hereLeon was still debating his options when he reached the second floor. Again, it was more or less empty. He shined his flashlight down the hall, trying to see if there was anyone (or anything) else around. The weak beam couldn't penetrate the dark shadows. If someone was lying in wait, they were pretty well hidden

Getting to the second level kitchen meant taking a route he and Yukari traveled through a couple of nights prior. That did not mean Ken was at all familiar with the area; in fact, his knowledge of the institute was very limited. If memory served him correctly, the boy had only been on the second floor twice since his arrival.
Thank goodness, then, for the map and his fairly excellent memory.
Ken crept cautiously away from the stairs. Right. Then left at the first corner. Then the door at the end of the hallway. Sounded pretty simple, he decided, but it was probably best to keep the pace slow and his person to the wall. It would be easier to fend off a potential attack as spears had a pesky reaction time in close quarters ( ... )

Leon jumped in surprise as someone almost ran into him. He swung his flashlight up, aiming the beam at the person's face. He blinked in shock at the sight of a young boy, probably no older than 13, holding a spear and looking quite startled.
"It's okay," he said, lowering the beam. "Are you out here alone?" Much as Leon wanted to move quickly tonight, he couldn't in good conscience let a kid this young wander around by himself. Even if said kid was better armed than he was.

"Yeah, pretty much," Ken replied, after taking a second to compose himself. He shouldered his weapon, keeping it well out of the other patient's way. "I have some business here, and my friend--" Would have boxed his ears until they fell out. "--had other plans." Normally, the explanation would have been omitted, but he was getting the vibe the man didn't approve of his presence.

After finding no trace of Utena for days, she was convinced further that she would have to divine the secrets of escaping this world on her own. She had done it once, so how much harder could it be?
The first thing she had to look into was that chapel. She hadn't gathered very much solid evidence on how it worked, but perhaps seeing it personally would make things clear.
She made it to the second floor with little trouble at all, having been that way once before, and stepped down the hallway, feeling more assured of what she sought.

Other people around wasn't exactly reassuring, but it was better than absolute solitude, too. She paused, checking her bearings. It wasn't too hard--the hallway straight ahead. The fewer people around meant less competition but also less potential targets. And being the first to face one of the more powerful monsters wasn't exactly desirable either.
It was just a trade-off they had to accept. She glanced to Leon yet again, expecting him to have kept up, before looking forward towards the next hallway.

The presence of other patients gave Leon pretty much the same two conflicting thoughts as it did Seiya--they were potential competition, yes, but they were also potential distractions for any monsters that lay in wait ahead. But they weren't all that close to their target yet, so it would probably be best to move straight on and see if others had gotten even farther ahead. "Keep going?"

The hall showed signs of others' passage, but a careful scan showed no sign of violence. Safe still, for at least a little longer. "Straight down that hall," Lia murmured, panning her flashlight toward the corridor just in front of them. "At the very end. It's off the patio. That part is rather...open."

More people had passed this way since they'd left the hall for the one leading through the kitchens. Lia paused to take stock, searching idly over those few lingering or passing through still. There were none she recognized, and more importantly, none who appeared to be in the middle of combat with either monsters or other patients. "Quiet night," she whispered back to Melissa, though she sounded unconvinced. She could not help but wonder what had gone on elsewhere.

Miku didn't see anyone, had they all gone ahead of her? The dull, yellowed light that shined from her flashlight wasn't helping settle her mood. So, they were here. Now it was time to hurry to Patients Possessions, quick as bunnies.
"Ready?" Miku held her hand out for him to take. It shook only slightly.

"I'm ready," Sousuke took her hand and offered her a rare, but encouraging smile. "Don't worry, we'll make it."
And with that, he took off with her at a brisk pace.
