Nightshift 33: Kitchen

[from here]

The first and only time he’d come to the kitchen, it’d been his first night, and it had started with chocolate cake, too. And ended with fighting off lizards, meeting Sasuke, and being inflicted with Alucard. There weren’t any good memories of this place (if that could seriously be said of any part of the building ( Read more... )

[HAHAHA, I FINALLY MADE IT. From here.]

The kitchen was even worse, if that was even possible. It was completely dead, like the silence that came just before a demon attack or the news that Watari had spiked the coffee maker that morning and, guess what, he had just drank the last cup. Either way, Hisoka couldn't help but move around the room as if something lurked in every shadow, body tense as he eyed the darkness.

After the chaos from earlier, the xenomorph had settled in a corner, curled up on itself. To someone passing by, it looked like nothing more than a pile of junk, or machinery.

It didn't have to wait too long. Soon, there was the sounds of footsteps on the ground, heat drifting through the exoskeleton. A claw, curled against its chest, twitched.

Something told him today wasn't going to be his lucky day. Not with this room anyway, especially considering the last room was empty when the two rooms before that had something with claws and sharp teeth. Those rooms couldn't have been anything special and yet they still had monsters, why should this room be any different?

The boy grit his teeth, suddenly wishing Tsuzuki was here to watch his back or chatter the silence away like an idiot ('You're giving away our position, moron!'). The dark and the anticipation was going to break him in two. Hisoka shook his head and swept the beam of his light around the room in a wide arc.

The beam of light passed over the room, even right over the huddled up alien. All that greeted the patient was an unnatural silence.

As soon as the light shifted away from it, the xenomorph shifted, rising, and keeping low to the ground, began to crawl, vanishing behind the island.

Nothing. Making himself into a sitting duck wasn't going to help matters either, the light probably wasn't helping much but there was no way he was going to go without that. The boy huffed a quiet breath, turning his attention to the room itself rather than possible occupants.

There was another door on the side, maybe it led outside? Or to a refrigerator?

It didn't take long for the alien to clear the island, and to come around the corner. Drool slid from its jaws, and collected in a puddle underneath it, as the creature stared at the patient standing oblivious nearby.

He was facing away from it. The light was away from it, which was just as well: its glistening, black exoskeleton was throwing off little reflections from it.

It rose back on its hind legs, and began to close the distance between it and the boy.

There was an itch, just between the boy's shoulder blades. One that Hisoka doubted had anything to do with an actual itch, but more to do with the feeling of being watched. One that he tended to get a lot, but in the dark it was a whole different ballgame--it wasn't something he could ignore like he did during the day, when there was no doubt he was safe.

Hisoka tensed, tightening his grip on his sword as he whirled in place, his light landing on--

Well, shit.

The xenomorph paused for the slightest second.

It towered over Hisoka, all spines and ridges, organic mixed with mechanical. A long, cylindrical head with no eyes and a mouthful of sharp fangs, saliva dripping from them. Behind it, a long, spined tail swayed, tipped with a large, spade-shaped blade.

A claw jerked, and the alien suddenly lunged at its prey.

What the hell was it?!

Reacting instinctively to the attack, Hisoka threw himself to the side in hopes to avoid the monster's claw. He had never seen anything like this thing before, why had no one bothered to warn him about this along with all the other pep talks that were going on?! The boy spat a curse as he readied himself for the next possible attack, he was going to have to stay on the defensive until he could figure out how to kill this thing.

The xenomorph's claws missed.

It skidded a little on the floor, claws digging into get a better purchase. For a moment, it fell to all fours, tail beginning to lazily whip about behind it. The alien's mouth opened, "tongue" going out slowly to snap towards where Hisoka was standing, before dissapppearing back into its jaws, just one hint of a possible future for this one.

Its head drew back, shoulders tensing, before it shot forward, letting loose a spray of the weaker spit at Hisoka.

Somehow, Hisoka knew he should have seen something like this coming. He could never just find monsters that stuck to a certain range of attacks, no. He had to find the ones that liked surprising their targets with stupid attacks like spit. The boy shouted, throwing up the hand holding his flashlight in attempt to shield his face from whatever projectile the creature had shot towards him.

With little success as he felt the spit land on the unprotected portion of his face. Another shout. His eye--!!

The alien drew forward, pushing the attack now that it had its prey half-blinded. The creature pushed its upperbody flush against the ground as it did so, tail flashing over it.

The blade came hurtling, right for Hisoka.

Somewhat frantic in his half-blinded state, Hisoka was completely unprepared for the next attack and could only let out a pained cry as the creature's tail impaled itself in the boy's shoulder. This is it. He hit the floor with a painful sounding thud, both sword and flashlight sliding across the floor upon impact.

The air was thick with the scent of blood. Its heat washing against the alien's exoskeleton. It could already taste it in the air, see it splattered against the ground and on its tail. There was no name for pleasure, like hunger, there was no real concept for it either.

Only the unnamed sense that it was time to finally feed

The xenomorph padded closer, keeping its tail impaled within Hisoka. The blade twisted, as it shifted with the alien's movement.

Soon it stood over the patient, hissing, splatters of saliva hitting the human's cheek as the alien leaned over him.

It was useless to struggle, he knew. He had little chance of getting free and even if he did, the chances of getting away when he could barely see were... Well, not good. Hisoka grit his teeth, letting out a strangled sound as the blade twisted further into his shoulder.

He wasn't healing. He wasn't healing.

This really was it, which was funny in a way. A hysterical kind of way. He managed to survive everything thrown his way so far only to die in an asylum. Hisoka stared with what was left of his vision up at the creature and logic fled as he gripped the blade in his shoulder with both hands, attempting to pull it free.

"No!!"

His frantic struggles to get free only made the wound worse, only made the blade cut into his palms.

The eyeless face drew close, jaws opening with a horrible sound. There was a glimmer of the jaws hidden inside, for a second, those teeth looked like crystal in the beam of the flashlight.

The "tongue" suddenly flashed out, right for Hisoka's forehead.
