Day 35: Bus 1

Sep 16, 2008 10:03

Nny was beginning to suspect that he wasn't dreaming. Interestingly enough, it wasn't the length of his stay that was starting to convince him. It was his goddamn headache. You didn't get headaches in dreams, you just didn't. Not unless you'd been drinking the night before, which he hadn't experienced in, well, a really long time (and that was it's ( Read more... )

Haku sighed and settled into a seat close to the front of the bus. What a total waste of a day. Skuld had been nice, and he'd done his best to be friendly and polite, but she just hadn't seemed to warm up to him at all.

Odd.

Closing his eyes, he leaned against the window, watching the others start the exodus to the buses in an absent way.

Zabuza came into the bus and stopped when he saw Haku sitting in one of the front seats. He didn't care so much about this place and it's rules about the two of them. If they let him on this bus before he would stay here. He didn't sit next to Haku though, as that was simply asking for trouble, instead he just looked at the boy as if accessing any damage that might have happened to him while Zabuza had apparently disappeared.

He gripped the the back of the seat that was in front of Haku and said nothing to the boy. He just wanted to make sure that Haku knew he was back. After that, he planned on moving away from him to take a seat towards the back.

They would be able to talk more once night hit.

Haku looked up when someone stopped and touched the seat in front of him...

And promptly forgot how to breathe. All the color drained from his already pale face and he stared at Zabuza-san as if he were a ghost. He almost appeared as though he would cry, but managed to keep from showing too much emotion before his Master.

He was back. But... would he be like Naruto-kun? Without memories of this place? Why had he gone? What had happened?

"Za...Zabuza-san," he managed, voice low and reverent, though he managed to maintain enough presense of mind not to reach out and touch. The staff where always watching and he would see him tonight.

Zabuza had a moment, just a moment, were real regret showed across his face, but he quickly hid it.

"So it's true," he said. "I have been gone..." He seemed unsettled at this idea, especially since he didn't remember. But there was no time to talk about it right now. "We'll talk when we can," he promised.

He reached out as he walked by and lightly rested his hand on Haku's head before pulling it away quickly and heading to the back of the bus.

Somehow, Roy had lost track of time while talking with Junior and Luffy, and before he knew it the nurses were rushing around trying to gather up all the patients. He wasn't sure what had happened, but he made his way onto the bus feeling slightly indignant.

As much as he might tell himself that there was probably nothing of interest to be found in the town, he knew that when it came down to it, every bit of information was important, and he had missed out. He couldn't relent or give up on searching for answers, even if he had found so little thus far.

Finding a seat toward the back of the bus, Roy was glad he was one of the first people to make it on. Meanwhile, he did his best to mentally prepare for the possibility of night coming too soon and forcing them into a trap like last time. He wasn't sure if Landel would try the same trick twice, but he would be as ready as he could be nonetheless.

[Mind a General?]

Celes had finished her day strolling the streets and tumbling the young man's words in her mind. Meet them? Well, it was not as though she had something better to do. Her herding nurse hurried her along to the first bus and Celes noted the variety of open seats. She smiled somewhat grimly before sliding into place next to a sour-looking man, and planned her escape for when night landed and everything changed.

She wished she still carried the knife she'd gotten from Luxord, but it was too much of a risk of having it be confiscated. Ah well, if wishes were chocobos, beggars would ride. "Evening," she said quietly, with a polite nod of her head.

Roy had to admit he was surprised when a young woman decided to take a seat next to him despite the fact that there were so many other open ones. There was a chance that she was trying to avoid someone or at least make sure they didn't sit with her, so he figured he might as well take some satisfaction out of the fact that he didn't come off as a bad bus partner.

And when would he ever deny sitting with such a pretty girl? A smile that wasn't completely sincere touched at his lips as he fell into that half-act that he tended to take on around women he didn't already know.

"Good evening," he said in return, nodding his head to her. "How was your day?" Even if he hadn't been able to look around himself, maybe he could at least get information from someone else. He knew that implication that he was using someone wasn't exactly pretty, but he figured there was no harm done so long as he was as nice and charming as he always was with the opposite sex.

"Fine, thank you," Celes replied, externally polite and internally wary. Another Edgar, it seemed. Well, that could be handled neatly enough. Celes straightened her bearing without thinking, falling into the ingrained training she'd had all her life. A moment later, she realized how very rude it was for her to sit next to a total stranger who may have already had plans to share his seat with another. Well, damn it all.

"Pardon me for sitting beside you, sir," she added. "I don't mean to interrupt a plan you may already have." Celes apologized neatly, with a little note of sincerity. Men liked sincerity in speech, didn't they?

Scar plopped on one of the seats right after climbing the bus (though still making sure he was somewhere in the middle due to obvious reasons). A sigh escaped his lips as he rubbed his forehead with his hand.

Though he hadn't visited all that many places, nor did he find anything useful, what had occurred didn't please him. To discover he no longer was a lion was one thing, but to discover he had lost any connection with his feline self had been another; he could no longer understand animals. It made the 'change' all the more apparent. A frustrating experience.

