DAY 33: BREAKFAST

Jun 22, 2008 12:56

Renamon blinked, and suddenly she was laying flat in the bed she had originally woke up in. The timing was impeccable, accenting Orihime's explanation perfectly. She just hoped that she hadn't freaked the girl out with her little disappearing act. She quickly shifted out of bed, and grabbed the journal she had wrote notes in last night, and jotted ( Read more... )

A constantly changing world? While he had thought it might be similar the digital world he had visited, it seemed that wasn't the case. Either way, Sora was interested and would have liked to see Renamon's home for himself -- he would have to commit the name to memory and see he could find out anything about it once he made it back to the islands.

She wanted to hear more about the Keyblade, though, and that was definitely something he was an expert on.

"The Keyblade? Well, like I said, it's a special weapon. It's shaped like a key, and you can add different key-chains to it to change its looks and its power. Its purpose is to kill the Heartless, which are beings of darkness that have been invading lots of worlds. For a long time, I traveled to all sorts of worlds to fight the Heartless with the help of the Keyblade. It's bound to my heart, so I still have it with me here." Sora lifted his hand and rested it against his chest.

If he could have, he would have summoned it right then and there so that she could take a look, but she would only have a good chance of seeing it if she hung around him during nightshift.

“Yes, he’s a Nobody. There are … a few of them here.” Thus far there were only two she really considered friends (Roxas and Axel, of course. Naminé didn’t count.), but still Kairi didn’t know whether or not to warn Renamon about the others quite yet.

“A changing world?” how strange. The thought made Kairi frown - if her home kept changing, what would she have done? “You must be very strong yourself, then … if you’ve been able to stay alive.” A world where everything changed depending on certain things … what things caused the change? Would such a question be too personal to ask? Deciding it was best to simply ponder, the once princess kept her mouth shut as Sora explained the keyblade.

Despite the conversation, Kairi really had nothing else to say on the matter of the keyblade. She didn’t really know anything about it - after all, she had spent a year on the island without knowing anything that was going on! How was she to explain a weapon she had only held for what felt like a matter of moments?

A key that was a blade. How interesting. Renamon was amazed at the thought of traveling around to other worlds to defend them. Sure, she herself had traveled back to the Digital World, and then to the human one again to take on the D-Reaper, but that could be seen as personal defense, not one so selfless as that. She wondered if it'd be too intrusive to ask more questions. In the end, she just went with, "I see. Are you able to summon it then, even here?"

"Perhaps I'll ask on the Bulletin Board then," she said to Kairi. "And see if any of them would be willing to speak with me." She'd like to get as many different inputs as possible. "Yes, it does change quite a lot." She thought a moment. She was strong, stronger than most Digimon. She had made herself that way, and Rika had made her even more powerful. But here... "I may have been very strong. But things are very different here. I'm not as I was." That was simplifying things.

Curiousity won out in the end, and she turned back to Sora. "What made you fight to defend others like that?"

"Yeah, I can summon it here, but only when I'm in a lot of danger," Sora admitted, putting a hand to the back of his neck sheepishly. He wished he could show off like usual, but it was more likely for him to lose fights than win them in this place. It was enough to take him down a few notches, but those rare times he did succeed usually made up for it.

Hearing that she might search out the Nobodies on the bulletin board, Sora frowned. He couldn't let her do that, especially since just before breakfast he had read on the board about Luxord hurting someone.

"I don't know if that'd be a good idea," he warned. "Not all of them are safe to talk to." She might be strong, but she had also admitted that she was not the same here - hopefully she would know better than to take that risk.

As for her next question, Sora didn't hesitate to answer. "First it was to find my friends, and that was always what I was focusing on, but I made sure to help people along the way. The Keyblade chose me, so... it was my responsibility to get rid of the Heartless whenever and wherever I could." He glanced to Kairi and sent her a smile - he had worked so hard to save her, had even given up his heart for her, and he knew that she was proud of him.

Kairi couldn’t help but agree when Sora mentioned that all the Nobodies weren’t safe, especially with what was just on the bulletin. “Yes, I don’t think that would be … wise to do. Not all of them are trustworthy,” a pause, and the redhead corrected herself with a frown, “Actually, most of them aren’t trustworthy.”

Kairi gave Renamon a sad smile when she confessed she wasn’t as she normally was, her eyes watching the woman. “I’m sorry to hear you’ve changed since your home. I hope it’s not too hard for you here.”

Who was she kidding? It was hard for everyone.

Turning towards Sora at the mention of saving his friends, Kairi gave him a warm smile and a nod of her head. “He went to many places looking for us. And he helped everyone and still somehow found what he was looking for. The keyblade can really do many things, but it all matters on who’s the one holding it.”

"That's still impressive. I can only use one of my own abilities, and none of my attacks. That you can bring forth a weapon...." She shook her head slightly. This Sora seemed pretty amazing from the things he'd said.

