Dayshift 31: Sun Room (Shift 2)

[Scoobies + Bella's epic field day: readystartgo]

Taking his pick between sun and no sun wasn't that hard of a choice, really. Angel ended up in the Sun Room on a couch near the back, facing the entrance to keep an eye on anyone coming in. And by the window. The window and its resulting sunlight was important ( Read more... )

Moose was weird and not all that much fun either. At least there had been sugar for breakfast, otherwise things would have been really boring and have left her in a bad mood. She was still bored (but then again, when wasn't she during the day?), and she hoped the next room would have some entertainment. She'd pouted enough to get the nurse not to take her to the Library - books were too boring - so she was led into the Sun Room and left to herself. Looking around, she pouted at not seeing many people there yet. Her pickings for a plaything were slim, it seemed. That was until she spotted a bit of white peeking over the edge of one of the couches.

She knew enough white-haired patients by now that even if it wasn't her preferred exorcist, she'd still be able to play with at least one. Skipping over, she got much quieter as she came up behind the couch, ready to pounce. Then she jumped up and fell over, grabbing whoever it was around the neck and giggling out a, "Guess who?" as she flopped over. Even if she hadn't met whoever it was, she could always claim she'd been mistaken and get a plaything just the same.

Oh, but just look at who it was?! She must have been getting some of the luck Moose had been talking about! It had been a while since she'd gotten to play with her little Allen Walker!

Allen was on the verge of sleep, eyes closed, and breathing deeply when he was ambushed. He'd heard her voice, but barely had time to react before he felt a weight on his chest and she'd wrapped her arms around his neck like a vice. He tried to get his balance, sit up, and push her away all at once, but only ended up flailing and sputtering for a moment before he put his hands around her wrists.

"R-rhode?! You- G-get off!"

"Ahaha!" she laughed at his flailing, but didn't loosen her hold in the slightest. It wasn't so easy to catch Allen Walker like this, so she wasn't about to let go so he could run away! Even if they went tumbling to the floor!

"But I finally found you Allen! Don't make me leave," she whined, though the amusement in her tone betrayed her real reasons for not wanting to get off. Her grin was far too obvious anyway. Having him to herself for a little while was sure to cure the boredom Moose had given her at Breakfast. Hm, that reminded her. "You were mean last time too, apologize!" she demanded suddenly. Him and that Renji guy hadn't even apologized since they'd confronted her at Lunch. Now was a great time to make at least Allen do so. He was the only one she cared for if he apologized, so it would suffice.

"A-apologize for what?!" Allen demanded, finally righting himself in his seat, though he was no closer to removing her arms from his neck. For a child, she had a grip like iron! It wasn't fair! He found himself wishing he'd just asked to be taken back to his room to sleep instead of doing so out in the open. This wouldn't do at all!

She cuddled closer to him once he stopped flailing, bringing her face dangerously close to his. "You know what, Allen," she purred, blowing against his skin as she did, "You and that mean Renji. That wasn't fair, so you'd better apologize." And if he didn't, she wouldn't be letting him go any time soon. Or, at least, not any sooner than she might if he did apologize. She still wanted to cling to him for a bit; it bothered him so! That constant reminder about being a human too.

Plus it was fun!

The close contact was making him terribly uncomfortable and it showed in the pained expression on his face. He could only hope that the nurses would notice it as well. The fact that she was blowing on his skin suggestively wasn't helping his discomfort any either! "I- That was- I... I won't. I meant every word of what was said."

"Ehhhhh, but that's not fair," she whined, this time actually meaning it more as whining and less as play. She was still upset that she'd been ganged up on like that. Allen was such a bully! But that didn't make sense since he was so kind. That Renji guy and some of the other exorcists must have been forcing him.

"Only the Earl can tell me what to do, and I don't even listen to him sometimes," she warned to clarify. Him wanting her to do something was ridiculous when she barely followed to orders given her by the Earl.

"It is fair. I don't think we're asking that much of you," Allen frowned, still trying to disentangle himself from her grasp. That conversation seemed like ages ago, though it was only what... a day? two? After the scare a couple nights back, he'd sunk pretty low for a while.

After a moment he sighed and gave up, letting his arms fall to his sides, "Would... would you please get off?"

"No, you weren't asking, you were telling. There's a big difference, Allen," she pouted. "I don't like being told what to do." By anyone really. She liked doing what she wanted to do, when she wanted to do it. And Allen wanted to take away what limited amount of freedom she had in deciding what she wanted to do in this place? That was unfair no matter how she looked at it.

