Day 32: Sun Room (2nd shift)

May 16, 2008 13:44

After the couple glasses of water Leon managed to gulp down during breakfast, the mage felt immensely better. He was still a bit tired, but that was nothing a little lounging on one of the sofas wouldn't cure. Stretching his arms above his head, he couldn't help but wish he'd had the chance to grab one of his new doctor's coats before leaving his ( Read more... )

Well, Brook had been just as energetic as he remembered. Sanji had no doubt at all that he and Luffy would get along fine - whether the musician was a skeleton or not. He still wasn't sure what to think about what revelations Brook had provided them about their future, but he was going to try not to dwell on it too much. He hadn't said anything negative, and that was just fine with him.

Taking a seat at one of the tables, he allowed himself to stretch his legs out and just relax. The wounds on his back ached in protest at this, but they'd healed just enough by now that he could ignore it. His eyes roamed the room, trying to pick out Nami but not seeing anyone. Perhaps it was just too early.

She had to be all right. He'd gotten over his fever, hadn't he?

[Hope you don't mind pestering? Otherwise I can delete.]

Max was restless still after last night, and after a quiet breakfast, she entered the Sun Room looking for something to do. Finding a young man sitting by himself at one of the tables, Max headed in his direction and paused at his side, cocking her head to the side curiously as she regarded him.

"Waiting for someone or am I interrupting your nap?" she spoke in greeting, wondering if he minded company.

[Not at all! I just slept in way too late.]

The chef looked up, blinking in surprise, before letting his mouth widen into a grin. Here was another woman approaching him all on her own, and he wasn't even so obviously wounded this time! He just had the charm, that was it - even done up in this ugly gray ensemble.

And while he had technically been waiting for someone, far be it for him to deny another young lady the chance to take a seat beside him. "No, I'm not napping! Feel free to sit. How are you?"

[It's a weekend] ;)

"Well enough," she replied with an easy grin, sinking down in a chair beside him. She held out a hand in greeting.

"That name's Max."

Sanji took her hand in both of his, patting it gently while the goofy grin remained in place. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance. It's terrible seeing such beauty trapped away in these walls."

Still holding her hand, he gave a short bow. "You may call me Sanji, chef of the high seas and your loyal servant."

"High seas?" Max echoed curiously, smile playing about her lips at his response. "Are you a sailor then, Sanji? And this is hardly the first time I've been trapped in a place like this. Okay, maybe not exactly like this, but I've seen my fair share of four walls I'd rather not have."

Had she been imprisoned before, then? Perhaps they shared a similar lifestyle. Or she was a thief, which was also sexy.

"Pirate," Sanji corrected. "Very well known, though you might not have heard of me if you're not from my world." That could be a blessing as well as a boon, if those ugly posters of him were still going around. He wasn't very fond of being associated with that.

"I doubt it," Max replied apologetically. "I don't think there's many pirates left on the sea in my time and world. They prefer to do their pirating through more technological means. Although I think the concept's pretty much the same. Sounds like you have an exciting life."

Sanji frowned a little at the first part of her response. Technological means? How did that work? They used a lot of gadgets? It wasn't worth dwelling on, really, as her world could be very different from his.

"Exciting?" He grinned again. "I suppose you could say that. Rarely a dull moment, anyway." Leaning in a bit closer, he gave her a wink. "If you enjoy that sort of thing, perhaps you should come back with me and my crew once we find a way out of this place."

"Your whole crew is here?" Max asked, then shook her head. "I'm not sure if I should say good for you, or I'm sorry. And thanks for the invite, but things are rarely dull where I cone from, either. I've probably got plenty waiting for me back home once I get out of here myself, as well."

"Well, not the whole crew..." Not yet anyway. At this rate, though... "Just the majority. And don't worry. We're a tough bunch!" Not that he wasn't going to attempt to keep Nami from harm at every turn whether she liked it or not.

Sanji was disappointed to be turned down, and he sighed. "I guess I understand. Everyone misses their nakama." He didn't stay saddened for long, however. "So! What's life like where you come from?"

"What's a nakama?" she asked with a laugh, a smile flitting across her lips at his obvious disappointment. "Do you recruit for your crew often?"

"My world... is sort of like this one, but way more run down. This was what it used to look like, I've heard, but there was a war, of a sort, so not a lot of places like this are left."

"What's a--?" Sanji blinked. What was it about that word that was different from anything else he'd said? Certainly she knew what a nakama was! ...Unless she didn't have any. That would be terrible. "You know, a nakama! A... well... a friend?" Close enough.

The description of her world wasn't very flattering. And she'd really rather return there than travel with him and his crew? She had to have nakama there.

Understanding flickered across her face. "Oh! Yes. Sorry, it wasn't a term I was familiar with. Yes, I have good friends and family back home. Ones that are no doubt wondering what's happened to me, if they've even realized I've gone missing. The way this place works with pulling people from different people from different places and times... I don't get how it works."

It was odd that she wouldn't have been familiar with the term, but it could just be a difference in worlds. She really did have nakama, and that was good! Perhaps it didn't help him any, but he wasn't going to wish loneliness upon anyone.

"I don't think anyone does," Sanji made a face. "We had a crewmate arrive today who had apparently joined after even where my memories stopped. Now he has to reintroduce himself to everyone. Shitty for him."

Max looked sympathetic. "I bet. I can't imagine showing up here to find your friends only to have none of them know you. That's got to be hard. Although there's a man here who could be an identical twin with my brother. I mistook him my first day here. That led to a confusing conversation for a bit, as well. Luckily, no one I actually know has shown up yet, but who knows how long that will last?"
