As they started up the stairs, he knew it was safer to take less of a chance with anything possibly lurking at the top of the stairs or in the hallways beyond. It'd never been difficult for him to split his attention between the place where his physical form was and the place where he was projecting his second sight, it was just more of a pain now, when he couldn't very stop what he was doing to focus on one at a time.
He kept his flashlight trained on the stairs ahead of them at the same time he took a breath and opened his eye.
The servant wasn't going to get used to how hard it was any time soon. Or how quickly and easily just using it could sap his energy. He had to keep it limited to glances and flickers, and in the dark, that put his powers of perception to the test. When he opened it on the wall at the top of their stairwell, he was met with mostly silence (rare) and darkness (not so rare), but didn't miss the darting lights off to his left, in the periphery of his vision. Where the balcony was, huh? He moved the big eye to the glass panels overhead, staring down at the people below.
Seven... eight... More than half a dozen people down there, more than enough to see by when each had a flashlight in hand. One person, however, was emitting light that was decidedly less benign in nature. One, it was purple and he was using it to attack. Two, he was using it to push back two other prisoners, by the looks of it.
And from the sounds of it, that was definitely a fight going on. The kind he and Maki had only just talked about.
