[from here] Carefully, Beatrix lead the way up the stairs, one hand trailing lightly along the wall just to ensure she was keeping an adequate distance from it. She wasn't using the flashlight and she didn't think she needed it, having walked this path with Rena the night before, but she would not begrudge her apprentice light if she needed it. After all, Mion hadn't been with them the night before.
As she was heading up the stairs, something she hadn't thought of dawned upon her, hoping that Mion simply wouldn't use the light. They were going to be passing right by the door to the place where the girl had been taken for experimentation and torture. The girl was strong, yes, but the Bride had learned that a good portion of that exterior confidence and bluster was just the girl's way of hiding the fact that she was, indeed, a fragile teenager.
"Stay close behind me when we reach the top," she said in a low quiet voice, not wanting to draw the attention of any hostile creatures. "Mion, I want you to stay along the right-hand wall in these halls up here."
