Day 34: Breakfast

Jul 30, 2008 09:03

[starting off in M13]The last part of the night was little more than a blur in Homura's mind. The men had rushed in, but not joined them, instead staying off to themselves. Before any of them had a chance to react, however, a voice sounded through the air, mocking some other person Homura had never heard of, and the patients themselves ( Read more... )

[for the SDS]

Another fruitless night. At least Frey hadn't used up any energy on healing semi-willing and entirely ungrateful strangers, this time. Even thinking of that incident, though, reminded Frey of the gruesome jars in that doctor's desk... he shuddered again, then shook the feeling off. He needed to eat, and thinking about bodiless eyes floating suspended in liquid wasn't going to improve his appetite.

Not wanting to be caught laying about in bed, Frey got up quickly and set his hair and clothes to rights before the nurse arrived to take him to the cafeteria.

Breakfast, thankfully, smelled quite good, and Frey found his lagging appetite returning quite promptly. He took a healthy serving of the pancakes and syrup, then found himself a seat in the mostly empty cafeteria. Not a lot of early risers, today.

The Star Dragon Sword growled dangerously when he realised that he was back within the walls of the institute. How in blazes did that happen? He’d been with Kagura moments ago investigating that ruined town, and now found himself being dragged down to the cafeteria for breakfast.

He didn’t go quietly, and every time his nurse attempted to make light conversation, the Night Rune snapped back a vile comment to ward the blasted woman off. Snapping a biting comment at the nurse as she handed him his breakfast, the Star Dragon Sword huffed at her for good measure before outright ignoring the irritating woman. Damn insufferable human. If he had his powers then he would show this stupid bag of flesh that she was nothing but his servantHuffing irritably to himself, the Sword stormed away from his stupid nurse and made his way directly to where he saw Frey sitting. Tossing his tray down on the tabletop unceremoniously, the Night Rune sat himself down in front of the young Dawn Rune bearer as he unhappily huffed. “I do hope your night was more ( ... )

Well, finding the Star Dragon Sword had been something Frey had planned on doing today, so in that sense it was a good thing to encounter him this early. On the other hand, the Rune incarnate seemed to be in an even worse mood than usual, which wasn't the best thing to start off Frey's day.

Repressing a tired sigh, Frey shook his head sadly. "No, I'm afraid my night was uneventful and unproductive." Again. As it always seemed to be, in this place.

He regarded Frey quietly in thought as the Dawn Rune bearer sighed and gave his answer. Each night was proving to be just as unproductive as the last, and he was beginning to wonder if the only way out of this infernal pile of rocks was to end ones life.

An option the Star Dragon Sword flatly refused to do.

"I see," He murmured before looking down at his tray of food with disgust. "I managed to make it over the wall last night. Yet I still found myself back in bed regardless of how far I traveled."

That was really depressing news. It seemed the disembodied voice of the Doctor hadn't been lying about that much--escape was no more within their reach now than it had been two nights ago, or three. "That's... unfortunate." Frey tried to be diplomatic and not show the depth of his disappointment. Depression served no purpose. He had to remain strong, or this place would truly drive him mad.

Despite Frey's attempt, the Star Dragon Sword could sense the disappointment in the Dawn Rune Bearer. There was little he could do about that fact, and he wasn't going to coddle the little human.

"I will be heading back over the walls tonight." He stated and watched Frey thoughtfully with his amber gaze.

"I will accompany you." Frey spoke firmly, but still somewhat gently. He couldn't afford to just let other people lead him around, in this place, but it was difficult to start asserting himself without anyone to back him up. Still, the Sword had already demonstrated that he was not opposed to his company--he kept seeking Frey out, after all--so this was a small, relatively easy way to start making his desires known, Frey thought.

The Star Dragon Sword regarded Frey thoughtfully as those firm words were spoken. This was, perhaps, the first time that he had witness any form of resolve within the Dawn Rune bearer.

"Very well," The Night Rune said after his moment of silence. Nodding his head, he glanced down at the revolting pile of food on his plate as he frowned. "I am accompanying a human female outside of the walls. Your assistance would be appreciated, Frey."

A woman? Frey hoped that the Sword was a little more patient with her than he was with everyone else, but at the same time he rather doubted it. Hopefully the woman was strong-willed like Sialeeds or Lucretia, and not sweet and gentle like Luserina. Well, she was putting up with the Night Rune well enough to accompany him, so that was probably a good sign.

Asserting himself had gone reasonably well, too. Frey held back his sigh of relief, only smiling slightly and inclining his head. "Are there any particular dangers I should know about, outside the walls?"
