Day 33: Recreational Field

Jun 26, 2008 04:45

Guy let out a sigh of relief as he made his way out onto the field, glad to have some fresh air and sunshine after going so many days without it. That was one of the hardest things about being kept in this place, in his opinion. At least during their journey they had been outside more often than not ( Read more... )

Nathan was beyond trying to be polite to his nurse by now. Another night spent barely making contact with another person, and they hadn't even come close to contacting Claire again. Needless to say, he hadn't been in the mood for that bright smile and happy chirp of "Good morning, Mr. Campbell!"

Still, spending the morning brooding longer than he had already wasn't contributing to his very broad goal of getting something done. Peter had already formed a more consistent contact than he had, and with the patients split by gender these shifts, it was unlikely that he'd be able to track Claire down again.

In his wandering, Nathan's eyes fell upon another man standing alone and playing with a ball idly. Though he wasn't really capable of mustering a smile at the moment, determination was to thank for the scowl he'd born all morning fading away as he approached the other man, noting his disheveled appearance and pegging him for either some sort of hobo or computer programmer in his head.

"So, how long have you been here?" he started, casual conversation between two people forced to experience the same deal being being the best way to start things up.

"Eh?" Tyki looked at the other man from behind his thick glasses, somewhat surprised at the sudden question. He quickly regained his composure, though. "Uh...I just got here yesterday. What 'bout you?"

Rhode had been here a whole week before he got here himself, and Allen had been here for a while as well, apparently. There was a large chance of this man being here longer too.

"My name's Tyki, what's yours?" The Noah asked, grinning. He couldn't really call this guy 'redhead' or 'boy', and considering you usually needed a name to call someone by, he might as well ask for his real one.

Even newer than he was was. Nathan frowned just a little. At least he probably had one Nightshift under his belt. The last thing he needed was to have to explain his own limited knowledge of Landel's to a newcomer, not that he wasn't well prepared to have to do so at some point. The more informed the masses were, the greater the chance of organization and eventual escape.

"Nathan Petrelli," he replied in the same tone he usually adopted when introducing himself. "I woke up a couple of days ago. How was your first night?"

Just like he thought, Nathan - as the guy was called - had been here longer than he was.

"I was tryin' to find some smokes, but ran into these huge bugs along the way." Tyki answered, gesturing the size of the roaches with his hands - which was about the size of some cat. "I've heard there's a lot worse though, so I guess not too bad."

Even despite the situation, he was still assuming the role of a clueless tramp who had never seen something supernatural. It's what people were supposed to think of his white side anyway, and even though his three human friends weren't even here, his white side was still supposed to look like nothing out of the ordinary.

"So, what about yours?" he asked, shooting the man a curious gaze from behind his glasses.

Nathan had to laugh a little bitterly. In the end, they were still falling short of accomplishing anything, but he supposed an uneventful night could be counted as more successful than their previous ones.

"Not bad comparatively," he finally replied. "A word of advice, though. The cats and the groundhogs are probably worse than the bugs. If the cigarettes are that important to you, you might want to consider arming yourself."

"Of course they're important!" Tyki answered like a chain-smoker would (which he was). To a non-smoker it probably sounded like he needed to get his priorities straight, but honestly, he couldn't care any less about that.

The warning caught the hobo's interest, though. First bugs, and now cats and groundhogs too, huh? Overgrown animals seemed to be a runnin' theme around this place. Though the roach last night had given him more trouble than what should be the case, he hoped the other creatures roaming the halls would be a bit more entertaining. It wouldn't do to bore himself to death while he was here.

"Well, that doesn't sound too good." Tyki replied innocently to the advice, scratching the back of his head. "I'll keep it in mind, though. Thanks, man!"

He had stumbled upon a knife in the kitchen on the second floor last night, and considering he didn't knew how hard it was to get a weapon, he had no idea how lucky he actually was.
