Nightshift 30: West Wing, Hall B

[ Coming from here.]Tyler took off down the nearest corridor, ignoring the exhaustion that quickly started wearing down on him the moment he broke into full speed. He could hear Reid's footsteps behind him and he silently cursed the fact that he'd picked a hall with nothing else in it, no doors or rooms or other corridors to duck into. He only hoped ( Read more... )

He couldn’t really complain about the running thing; he’d seen a lot of bizarre shit in his day, and not even Reid could argue the fact that it was damn stupid to try and mess with the creepy crawlies back, not without magic. It was what they normally made fun of normal people for. It wasn’t so funny right at that moment.

And it just made him more pissed, since he knew Tyler was maxed out completely.

Glances were routinely shot over his shoulder, but more to keep an eye out. Seemed like there was another hall with doors and crap, but this one was totally empty. Bad news if they got trapped. "Yeah, and watch Michael Myers doesn’t come through it with a hatchet, ‘kay?" came the jerky reply.

Tyler managed a snort, despite being nearly out of breath. "That's just what we need," he managed to retort back, and then they'd reached the door, and he burst through it without pausing to look behind him, hoping they could get out and get the door closed behind them before whatever it was decided they'd be fun to follow.

[ Going to here.]

[ Running away from here.]

Tyler all but fell back into the dark hallway they'd left a short time before. He fell against the wall, gasping desperately for breath, eyes turned frantically back towards the door that had slammed shut behind them, waiting to see if they'd be followed. Would he come crashing through the door or was he too big? Were they safe here for the moment?

And then his frantic attention was turned to Reid, remembering how the blond had stumbled against him, and his hands immediately began searching for an injury.

"Fuck, Reid! Did he get you?"

This particular brother of the covenant was rarely without some kind of snappy comment, or even one that was not so witty. Speechlessness was rare.

Words didn’t come to Reid, however. More or less, he just retreated further away from the door, panting. His head felt full of crap. Swallowing and trying to wet his dry mouth, Reid reached back and knew at once where the wound was once his fingers slid against damp material, too soaked to just be sweat. Wetness clung to his fingertips.

He tried to brush aside Tyler’s seeking hands, instinctively not wanting it to get pawed at, warding against the pain. And already it was starting to hurt. He swallowed again. "A bit, probably."

Tyler glanced back over his shoulder at the door. All was quiet. For the moment.

Can we risk stopping long enough to take a look at it?" he wondered aloud, then made up his mind. He'd do what he could. Maybe Pyramid Head couldn't make it inside... It was wishful thinking, at least.

"Turn around, let me see your back," Tyler replied quickly, his voice hushed, half afraid of what he would find once the blond did so.

Reid couldn't hear much aside from the rhythmic pulsing in his ears; the dark had never seemed so claustrophobic until then, not even during the dark, uncomfortable nights he'd spent while thirteen and stuck under Gorman's care.

For once, he did as instructed, but only because he wouldn't be able to take care of it himself. And magic was out. The thought chafed even more when Reid found himself biting through the pain and reaching back to pull his shirt over his head. Makeshift compress, yeah. Stop the bleeding and all that.

He was still holding his flashlight in a death grip, and promptly dropped it to get it out of his way, keeping it on so it would illuminate a bit of the hallway ahead.
