NIGHTSHIFT 30: M41-M50 HALLWAY

Feb 26, 2008 10:13

[In M47]Artemis was particularly pleased at how the day had ended. Showering with his fellow underage males had been embarrassing and uncomfortable, but he'd ended on a good note--a wonderful, wonderful argument in which the opponent couldn't hit him. Perhaps the orderlies weren't so bad after all ( Read more... )

Haku nodded and frowned, though he was pleased they had been placed back in their rooms before actual nightfall.

Something was off here with Artemis, but he wasn't sure what to do to help. "Yes. I made two copies of the maps here as I know them, including the outside areas surrounding the facility here." He slipped both packets of paper from his journal and held one up. Three pages each, one held the outline of the 'hospital' with the grounds that Haku had seen around it, the second held the complete first floor and the third held 98% of the second. "They're as complete as I can make them right now, but since there is another level to this place, they aren't finished. Would you like one anyway?"

He didn't need them, he'd memorized it already, and he wasn't sure if Artemis needed it either, but even if he didn't, maps were useful barganing tools.

"Ah, wonderful," Artemis smiled and took one of the copies. He had maps, but not of the grounds surrounding the institute. "Thank you Haku, I don't have a map like this one."

Artemis placed the maps on his desk and opened his closet to retrieve his coat. Well, there it was--his suit. Perfect and pristine as though he hadn't bled profusely in it. He had to give Landel's laundry staff credit--it had been a lot of blood and a lot of poison. He stepped into the closet and shut the door to change.

"What are you up to tonight?" He called from inside.

Haku sat on his own bed and started to put together his bag. "I don't know," he said. "I hope to finish what I started last night though." He smiled slightly. With luck, Zabuza-san wouldn't have any surprises waiting for him this time around.

[coming in from here]

Zabuza once again didn't knock. He still didn't care enough about Artemis' privacy to bother with it, even if the boy was in the middle of changing (at least he was in the closet, because coming in on a half-naked Artemis with Haku would have created a bad situation).

Zabuza felt dizzy from all the moving around. He didn't say anything just moved directly to sit down on the boy's desk chair as Haku got ready. He focused on clearing his head and feel better.

Renji wasn't going to wait around. He and Hisoka didn't have a whole lot to say to each other these days anyway. He got changed, grabbed his stuff, and was out the door as soon as it opened. He and Daemon needed to take care of things quickly so he could report to Hitsugaya.

As for the Head Doctor's announcement... worry on that could wait until he decided if he even believed the asshole or not.

Hikaru hadn't felt very hungry after his shower, so he'd asked to be conducted to his room instead of to the dinner shift. Surprisingly, his nurse had complied. She still seemed a little rattled from what had happened at breakfast, and he guessed that she welcomed one less responsibility.

Now...he was kind of regretting that choice. He was getting kind of hungry.

Well, whatever. He'd have to move fast if he wanted to get to Kaoru's room before his brother decided to do something stupid. Like leave.

The Head Doctor's words made him pause a little, but not for long. The man on the radio had seemed like he was on the patients' sides, but he'd never personally impacted the twins' lives. The news of his death made Hikaru feel sort of vaguely sad, like hearing that an actor he'd sort of liked had died or something.

But...no time to think about that now.

Ginji couldn't believe it. The evil doctor had announced something... there was no way it could be true. Ginji hadn't met the man behind the radio, but the man's voice had been one of the few things keeping Ginji company the last few nights as he stayed in his room. Now the head doctor had killed him? And to top it off... Akabane was here! And Kyon had seemed hurt during dinner. Ginji felt so uneasy and so utterly useless ( ... )

He'd pulled out the bottle of scotch as soon as he'd heard the doors lock. No dinner in their rooms tonight, so the nurses wouldn't come back until morning. The pack of cigarettes followed, and he lit one up quickly, savouring the taste of the smoke and letting the familiar taste and scent and gesture calm his nerves a little. Shame they couldn't do anything about how he was feeling ( ... )

Schuldig had been planning to spend a few minutes with Crawford or Yohji; he'd have been fine with whichever man showed up at his room first, actually while they waited for the third member of their group to show up. Knowing that Yohji was drowing himself in good scotch hadn't changed his mind, simply because he hadn't seen Crawford in a few nights and wasn't going to pass up the opportunity, but he'd also hoped Yohji would eventually remember on his own that he'd meant to do something more important with his night than brooding and drinking.

However, by the time he and Crawford had finished and the afterglow had worn off, Yohji still hadn't budged, hadn't even remembered he was holding anyone up, and had emptied most of a whole damned bottle of scotch. If they didn't go fetch him soon, he'd be in no shape to accompany them at all ( ... )

Crawford had been out of his room and at Schuldig's door the instant the locks had come undone. He had no intentions of wasting this nightshift alone in his room, clutching at his skull because of the pain (something he'd found himself doing more and more here, when he hadn't had to for nearly ten years). While their amusement with each other while waiting for Yohji was a blissful reprieve, the waiting eventually became irritating, and the two of them were down the hall shortly.

He learned in the doorway to Yohji's room, watching with no small sense of satisfaction as Schuldig snatched away the bottle and backhanded him. (The only way it could have been better was if Schuldig had actually struck him with the bottle.) Weiss had always had a problem with brooding among their members, and now it was dragging Schwarz (or at least part of it) down. In a place like this, that was unacceptable ( ... )

He didn't even have time to react before Schuldig backhanded him roughly, sending him sprawling on the bed, half of the open bottle of pills spilling onto the cover as he dropped it. He looked up, blinking blearly and touched his cheek, seeming not quite able to connect to what had happened.

Had... had he been meant to find Schuldig? He had, hadn't he? In the shower. It just seemed so foggy now. Since... since...

He glanced at the pills and shuddered, shaking his head as he looked at Schuldig. "Sorry. I... I forgot." How many had he taken? Not enough to kill him at least. Probably not enough to make him really ill, but still enough to make him terrified about what he'd nearly done.
