Day 30: Men's Showers (Third Shift)

Feb 17, 2008 23:46

The lockdown had been interesting. The fact that the staff had enough power to put down a rebellion that quickly and then lock people into their rooms just as fast was something of a feat to be admired. Their efficiency would have been much more impressive if Okita had been on the other side of it, however. As it stood, he had to keep his ( Read more... )

His roommate hadn't been up to much conversation, which was a pity, but at least they were being let out again to... shower?

Still shameless about his 'body' as always, Xelloss found himself a nice spot and started with the shampooing. For some reason, he really liked shampooing his hair. It was a pleasant sensation overall. Not quite to match eating, but close. He did wish they had baths of some sort here, since he'd never actually had one in a human body and was curious. But the showers were fine.

He hummed a little as he cleaned.

Much as Farfarello usually hated cheerful people, this particular situation called for a little more tolerance than usual because people who managed to maintain cheerfulness while naked in the presence of other naked males, well, probably they wouldn't be too embarrassed to help a guy out. Taking a spot next to some guy who was actually humming, Farfarello spoke brusquely, "Hey. Can you get the water to a reasonably warm temperature for me? I can't feel hot and cold well, I could end up burning myself."

Though he was healing faster than was normal, thanks to this place, Farfarello's torso and face were still a bit of a technicolour masterpiece today. His broken ribs were an especially lurid display of purple and black, but there were also scattered bruises all over the rest of his chest and back as well as even his arms and legs. The cuts on his forehead and shin were closed up now and healing cleanly, but they were still quite red and surrounded by their own sets of green and yellow bruises.

Xelloss was decidedly not shy, as he glanced over at the man, actually blinking openly at the wounds Farfarello was decorated with. Then he smiled again. "That's very impressive! How did you manage that?"

Xelloss fiddled cooperatively with the water controls next to his own. The sadistic urge to turn it hot as possible was stymied by the fact that the man's problem in the first place apparently stemmed from his inability to feel it well. Besides, so long as Xelloss wanted to play up his own innocence, seeing how long it took a fellow patient to notice he was cooking would probably not go over well.

After running a hand under it, he said, "That should be fine!" It was approximately the same temperature as Xelloss's own water. He went back to his own small bathing area and returned to lathering things, working on a leg at the moment. Considering that they only washed these bodies once a week, it seemed like a good idea to get as much out of the shower session as he could. It was enjoyable, anyway.

"Brawl with some idiot who tried to raid my room while I was still in it." Saying it was a brawl was only about half the truth--it'd started out looking much like a brawl, but it had been in truth a fight to the death. Farfarello, obviously, had won and Caim was gone from the Institute. Not that anyone seemed to have noticed or cared that he'd vanished.

Nodding in Xelloss' direction, Farfarello muttered a vague, "Thanks," then stepped under the water. While he couldn't discern that the water was anything other than "not cold," he could feel his muscles responding to the heat and relaxing. Good. He was still stiff in places from the bruises and otherwise abused muscles. "Name's Farfarello. You?"

"Well, that is idiotic," Xelloss agreed. Not that someone had tried to raid Farfarello's room in particular, since he didn't know the man, but rather trying to blindly raid any room without being sure of who or what was in it. There was no sense in asking who had won the encounter, considering that Farfarello was here and walking. At best, the other individual had probably been chased away, at worst disabled or killed. Definitely idiotic!

Xelloss nodded back politely at the thanks, and rinsed off his leg while Farfarello started his own bath. "I am Xelloss!" he answered cheerfully, leaving off the 'mysterious priest' in part on a whim and in part thanks to all the persons from Red Orb arriving lately. If the trend continued, he was very likely to go from 'mysterious priest' to 'well-known and easy to identify priest.' That was only a set-back at any rate, but one reason why it was a good idea to be friendly to anyone who didn't already know him. Actions spoke louder than words, after all.

"Someone had just left the room, I assume he saw that." But of course, the rooms had two residents, and even with the chaos of the fieldtrip there was no guarantee that both residents hadn't made it back. "Whatever. Wounds heal." Death seemed to be mutable in this place, as well, but Caim had not been brought back. Good thing, that--Farfarello wasn't yet up to another brawl like that.

Farfarello wondered why he always had to shower on the days he was most physically fucked up. Well, yesterday would have been worse than today, in that respect, but still. It was awkward, minding his broken ribs while trying to get properly clean. Not to mention the stiffness in his muscles limiting his flexibility all around.

"Unless you die from them! Or lose a whole body part," Xelloss nodded and smiled some more. Farfarello seemed to be having a little trouble, but offering to help might result in annoyance. He didn't get the feeling that Farfarello was pleased at needing help in starting his shower, though the 'thanks' indicated that he wasn't the sort to hold a grudge over receiving a favor.

Then again, Xelloss had washed everything he could think of and reach on himself, and while simply standing under the warm water was comfortable, it could get boring. Avoiding annoying others had never been his strong suit, anyhow. "Do you want a hand with your back?"

"Well, yeah. But I didn't. Not lately, anyway." Farfarello idly tapped the empty socket where his left eye once had been; the wound was long since scarred over, though quite messily. He did not wear his eyepatch in the shower since it was bad for the leather.

The offer of help was unexpected, but Farfarello just shrugged. "Yeah, sure. If you don't mind." He had no bodyshyness left, himself, not after spending as much time as he had in prisons and in real mental institutions. It was frustrating needing help, yes, but he wasn't so foolish or prideful as to refuse help when it was offered.

"Oh, yes. Like that!" Xelloss nodded. Compared to the more recent injuries, it was a bit less dramatic in Xelloss's opinion; it lacked the same entertaining colors. It did have the benefit of looking rather complex and old, like a knot in a tree.

Instead of verbally analyzing the different scars and bruises, Xelloss went to work. Washing someone else wasn't exactly as enjoyable as washing himself, but it was interesting. Farfarello's back was muscular yet wiry, and there were traces of old scars here and there. Keeping things politely businesslike, Xelloss stepped back when done. "All clean!"

"Appreciate it." Farfarello wasn't generally good at the "gratitude" thing, being a selfish creature by nature, but not having to ask for help was a good enough thing that he could certainly manage to work up some genuine thankfulness.

Getting the rest of himself clean was a much easier task--as long as he was careful to bend at the hips and keep his ribcage straight he could reach everything else just fine. Twisting was the risky thing, since he didn't get pain as a warning that he was stressing his healing ribs.

"You're welcome," Xelloss responded mildly. He glanced down over himself, then at the soap dispensers. Shampoo, conditioner, body soaps... he was as clean as he was going to become, and growing a bit wrinkly besides. It seemed having warm water wash over you was enjoyable only to a certain point. He was starting to feel somewhat waterlogged.

"I do believe I'm clean. Good luck tonight!" Xelloss stepped out from under the water, intent on heading out to dry off. After all, dripping in one's clothes wasn't enjoyable either. "It was interesting meeting you."

It didn't take Farfarello much longer to finish his shower, either, though he lingered a little bit longer than strictly necessary in order to let his muscles loosen up just a bit more.

He nodded at Xelloss' parting words, replying vaguely with "You, too." Whether he meant it was interesting meeting Xelloss or was replying to the 'good luck' sentiment was unclear.

He had no desire nor intention to waste the entire shift in the showers, however, so he soon headed out to dry off and find something else to do.