When she felt his tension release, she pouted more. Aww, he wasn't going to struggle, anymore? That took some of the fun out of clinging to him. Still, being practically on top of him, and therefore had him all to herself. That was fun enough in her mind. She didn't want to move. "Don't wanna," she answered, smiling brighting down at him.

"We're not your toys Rhode," Allen said firmly. "If anything at all, we're enemies. I'm trying to offer you a truce. You're outnumbered here you know. And... And we just don't want anyone getting hurt. You understand?" He was almost certain she wouldn't, but he had to put forth the effort anyway.

Getting her to move would likely prove even more difficult. He sighed inwardly. He couldn't very well hit a girl, nor could he be terribly mean. It just wasn't in his nature to do so, but he was not at all pleased with the way he was being treated either. "I asked nicely," he added.

Not her toys? Of course they were her toys! She didn't have anything else she could play with here, so they automatically became her substitutes. That was how it always worked. Not that she always ended up being unable to play with her own toys, but that was how it would have always worked.

She took her head a little away from his face but didn't let it fall very far, deciding to see how Allen Walker would respond to her using his shoulder like a pillow. If he didn't want to protest her being so close to him anymore, that was his decision, and she was going to take advantage of it as much as she could. Maybe she could make him react again with just little touches.

"Hmmmm..." she thought about what he was saying a little. Being reminded of her position here wasn't something she'd wanted to talk about (there went that "luck" Moose had mentioned). "Telling me what to do isn't a truce, it's just bullying," she said after a while of thinking, "You're not letting me choose, and not making it sound like it'd be fun." She needed things to be fun. If things got too boring, she wouldn't be able to promise how her actions would be affected.

But since she was talking about it, there was some consideration there. Just a little. There was one thing she knew truces had as well, and it would mean she would get to be with Allen a lot more. That was, in all honesty, an appealing option to her.

Why did she have to get so damn close?! She was a child and still she insisted on doing such... such strange things! He winced away from her touch, wishing the nurses would hurry up and remove her. It wasn't something he could do easily on his own, not with a big, heavy weight on his chest!

"There's always a choice. If you decide to break the rule, then you decide to accept the consequences of your actions. I don't..." he hesitated, "I don't want to keep arguing this with you." He pulled at her wrist, trying to detach at least one.

"Ne, promise to play with me every day, and I'll say yes," she said suddenly, pushing up from him a bit (but, of course, still not letting go). That was a good trade, wasn't it? If she could get Allen, then she could still have fun by playing by some rules. And there was still the "what Allen Walker doesn't know won't hurt" way out of things.

She locked her fingers together behind his neck when he started pulling at her wrist. "Stop that, Allen."

"Every day?" he could actually feel goosebumps rising on his arms. He'd been the victim of her "playtime" once before and while his body had healed, it hadn't forgotten just how painful it'd been. At the same time, if it meant she'd leave the rest alone... maybe it was worth it.

"R-renji said I'm not supposed to negotiate..." he stammered, though he sounded nervous and weak-willed at best. He just hoped she hadn't heard the same thing.

"No," he frowned, giving her wrist another tug, "you have to let go! I... I really mean it!"

She wanted every day, but knowing this place... "Mmmm, every day I can see you," she amended, giving it a thought, "They like splitting us up here..." She hadn't seen him in forever, it felt like. She certainly couldn't see him in the showers, that was for sure.

"Renji's not here." She didn't want to her about him either! "And if he's making you do this, then you can forget it."

She pouted harder when he started getting adamant and finally let go of her hold around his neck. That left her on top of him though, which she liked just as well. Scooting back a little, she put her head down again, this time on his chest. "I can hear your heartbeat, Allen," she purred.

Even though she'd moved away, it still felt uncomfortable. She couldn't really think he loved her, could she? Hadn't he told her it wasn't so? He thought he'd been fairly clear in making that point. "That's probably... not... that is..." he tried to scoot back, but he was already stuck against the edge of the couch.

"He's not. I just... I told you before, I don't want anyone to get hurt. We all have to make compromi-" but of course she wasn't paying attention. She'd laid her head down right on his chest! His cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. In a public place no less!

"M-miss Rhode, you really mustn't do that!" he put his hands on either side of her shoulders and held her back at arm's length. "I-it's very inappropriate!"
