Nightshift 31: M11-M20 Hallway

Apr 19, 2008 14:43

Axel yawned as he prepped up his equipment for tonight, shrugging on his coat with little effort before zipping it up to the middle of his chest. He wasn’t expecting anything action packed to happen, but he might as well strut down the halls in style. There really wasn’t much else for him to bring besides his weapon and flashlight, but he pocketed ( Read more... )

Goodness knows what II had in mind for the night. Luxord, for his part, merely lounged on his bed and read, waiting for the other Nobody to arrive.

This had better be worth his while.

This was the place. Freakin' sweet; Xigbar was making great time, and at this rate he was going to be able to get his bow in no time flat. Of course, the easy part was done; now he had to convince X to come along, and then actually get the stuff. Well, there was nothing like a challenge, right?

So Xigbar, shirtless and all, merrily knocked on Luxord's door, calling out, "Hey, X! C'mon out and let's get going!"

At least Xigbar finally learned how to knock. After placing his book down on the table, the Gambler opened the door and frowned.

"You have no shame."

"Thought you already knew that. 'sides, you've seen more'n this." Xigbar said that all with a broad grin and a gleam in his eye, even going so far as to lean against the doorway to emphasize his shamelessness lean frame. "Anyway, we're going to the sheds outside. So if you haven't stretched, you prolly should. Don't imagine you've been doing much of anything over the past few nights."

[from M13]

It had been a quiet dinner, and if anything went right (which it almost never did) it would be a quiet night as well. It was already seeming to head that way, with the alarm that had sounded right before night fell.

If he hadn't promised to be somewhere else, he might've gone to investigate just what was going on.

But more than that, Omi needed him. Ken slipped his claw on his right hand, took flashlight and journal, and headed out the door.

Gin's roommate had been quiet during dinner, which was well enough with him too. He'd slipped into his old robes, tugging his captain's jacket on, despite the blood stains. White was so hard to keep clean, sometimes he wondered what they'd been thinking in Soul Society, issuing them in the first place. The black was at least practical. With some care, he tucked his knife into the sash at his side, then his pillowcase as well. It would do well in case he found anything worth keeping that wouldn't just fit into his sleeves.

He picked up his radio, tying that to his belt as well, then took his flashlight, changing out the dead batteries for the ones Cloud had given him. Seeing in the dark had to be a useful commodity in this place. Hopefully Cloud would be able to make some decent progress with it.

Gin took one last look at his notes, tucked his map into his sleeve, and slipped out the door. There was plenty to be done tonight.

Momo approached M14 and somehow found a way to maintain an acceptable control over her emotions. She was very angry at Kimbley for this, but she was starting to suspect his room had been changed by the staff. What ticked her off was his inconsideration in not informing her of this.

Glancing over to make sure Hokuto was staying right where the firl had been told to, the shinigami drew in a deep breath and drew her broken katana. She held it loosely at her side, choosing not to appear threatening to the alchemist at all. Eyes indicative of her displeasure, Momo knocked upon the door before her, much heavier than she normally would have.

She truly hoped Kimbley hadn't chosen to double-cross her.

Hokuto glanced around, then put the motor down at her feet; it was clear she planned on staying put, but if anything happened she wanted her hands free.

She had her shovel positioned so that she could grab it quickly if she needed to, but for now she just slipped back into a light meditative state; this wasn't a good time to be alone with her thoughts, but she had alternatives, and this just happened to be the best thing she could do for herself for a lot of reasons.

When she reflected on about how much she'd meditated lately, she realized that in a lot of ways, Landels was the perfect training ground... Hokuto tried not to groan at the thought. If she had the power to get into the Shinigami Academy, even fourth year would be a breeze after this.

To be perfectly honest, Kimbley hadn't even been aware of his own room switch until he found himself in a new hallway with a new roommate. It wasn't until the heavy knock on his door came that he realized somehow, that girl had tracked him down - how the hell could she have known - that he'd failed to inform her that he'd moved.

How the hell was he supposed to do that, anyway?

He opened the door and matched her disapproving anger with a dry look of his own.

"This was news to me," he said before she could berate him for up and switching on her.

Kimbley's admission that he hadn't been aware of the room switch abated Momo's anger. For now. Her features smoothed out again and she nodded. "Good to hear my initial though that you chose to reconsider our arrangement was false," the shinigami replied. She raised an eyebrow at him. "I'd hate for that to have been the case."

She took the six inch piece that had been broken off of her sword from her belt as well as the pillowcase containing the small bag of fertilizer. "I'm sure you have other things to do this night, so if you are ready..." She held the items out to the alchemist, then cocked her head.

"If I remember correctly, you have a meeting with my roommate."

Hijikata moved quickly as soon as the lights went out, tucking a handful of scalpels into his sling in places where they wouldn't gouge his arm. Annoying the injury might be, but that was no reason not to make use of it.

The light and the wooden rod from the closet went on the end of his bed, and he sat next to them, subtly testing his shoulder's range of motion as he waited for Homura to appear.

Homura took a bit longer to leave his room, if only because he took the time as always to change into his normal clothes. Part of his routine, the transition from day to night, observer to warrior. Or just a taste of what his life once was, and would be again in time.

In any case, the demi-god wore his outfit proudly, sword tied to his side with a loop of fabric, and a pillowcase tucked into his belt. He carried his flashlight as he came into the hall, and spotted Hijikata almost immediately. Coming over to the man, he smirked, eying the injury yet again.

"Do you feel up for traveling? It will save time if you come with me now." And given how important time was at night, Homura was willing to let the man take the risk. No doubt Hijikata was still incredibly lethal, and Homura wasn't overly concerned about the man coming along as he was. Certainly not like he would be with some others he could name, at any rate.

Nodding shortly, Hijikata tucked the flashlight into his sling and took up his stick. He was growing impatient with the clumsy weapon -- hopefully he would be able to obtain a real sword tonight.

"I'm fine to travel," he said simply.

Besides, injured or not, he found himself cheered at the idea of beating some monster's head in.

"Very well." Homura knew it would be pointless to argue with Hijikata even if he was the type to be overly concerned, and he wasn't. The man would be able to handle himself, and that was good enough for the demi-god. And with that, Homura started off. There was, as always, no time available for them to waste.

"This way."
