Nightshift 31: East Wing, North Hall 1-B

Apr 19, 2008 19:00

[ Coming from here.]

The halls were dark and quiet as Tyler slipped out into an even larger corridor. Trying to remember where he'd met Reid the night before, he searched up the hall to his left and right, hesitating, uncertain which direction to go. Debating a moment later, he finally turned right and started down the long corridor.

Hanyuu continued to walk in the dark, not wanting to use her flashlight until absolutely necessary.

There didn't seem to be anyone else in the hall yet, which was more than a little unnerving. Was she somewhere she shouldn't be? Were things this way known to be dangerous?

Again, the spirit had to stop herself from turning and running in the opposite direction. She was most likely just scaring herself with those thoughts. It was still early, after all. That was probably why things were so quiet...

The hallway was already filled with activity, so Archer saw no harm in turning on his flashlight. He carefully aimed it at the floor, so he didn't attract any unwanted attention.

His eyes flicked to his map. Okay this seemed to be the right way. The women's rooms should be through that door, down the hall, and then to the... His attention was drawn to a nearby shadow that seemed to be going is circles, as if she were afraid of what laid waiting in the dark.

"Hanyuu?" he softly called, lowly shining his light in her direction.

He really had no basis for this brilliant deduction, for all he knew it could have been another child. Although Archer hoped it was his acquaintance from breakfast, at least that way he wouldn't look like an idiot.

More people had started going through the hall, which was a relief. Although they all seemed to be going in the direction she had come from... Maybe this really wasn't such a good idea...

Hanyuu was once again ready to turn and go back to the more familiar route, when someone called to her. She had gotten more used to people calling and talking with her during the day, but night was still a different story. That was likely due to her being even more nervous once night fell, though.

She jumped visibly and would've likely fled the area, had she not realized that she recognized the voice.

"A-Archer!" The spirit couldn't help but smile, and she turned on her flashlight in order to confirm his identity. Hurrying closer to him, she asked, "What are you doing here?"

He took a quick glance to make sure Hanyuu was alright, save for her ruffled nerves.

"I thought you might need this," he replied, taking out a copy of his map. "Here, this map should have most of the unlocked areas of the first and second floor."

Archer already had plans for tonight, so he felt a little bad about leaving Hanyuu alone.

"What are you doing here?" he asked with some concern. "Are you by yourself?"

Hanyuu was surprised to see that he had a map--and even more so, that he had gotten her a copy as well. Nevertheless, it was a good type of surprise, and her expression brightened. "Thank you!" There was no doubt in her mind that having a map would make things easier, at least a little. She couldn't wait to show Rika!

"I've never been this way before, so I thought I would see if there was anything interesting here," she replied, a little sheepishly. "And I wasn't able to make any plans with anyone, so yes, I am by myself right now... But that's okay! I was able to meet Arlene the last time I was alone, so hopefully I'll be able to find one of my friends tonight too."

Seeing Hanyuu's cheerful expression brightened the mood a little. Well, as much as it could under their hellish conditions. The hospital really felt like a horror flick with people aimlessly stumbling about in the middle of the night, the perfect meal for the monsters hiding in the shadows.

"Your welcome," he replied. "According to the head doctor's little spiel their shouldn't be any enemies in the CM-US hallway, but I don't know if we should believe his words."

Although what Hanyuu said next really wasn't very comforting at all. She was alone and apparently didn't know where her friends were...

"I have to meet up with some people tonight, so I can't stay with you..." damn he really felt bad now, but he couldn't just leave her alone in the dark. Well, technically he could... After mulling over his options, Archer deduced that either choice was a shitty one.

"Will you be alright by yourself?" a hint of concern laced in his voice.

Hanyuu wasn't exactly sure where the CM-US hallway was, but she had it in her mind to steer clear of that place. Even though the Head Doctor had said it would be clear, she didn't really believe him either. "The Head Doctor is the one responsible for all this, isn't he? I don't think anyone should believe anything he says... If you're going to be around that area, then please be careful."

Archer's next statement and quesion dampened her mood slightly. Although she knew she needed to learn to do things on her own, she wasn't going to deny that it would've been nice to stay with him. She wasn't sure how well she'd fare on her own, either... The spirit hadn't been able to do anything against those monsters her first night. If Arlene, Mion, and Rena hadn't been there...

Still, it couldn't be helped and she really didn't want to cause any unnecessary worry. So, she nodded and replied, "I'm used to being by myself, so I'll be okay." She had spent centuries alone, after all. "I'll be careful."

Archer easily picked up on Hanyuu's disappointment; he felt the same. For a moment, the Servant briefly considered bringing Hanyuu along with him but ultimately decided against it. First one thing, he wasn't sure what Hinamori's team would think if he brought another person. It was best he kept things simple. They were expecting a single addition to the team, and that's what he'd give them.

The other issue was that Archer was likely to encounter danger during the night. God knows, he's been itching for some action.

Man, I really need to kill something.

In the end there was nothing he could do.

"Alright then, stay safe Hanyuu," he said as he walked away. He cast a single glance back, before leaving the hall.

"Uh-huh! Good luck, Archer!" Hanyuu called, waving until he disappeared from sight. She'd have to make sure to somehow check on him the next day--as well as her friends from home and Arlene--just to make sure everything had gone all right.

For now, though, she needed to decide where to go. And thankfully the newly aquired map would help in that regard. With the aid of her flashlight she was able to determine that this hall just led outside... And although that sounded like a good thing, the spirit didn't really want to be outside alone. So, she turned back and hurried down the path she was more accustomed to.
