Nightshift 30: Courtyard

Mar 04, 2008 09:44

[[ from here. ]]River landed, flexing her legs so that impact wouldn't damaged them. Already, her head was spinning from the feat, and she had to take a moment to collect herself, huddled in a small pile of girl against the wall she'd just scaled. A simple feat was leaving her heart racing, and her breath came hard for at least five minutes until ( Read more... )

Argilla jumped down after him, strong fingers gripping onto the wall and lowering herself down, slightly more gracefully than Heat. She had no desire to jar her legs like he had. And wasted movements lost energy and made her more hungry.

She looked around carefully, eyes widening at the sight of the courtyard. More green, and fesh water. Not rain either. She closed her eyes and breathed in the scent of the area, enjoying it, before another spike of hunger shot through her.

Three-on-three, that was only fair. The bats, who had been perched on the roof of the shed in the corner of the area, spread their diseased wings and took off at the first sign of fresh meat.

There was another fight raging, but that was too chaotic for them to get involved in. These three would do nicely for a light snack -- and, if they were lucky, for a full meal.

Barely giving the two who had hit the courtyard ground time to adjust, two of the bats swept toward each patient, prominent fangs searching for the flesh at their necks.

The third focused on the one who was still on the wall, hoping to knock him down and incapacitate him to make feeding a simpler matter.

Well well... Roland had to admit, he'd never expected the kind of chaos that greeted him when he made his way to the top of the wall. Swords, and blood, and so much action that Indra wanted to crawl to the top and charge right into the melee. Roland was already about to jump off the wall before something managed to change his mind ( ... )

Well, just look there. Flying food. Bats. She didn't like bats. Certain others had soured her attitude towards the creatures. And food was food.

She let Heat go for the one which Roland had knocked down and moved away from the wall herself, brandishing the pole and licking her lips. Oh yes, these would do very well. She aimed the pole at one of the creatures, intending to take out a wing and stop it from flying away. Then she could eat.

The combination of the lightning crackling against it and Heat's vicious attack was enough to bring the bat that had been going after Heat to the ground, body sizzling as it let out a pathetic cry. It did not deal well with lightning, and the brightness of that attack was enough to make all three bats flinch.

The one that had knocked Roland down was hardly bothered, though. It had succeeded in its attack, and it wasn't about to let up. It dove down toward the man's body -- finding the neck protected, its fangs searched out the flesh near his abdomen instead, instinctively knowing there were lots of blood vessels there.

As for the third one, it wasn't able to dodge the hit from Argilla's pole, which threw off its flight pattern somewhat. But it was vigilant and able to quickly recover, sweeping around to the woman's side and aiming for her shoulder.

It was starting to become old hat, and if it didn't involve so much pain, Roland would have laughed. Everyone wanted a literal piece of him, it seemed; he'd have to ask Heat later if he was really that tasty or if he just had the worst luck of the three ( ... )

Argilla growled softly when the bat steadied itself in the air, the glancing blow not seeming to be more than an irritation for it. Oh, no way was she letting it get at her like that! She twisted quickly, bringing the pole down towards it again while at the same time, she forced her arm to twist into Prithvi's spiked whip arm, Argilla's eyes glowing a sickly yellow as the limb formed.

Once it was there and whole, she forced aside the wave of tiredness that washed over her and lashed out with it, intending to knowck the beast out and then wrap her limb around it.

The bat attacking Roland did get a few good chunks out of him, but the excitement of getting food had made it drop its guard. With that weapon materializing out of nowhere (and so close to it, at that), there was no time or space for it to dodge the blow. Its fragile body stood no chance against the prongs that squelched through its throat, and the bat was skewered lifelessly onto the weapon.

As for the one that was targeting the female, it had not expected part of its own kin to be used against it. Still, it had good senses and was able to dodge the throw, but the quick swerve it had to take led it right into range of Argilla's attack, which knocked it painfully to the ground.

Thank goodness for that. Roland grimaced as he felt the extent of the damage, grateful that it didn't seem to be immediately fatal. The last thing he wanted to cap off the evening was a lingering death as his body ate itself from the inside out. More importantly, there was food now.

The demon ripped into the bat's fragile body with gusto, ripping out long strips of the wings and shoving them into his own mouth, then moving on to the limbs and body. For someone who had been starved for real food for days, it was a feast; blood stained his lips, muscle ripped and tore from his sharp teeth, and even the bones were cracked and devoured for the precious data they contained.

Really, it was just like being back home.

Argilla hissed in triumph when the bat went down, reverting her arm to normal and practically puncing on the bat. She grabbed it's head and quickly snapped its foul little neck, grinning as she heard the bones snap, the noise giving her hunger a sharper edge, the demon inside her screaming for the flesh.

She picked it up and tore into the wing, tearing chunks of bloody flesh off and gulping it down, sweeter than anything else she'd eaten while here.

Mm... Roland didn't stop devouring until he'd eaten the last bits of flesh and bone that he could find, finishing up with an eager lick of his lips to get out the last bits of blood. That would keep him going for a little while, but... honestly. He wanted more flesh. And the short man with the swords wasn't going to offer much for the amount of effort it would take.

The demon of lightning strolled to his two comrades, grinning as he did so. Seemed like they all had their fill... how convenient. "What now? Moving on?"

[ooc: Hope you don't mind. ^^; I meant to post a lot earlier but RL got in the way.]

The man who carried the swords wasn't their only problem. The swords themselves had the tendency to wonder, and this one in particular had a strong will of its own. It had watched them eat from far, trying to figure out if they were monsters or patients despite their clothing. This was important for only one reason: it could kill monsters.

Futsunomitama flew and darted between them to get their attention. So what if it cut one here or there if they didn't move out of the way fast enough? They were scum, and it was a divine sword. It raised itself above their heads and shouted. "You've had your fill, disgusting demons! Return to your rooms at once!!!"
