Dayshift 31: Sun Room (Shift 2)

[Scoobies + Bella's epic field day: readystartgo]

Taking his pick between sun and no sun wasn't that hard of a choice, really. Angel ended up in the Sun Room on a couch near the back, facing the entrance to keep an eye on anyone coming in. And by the window. The window and its resulting sunlight was important ( Read more... )

Sanji had been collected by a nurse that wasn't his usual one (and he'd wished he'd had a better opportunity to appreciate this) who immediately began fretting over his temperature and general unwell-ness. Forcefully given some fever-reducers, a damp cloth for his forehead, and a blanket for the rest of him, the chef was led to the sunroom where the nurse told him he'd have a better opportunity to lay down. If that was what she wanted, Sanji didn't understand why he wasn't simply taken back to his bedroom, but he didn't argue.

Finding an empty sofa, the woman helped him get comfortably situated with his back to everyone else in the room before leaving him on his own. A voice in the back of his head was telling him that he really needed to check on how Nami was doing, if he could find her, but he was feeling too drained to bother even turning around to get a better scope of who was in the room with him.

[*bothers again*]

"You look pathetic." Anyone who knew Zoro well enough would hear the almost half-sigh in his voice as he leaned on Sanji's couch. With his back to the chef Zoro stood there, arms crossed and head carelessly tilted away to observe something else in the room.

The other pirate looked vulnerable, miserable even, and Zoro looked as much a bodyguard as he did a casual bystander just standing over a lump on the couch.

Leave it to his green-headed rival to keep him from sleep when he could actually use it - ironic, considering how much time the other pirate spent napping. "Mn. I still look better than you on my worst days."

Sanji sat up slowly and with much grinding of teeth to keep from wincing at the movement. Then, slumped against the armrest, he proceeded to glare at Zoro. He'd need his rest if he wanted to be in the best shape he could be come nightfall. "Have you seen Nami?"

Zoro pointedly chose not to notice Sanji's jibe or the other's difficulty getting up. He kept his half-lidded eyes trained on the balcony above them, ever vigilant for danger.

"No," If this bothered Zoro, he gave no indication of it. "But she posted on the board earlier. She's in her room with a fever."

"She's-!" Sanji was on his feet quickly. Too quickly. He made a short but pained sort of choking noise before falling back into the seat. Grasping an aching head with one hand and his bandaged shoulder with the other, he had to take a moment or two to rebalance himself.

The fever had to have been caused by that monster woman from the previous night. She'd caused them to heat up from the inside out somehow. But for it to carry over to the next day? At least Nami was well enough to write. He needed to find the board.

"Stay still if you can't move, stupid love-cook." Zoro muttered with a sideways glance at Sanji. The other looked too damn pathetic. Taken down by a fever and a few wounds... Zoro had long understood how important it was to counter-act whatever had weakened them. Now it was just a matter of it being sooner rather than later. If they kept at their goals (which they would, no doubt) this would end up happening again.

The effects of the previous night were easy enough to observe on Sanji now that the other pirate was sitting up properly. Zoro looked over his shoulder and snorted. Sanji wasn't going to heal if he didn't sleep or rest.

How to get the stubborn bastard to lay back down?

"You're useless enough without the fever, you know."

"Are you looking to have your ass kicked, you shitty marimo?" The threat wasn't nearly as... threatening sounding as Sanji would have liked. He lowered the hand from his head and glared, but his gaze was too bleary for that to be much better. "And I can move. How do you think I got here?" Granted, he'd had some assistance with that and he didn't like the idea of doing much more of it any time soon, but he wasn't completely invalid.

Really.

He was careful as he slumped back in the seat again. The places Eve's claws had raked across his back the night before seemed to have been stitched up well, but he didn't want to put too much pressure on them.

Zoro watched Sanji with a calm eye, not rising to the bait but not completely ready to let the chef get away with the insult either.

"Dunno. You look immobile to me, cook." The way Zoro narrowed his eyes could have easily been described as mocking. Even the way his brows fell-- slow, purposeful, and paired with that same half-lidded look he'd been giving the balcony only moments before-- looked calculated to anger.

On the other hand, his smirking made for a more obvious attempt at pissing Sanji off.

"Mmg." Sanji grumbled, not willing to rise again to lay the smack down on Zoro just yet. "At least I got to do something useful last night."

He didn't actually know what Zoro and Luffy had been up to before they arrived on the scene (probably getting lost somewhere) but judging from the healthy state they'd been in when they arrived, it wasn't likely they'd run into any trouble along the way.