Why did this place insist on rubbing things in all the time?

After scanning the seats, Archer slowly sat down where there was room, not really paying attention to anyone else. He was fairly satisfied with what he'd accomplished but didn't allow it to show on his face. After all, he was a heroic spirit; he had much more control than a juvenile teenager.

His plans for tonight seemed to be in place, and he'd made a new friend, who looked to be chatting with Colonel Mustang. A certain excitement and anxiousness nestled in his stomach, but he pushed it down, presenting himself in a calm manner. He was certain that whatever the sword and shield led to that it was a significant portion of the puzzle. Then he'd be that much closer to taking down Landel.

Scar spared the person sitting down next to him a glance. Normally, he would have attempted conversation, but right now he wasn't quite in the mood for any pleasantries.

Maybe it was because he had so much on his plate right now, maybe it was because he was back in those blasted vehicles again, or maybe the anxiety for what would most likely come tonight. But if conversation would occur, he couldn't be certain if he would be able to keep his polite facade.

He leaned his head against the glass, and he couldn't help but to feel tired. The lack of sleep must be catching up with him, he supposed.

After a few moments of silence, Archer took a glance at the person next to him. While he didn't have psychic senses, as a former spiritual creature he was sensitive to people's moods, and years of observational skills helped. From what he could tell the stranger wasn't in a particularly conversational mood, and Archer had no desire to get into a fight right now, especially with his plans going so smoothly. Granted, there were still a few holes, but for once, he hoped they worked out. At the moment, it was really all he could do.

If conversation was to begin between the two, it certainly wouldn't be initiated by Archer.

[For Michiru]

At Wally's suggestion, Seiya had looked over the restaurant more closely. After all, if it were full of beautiful women, she could at least enjoy the view for a moment if her own date was encouraging it, right? And that was when her eyes had passed over a familiar wave of blue hair, like the sea, and her blood went cold ( ... )

Michiru couldn't express the gratitude she felt when the nurses decided to round them up. Talking a long walk in the cool autumn air sounded nicer, but anything was better than continuing her 'date' with a man she'd come to despise.

Allowing herself to be led back to the buses, Michiru took a deep breath and cast her gaze over the forming crowd. It would be a good idea to meet with Ami and discuss what they'd found before they got back to the institution. There was no telling if they'd be separated again once they got back. However, it wasn't Ami's form that caught her eye first.

No... Michiru stared after the figure that was now boarding one of the buses, having caught sight of a very familiar ponytail. Those three couldn't be here. If they were, then who was protecting Usagi ( ... )

Seiya's eyes had been closed when the blue-haired figure had approached the bus, but as Michiru sat down, Seiya turned, looking at the other soldier with a grim but smoothed expression. This was what running away resulted in, in the long run--just finding a new place to be cornered in. If nothing else, Seiya had learned a lot about running away ( ... )

Another woman had information on Usagi? No, that must have been the 'Alita' that Ami had run after this morning. No wonder she'd been so depressed afterwards.

"I spoke to Ami this morning after she contacted a woman by the name of Alita. The Usagi that went missing two days ago is still missing." Curt, straight-forward answers were the best, Michiru had decided. It left little to be discussed, which made the whole situation in general less painful if only by shortening the time she had to talk about it. She didn't like admitting that she didn't know where her princess was. Especially not to Seiya.

"However, I wasn't asking about that Usagi." Michiru frowned very slightly, trying to keep her concern tightly contained. She had to be careful. If this Seiya wasn't from her time or her world, then she couldn't admit to anything. But if so, then Michiru feared that her princess was in an even worse situation than she and Haruka had left her in...

"When were you taken from?"

While he hadn't accomplished much during the day, he had enjoyed himself, taking time to do one of his favorite hobbies; long walks and people watching. Though to some it probably wasn't the most entertaining pastime or very productive, he'd had a good enough time and gained information here and there just by watching what others did.

He sat lazily in his seat, leaning back against the wall of the bus as much as the seat as he looked outside.

Rangiku was a little grumpy when the nurses came to get them, the day having seemed far too short without all that much fill it. It had just been nice to spent time in a place which wasn't walled in, even if the signs of the Institute had been everywhere, with the nurses guarding the perimeter.

She went back onto the bus and quickly spotted Gin. She smiled and went to flop down on the seat next to him, leaning against his side comfortably.

"Welcome back Ran-chan," he said playfully as she sat beside him. She could be clingy at times, but after all of his disappearances, he couldn't very well blame that sort of behavior on her.

Gin twirled a lock of hair around his finger, not moving much from his original position, save to let his arm fall around her shoulder. "Have fun today?"

Rangiku smiled warmly at him, resting her head against his shoulder when he wrapped his arm around her. Maybe it was clingy, but she knew from experience that she needed to enjoy the time that she had with him because in the end, something always made him leave.

"Mmmm, didn't do much," she admitted with a shrug. "Napped."
