kind of down though, face buried into Roger's fur.

"Bridget-kun?" she said quietly, not wanting to disturb him if he didn't want company. She let her hand rest lightly on his shoulder, in case he hadn't heard her.

[hope it's ok?]

(ALways okay!)

Bridget looked up, face instantly lighting up when Miss Sohma came into view. Beaming, he shifted over and gestured to the seat beside him.

"Miss Sohma! Please! Sit." Settling Roger firmly in his lap, Bridget managed to pull his zippered sweater off and waited for the young woman to sit (or decline) before he offered it to her. He didn't really need it.

She startled when Bridget popped up, but was glad to see that he was smiling. She took the seat beside him, smiling back at him. She was kind of surprised when he offered her his jacket though. How did he know she was cold?

Was he just trying to be nice? She hadn't meant to be obvious about it, but maybe it was her fault. Maybe he didn't like the way the shirt looked on her and he was trying to be nice to make her cover it up or maybe it made him uncomfortable or...

"O-oh, um..." she managed, "Thank you. But um... are... are you sure you don't need your jacket? It's chilly out. I already have one, it's just a little small." She gave a short laugh, folding her arms around her waist and trying to pull the shirt down.

"Oh, no." He laughed and shook his head. "I'm used to wearing a lot less than this, so the cold doesn't bother me much. But I noticed that a lot of other people were chilly, so I thought maybe you were too."

He tilted his head and frowned slightly. "If you're not cold though, that's okay. I wanted to make sure you were comfortable though."

"O-oh," Kagura managed, feeling kind of silly for over worrying about things. "I thought- ah... n-no, it's very nice of you. I don't... usually dress like this, so I guess I'm just not used to it."

She took the jacket and wrapped it over her shoulders, sending him a thankful smile. "It's more something Kyo-kun would wear I think. He wouldn't like wearing a shirt with a heart on it, but he wears some kind of like this. It's kind of boyish, but they said these were girl's clothes." She said it all with some embarrassment, glad to finally warm up a little.

Bridget thought about that. They looked rather like the clothing that he had been made to wear back home at times. He thought it was kind of cute actually, though he felt that Kagura looked much better in it than he had.

"If it means anything at all from me, I think you look nice," he offered with a smile. "But I think you could make anything you wore look nice on you."

"Y-you really think so? You're too nice," Kagura said shyly, "no one ever says things like that back home. Not even when I put on my nicest dress!" She always tried to look her best for Kyo, but he hadn't noticed. Not once. At least Bridget's kind words made things here a little more bearable.

"You and Roger look cute too. Very handsome," she assured, patting the bear on the head lightly. She didn't really understand the logo on the shirt, but it looked comfortable. "It's too bad we have to go back so soon, it would have been nice to go visit more of the shops, don't you think?"

Bridget waved Roger's paw in Kagura's direction. "Roger says 'thank you'," he said wit a smile. "And he says that ... that if they don't notice you, then they're silly."

"I like these trips," he went on. "It's nice to be able to go out, pretend for a little bit that ... things are at least a little normal."

It was a kind of painful feeling, like someone was squeezing her heart. She knew she'd never hear those kinds of things from Kyo, but she'd never even gotten the chance to tell him how she felt. Not for real. Part of her knew there was no chance, but part of her still couldn't let go of him. "Kyo-kun is silly," she agreed. "He's dense as a rock sometimes, but I don't hold it against him." She shrugged half-heartedly.

"Mm, today was nice," she agreed. "Made me a little bit homesick," she added wistfully.

"Well," Bridget began, wondering about this Kyo person, "then he needs a lesson in manners, at the least."

Accepting people one cared about, no matter what, and telling them how much you cared were important. He'd seen that plenty of times back home, and it was doubly important whenever you or someone you loved workedaround/with/or against Gears. They might not be seen again.

"It's a bit different than the towns I'm used to," he admitted. "But it's close."

"He really does," she gave a short laugh. "He's gotten better since..." she started, but didn't finish. "But Kyo-kun is Kyo-kun. You just have to take the good with the bad. He has his moments." Like last Valentine's Day he'd actually eaten the chocolate she made for him instead of throwing it away like countless years past. Though it would have been nice to get something back on White Day. Just once.

"What are the towns like where you're from Bridget-kun?" she asked curiously.
