Nightshift 33: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

Jul 09, 2008 09:50

[from here]Upon entering this hallway, he did slow his movements a little just to be more careful. He did know the way, but this was not a hallway he was used to traversing and that was reason enough to be more careful. The trip through it was quick enough though as he slipped into what was the only female block he was aware of. F3 wasn't far now ( Read more... )

Armand sagged against the wall where he usually waited. He only watched the people to see if he noticed any familiar forms moving past. No one so far.

[from fekkin' nowhere]

TK walked up to his friend, making sure he was noticed before getting too close. "Interesting things seem to be going on tonight. Feel like taking advantage of them?" He was... excited. Something had actually happened that was outside of the routine of this prison. "With their sheild down, guards and other defences might be compromised for a while as well." Any major, unexpected event like this always had the potential to send the natural order of things into chaos. That was the whole point of a surprise attack. TK had no problems with the idea of capitalizing on someone else's success.

"I'm all for it. I'm afraid I may have set a young friend to test those very defenses before we heard..." Armand stood up straighter. He hadn't had long to catch his breath, but his friend's excitement was catching.

"What did we hear exactly? I thought that other man was dead." He glanced nervously from side to side as if he expected to be jumped by a ghost.

He'd almost forgotten how many aspects of basic technology were unfamiliar to Armand. "That was a recording. Like... Instead of writing down what someone said, it's a copy of the sound itself, made using an electronic device." He wanted to go on from there, but he stopped himself. Best not to completely overload Armand with information.

Armand considered it. Well, he knew about writing. He'd heard about pictures. If sounds could move through wires or the very air, they could probably also be preserved. "Oh, I see, so the other man, Dr. Doyle, is still dead?" He shivered. Though he'd heard the name Alec Doyle, he had not known the man was a doctor like Landel.

"That was him wasn't it, the radio man? I never listened to the radio..." He shifted, still a little uncomfortable, but anxious for so many reasons.

"Still dead. Very much so, from what Landel said." The head doctor had been sounding more than a little out of control. He certainly wasn't officer material, if he couldn't deal with something unexpected. He was just a civvie who thought he was good at keeping control. "Yes. I never listened closely either, but I overheard enough." He hadn't been fond of the idea of carrying around something that could suddenly give away his position at any time.

"What do you think about these defenses we heard about?" Armand didn't like the idea of wall-climbing, not in the least, but he'd have a chance of finding Bridget that way. "Do you think Dr. Uzuki will give up the basement for tonight for this?" He was so worried.

"If their sheild is anything like technology that I'm used to, it will take them a while to get it back up, especially if their control over it has been hit hard. I'm not sure if these people have developed advanced sheilding techniques, but if the technology was a prototype when they installed it, then it would be probably more prone to complete failiure until it can be repaired." He hoped that would be the case, anyway. Prototype tech could be terrifyingly sensitive.

"Possibly. We'll just have to see." He really wanted to try going outside the walls, but he'd wait until the last of their group showed up.

"It is like an invisible wall, yes? Bridget told me about trying to climb the walls on a previous night. He said--" And now Armand closed his eyes as he tried very hard to remember the details, to recall Bridget's words. "He said that they seemed to push back as hard as one pushed them. Does that help in telling you what kind they were?"

"It's deffinitely a particle sheild of some type, but I wouldn't be able to tell you anything more unless I knew how it was created." It would be interesting to see what kind of tech they used... maybe even bring back pieces or plans to the Empire, if he ever got offplanet.

"Well, I could not tell you that." He pressed his back against the wall again. "Do you know Bridget? A young boy, blond hair, looks like a girl."

"I haven't met him. I'm not exactly a social person." He was incredibly awkward when trying to figure out how to talk to civvies like this. He was used to being one of the man in the white armor that no one ever really noticed.

"Do you ever speak to people during the day?" Armand asked. He seldom recalled noticing TK then. And the man was big and striking. "And I think you are a sensible and comforting presence, so you should talk to more people."

"I never really know how to talk to people at all. I've never been out of a strictly millitary setting before this. I'm trained for just about any combat situation, but I've got nothing for social situations." He was made to be a soldier, not a public speaker.

"You do perfectly fine with me. I shouldn't worry about it if I were you." Armand reached out and patted TK's arm. "Morrison, you're one of my best friends here. I thought last night proved that well enough."

TK shrugged. "I'm just not used to this at all. It makes it... complicated." He couldn't think of any good way to describe it.
