Nightshift 33: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

[from here]Upon entering this hallway, he did slow his movements a little just to be more careful. He did know the way, but this was not a hallway he was used to traversing and that was reason enough to be more careful. The trip through it was quick enough though as he slipped into what was the only female block he was aware of. F3 wasn't far now ( Read more... )

Although the hall was relatively empty, Fleur was relieved to see a few people lingering. Though this was only her second night, she had already learned that it was usually safe when there were others around. It had only been once she found herself alone that something attacked.

Still, the relief did little to ease the general uneasiness. The building was quite large, if what she had seen during the day was any indication, and she had no idea of where they would be keeping her things. Nor did she know where the entrance was, but finding that could wait until after she had located her wand and other belongings.

After a moment’s hesitation, the witch moved forward, keeping the light low. There was only one other person in the hall who didn't seem to be occupied with someone else, so perhaps he would be willing to offer some assistance.

"Excusez moi," Fleur called as she approached. "Per'aps you can tell me something. No one 'as been able to tell me anything useful about zis place so I am wondering, would you know where zey are keeping our things?"

Mason whirled around at the sound of a voice - especially a female voice - and found himself staring open-mouthed. This was by far the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. She had some quality about her that he couldn't pin down, but it made him forget all about Arlene and Esmeralda and almost even Daisy.

"Um, things, yeah," he choked out, trying to make his brain work. This was the second time a gorgeous bird had asked him a question and he hadn't known the answer! "Things..." he stammered again, trying to remember. He must've seen something about it on one of the maps that he'd never bothered to copy down, or heard someone talking about it... "Upstairs?" he said finally. Yeah, that made sense. It wasn't on the ground floor. "Yeah, upstairs... that way." He waved vaguely towards where the Sun Room was. Wasn't the storage room somewhere like over the doctor's offices? That sounded right.

While some might've thought the reaction a bit odd, the same couldn't be said about Fleur. It was almost expected, given her heritage, and she had gotten quite used to it long ago. So, she merely waited until he had pieced together a decent response.

"Upstairs?" Fleur repeated, turning to look in the direction he indicated momentarily. Come to think of it, hadn't she passed a set of stairs while being led to the cafeteria earlier that day? And, while it was a little frustrating, it did make sense that they would keep their belongings in another area. "Are you certain zat is ze correct place? I would not like to follow your directions, only to find zey were wrong."

It took a moment for Mason's brain to work through the girl's accent. "Are you French? I like France. France is nice," he babbled. Oh right, she was still asking questions.

"Um. I dunno. I think so." He pulled his rather crumpled map out of his pants and tried to smooth some of the wrinkles.

She was so gorgeous, it was definitely hindering his ability to think. And he couldn't come up with a single pick-up line! Well, just the ones he'd gotten repeatedly slapped for.

"You sure you want to go wandering around a place like this at night?" he asked, rather awkwardly. Girls didn't usually make him so awkward, but this one did for some reason. "Wouldn't you rather spend some quality time with me? 'Cause... 'cause I'm no Fred Flinstone but I can make your Bedrock!"

Oh hell. He wasn't very verbally nimble tonight, was he? He was gonna get slapped.

Fleur nodded in response to his first question, smiling at the mention of her homeland. Although it wasn't long before the smile began to fade once more. Did he or did he not know where they were keeping everyone’s personal belongings? It didn't seem such a difficult question to answer but--

Hmm? What was that paper? The witch moved a step closer, curious about the paper he had produced, but she was still aware that he had continued to speak.

Considering the nature of the comment, it was likely for the best that Fleur had never heard of 'Fred Flintstone' before, hence her not fully understanding what he meant. It was likely for the best that she didn't have her wand or other things as well, since she could've easily thought of a few spells to use had she realized what the man was insinuating.

"Yes, well, I do not know 'oo ziz... Fleentstone man is, but I would like to know eef you are going to 'elp me or not," she said with a slight frown. "I 'ave already been 'ere for one night and I do not want to stay another. So you see, eet's very important zat I find my belongings tonight."

"Um. Sure," Mason said awkwardly. Apparently, like Esmeralda, she didn't know what he was talking about.

"It's not on this map, so it's gotta be upstairs. I think it's on the other side of the building." He put on a really posh accent. "I shall escort you and look after your wellbeing."

He grinned at her and made a little bow, gesturing down the hallway towards the stairs. "Ladies first."

Map? How exactly did one gain a map of this place? And, providing that's what the paper was, how reliable was a map that didn't detail the entire building? Fleur was becoming more than a little skeptical in regards to the directions but, in the end, they were the only ones she had at the moment.

"Vairy well." Tossing her hair back over a shoulder, Fleur focused the light on the path ahead and began walking. "Follow me."