Her eyes narrowed a bit when both recommended against talking with the Nobodies. "They're not safe? Do they work for the Institute then? What about your friend?"

Renamon nodded her head at Kairi. "It's very difficult to get used to. But the hardest thing is all of this happening with no explanation. I want to know why all this was done."

She edited her thought from earlier. Sora was amazing. "That's extremely selfless of you. Most people when given that much power would only use it to better their own world and their self. I'm impressed." She may be unemotional and secretive, but if what they were saying was true, she respected him a great deal. And... "Perhaps this is too forward, but if I find anything concerning portals or doors, may I contact you further?" Keys open doors, right? It wouldn't hurt, after all.

Renamon finally realized she was getting had gotten off track. "I apologize, but I have another question. You two are obviously from the same world. Are there any others from your world with you here?"

"Oh, he's all right, but most of the others aren't," he explained. There was Roxas, but Sora got the feeling that he wouldn't really be up for talking about that sort of thing with a random stranger. Axel would probably be more willing to do it. "His name's Axel," he said, hoping it was all right to give out the redhead's name. Sora figured it was okay, since it wasn't like Axel had to talk to Renamon unless he wanted to. If she was going to try to get a hold of him through the bulletin, he didn't even have to respond.

When Renamon continued to compliment him, Sora's grin grew a little wider and he started to blush. She was so straight-forward with everything she said -- he really appreciated it, but sometimes it was hard to take so much praise and not get a little embarrassed. "Oh, yeah, no problem. I check the bulletin pretty regularly, so if you ever want to talk you can leave a message for me there. Or you can just come find me." It wasn't very often that he sat on his own, but there were those rare times.

As for her last question, Sora leaned back in his chair and thought it over. The first thing it made him think of was Riku, of course, but he and Kairi had already accepted that (for the time being, at least) he was gone. Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie had never shown up here, though he was glad for that. He didn't know if those three would be able to handle this place, and he didn't want them to have to.

"Right now, it's just the two of us, but... others have been here before. There are lots of other people we know who are here, though - they just aren't from our world."

“Yeah, Axel’s okay. Though he might not feel like talking, really. Watch out for any of the other ones, even if they come off as friendly.” Kairi could only imagine Luxord and his poor victim - why had he done such a thing? Anger filled her at the thought of that man hurting someone, her fingertips sizzling with unseen fire. And yet she calmed herself down quickly, a sigh escaping her lips.

The once princess allowed Sora to answer the question about whether there was anyone else from their world in Landel’s, a sad frown crossing her lips. Riku … he really was gone. But perhaps it was for the better - that meant he got out and went home, right?

“What about you?” she asked quickly once Sora was done speaking, tilting her head to the side towards Renamon, “is there anyone from your home world here? I can be kinda scary to have someone so close to you here, but …” she turned and gave Sora a smile. “It can also be kinda good, too. You can at least watch over your friends with way.”

Axel. She would definitely ask him when she had the time to do so. The pair's warnings didn't fall on deaf ears. "What is so bad about these Nobodies?"

Renamon gave a small smile to Sora. "Thank you. I appreciate it." She listened to what else he had to say, then asked, "Ones that you know but aren't from your world--were they ones you've met on your journeys? And, if I may, if others have been here, did they escape, or just disappear?" Toboe missing was eating away at a small part of her inside. She hadn't know the wolf for long, but there was a bond there, and she didn't want to think that anything horribly bad had happened to him.

She had already given thought to Kairi's question. She had imagined Rika with her, or even Impmon. But... "To my knowledge, there's no one from my world here, even though I was traveling with others when I appeared here." She didn't want Rika to be in any harm's way, but to be able to watch over her again... her bright eyes unlocked from the pair and found a spot on the table to look at. She wondered what Rika was doing right now.

Talking about the Nobodies would probably dredge up things he didn't want to think about, but Renamon should know how dangerous they were, if only to make sure that she wouldn't take them lightly if she did decide to talk to any of them. "Well, the thing about Nobodies is that they don't have real feelings, so they won't hesitate to use you for their own gain," he said, tone much more serious now. He didn't like having to talk about them so coldly, but he was basically only parroting the warnings others had given him. "They can fake feelings, though, so... don't be tricked by it."

He set his elbow on the table and then rested his head in his hand as he considered her next question. "Yeah, they're people we've met, pretty much. I don't know if anyone's really escaped from here. Usually they just disappear, or they're brainwashed to think that the lives the nurses try to tell us are real really are real." He frowned and shook his head. That was probably what had happened to Riku -- again.

It must have been hard for her not to have even one person she knew here. Sora was glad that Kairi's thoughts on the whole thing were similar to his own, though. He knew when he had first come here it had been just him, but it hadn't taken too long for familiar faces to show up.
