Dayshift 32: Doctor Office #5 (Dr. Washu)

May 16, 2008 16:30

Hm... seemed like it was going to be double-duty today. Two patients up front, and then after that, one more. Not that she minded, she really didn't, but it was frustrating to be unloaded on with new experiments when she hadn't yet fully gone through the other ones. Genius was best when focused! No wonder there were always new patients coming in, ( Read more... )

More than anything, Raine just wanted to sit alone in a corner somewhere with a book, so she was less than pleased when told she had therapy. Well, she hadn't been asked to talk about her mother, or her friends, yet...

While she had been promised a first-aid kit, she doubted Washu would actually give her one; worse, the still-healing slashes on her body would probably be mistaken for self-inflicted. Never mind that if this were a normal hospital, where would I get the kind of blade required to make cuts like these?

She glanced at the walls, at least; she missed being outside. As poor a substitute as the illusion was, it was better than blank white walls. "Impressive. How did you manage this?" She reached to touch a nearby tree trunk. Visually, the office's jungle scene was flawless, and she was honestly curious about the method used to create it.

Well, there were worse ways to start off a session, Washu would admit. At least Jeanne knew genius when she saw it. And hey, what better way to get the ball rolling? "Combination of wall-to-wall photoprojection and strategically-placed mood speakers, of course! As for the other thing, I have a bit of a correspondence with some researchers, and they oh-so-kindly let me borrow some of their video logs. Adds a touch of the exotic, don't you think?"

Despite Washu's words, Raine still expected to touch tree bark and was surprised when her fingers met smooth wall. It's not magitechnology, I'm sure... but some of what I see here does seem like it. "How much energy does this take?" she asked, interested. She was guessing far less than she would have expected from something back home. Magitechnology wasn't wrong in itself; the problem was its power source.

She definitely wouldn't have asked if she knew the word usually used was "electricity".

"Hm... about five thousand kilowatts an hour, I think. I'd have to check my charts later." Washu did have to admit, though, it was nice to have someone appreciating her hard work. It had been a pain to get the moodscape just right! And people seemed more freaked out about it than anything else!

Ah well. She kicked up her feet on her desk, grinning as she did so. "...and by the way, feel free to sit down whenever you want. Whatever's most comfortable for you." A fellow scientist, even a mad one, deserved at least that much!

Siegfried was left wondering what exactly was going on when a nurse collected him from the cafeteria and led him away from the other patients to a hallway he’d never been down, not even during the nightshift. The nurse explained politely to him once outside one of the many doors that he was here to see a doctor, and then ushered him into the room and left.

Siegfried didn’t know what to expect inside the room. He didn’t even know what it would look like - presumably quite bland like the rest of the institute room. When he realised that he was surrounded by a jungle he stopped in his movement and stared. He could hear birds in the background and the trees moved. How was this possible?

Eventually he forced his confused look away from the jungle to the pink haired woman in the room. Was she supposed to be the doctor? She didn’t look like one.

((Ack, I'm terribly sorry that I never saw this! Do you still wanna backthread, or shall we just hold off?))

Huh, not a bad-looking guy. Washu had to admit, though, that this patient was most definitely off his rocker. Soul-eating swords? Possession? And that trauma that caused it all... well, the bigger the problem, the more science she'd have to employ!

"I'm Doctor Washu," she said with a grin, "why don't you sit down? Or, of course, you can marvel at the genius construction of my Washu Moodscape!"

(It’s okay ^^ Backthread is fine by me)

A Washu Moodscape? An invention of hers presumably - it was named after her. The more Siegfried looked at the walls, the more he could see that the surrounding jungle was fake. A trick, smoke and mirrors as they said on his world. Doctor Washu must be a very talented and intelligent person then, to make it look so real.

Marvelling at the genius construction was not something Siegfried wanted to do (though admittedly he was a little curious about how it was achieved.) He took the doctor’s offer and sat down on the couch, but his eyes never left her.

“Why is it that I’ve been brought to the Institute?” He wasn’t expecting a truthful answer really, no more than the ones given by the nurses, but the pink-haired doctor was of a higher rank so maybe she’d tell better lies.

...well shoot. He just had to spoil her fun, huh? Didn't matter, though; his reaction showed just how impressed he had been with the Moodscape. Still, it wasn't quite as good as she'd like; Washu would just have to upgrade it later! Perhaps she could add in real tigers and snakes...

The doctor shook herself when Siegfried asked his question, having to focus on the task at hand rather than inventing something even better than before. "Oh, that? I'll tell you that if you answer my question... what do you think about your father?"
