Nightshift 29: Experimental Treatments Laboratory

[ Entering from here.]The room had a strong sterile scent on the air as he entered into it, and Yuber’s expression grimaced in distaste as his gaze roamed over the area. There were cabinets lining the wall that appeared to be filled with bottles, dozens of odd utensils and metal tables and benches filling the room. It was rather interesting to see, ( Read more... )

His eyes lighting, Zelnick headed towards those bottle-filled cabinets, bypassing the antique-looking glass and metal equipment. "I wonder," he wondered aloud, "what do we have in here?" He scanned the labels-- and he grinned.

Without turning to Yuber, he asked, "Do you think a snoutfull of hydrochloric acid would stop a rat? Or an eyefull of ammonia?" He continued looking along the rows, delighting in the chemicals he saw-- especially the dangerous ones, and the ones that could become dangerous.

Yuber felt a slender brow rise up curiously as the little human darted off further into the room, and headed directly over towards the cabinets. The utensils on the bench area drew the knight’s attention as he moved over to see what useful items were available. Peering down at what appeared to be glass cups and round little dishes, Yuber feigned an interested sound while he continued to look for useful items.

The words Zelnick spoke meant nothing to the knight, and as he peered curiously down at the microwave, he wondered just what the object was as he murmured. “If I knew what the items you’re speaking about were then I could make an educated guess, but as it stands, those items are unknown to me.”

"Hmm..." Zelnick examined the lock on the door. It looked like it could be broken... and what do you know, he had a nice big blunt flashlight to hit it with. "Hydrochloric acid is the stuff in your stomach that dissolves food. It'll burn through pretty much anything, and it's toxic when mixed with... uh... well, it can be toxic with some other chemicals. Ammonia's an irritant, and toxic when mixed with oxidizing agents. And I do believe I saw some potassium nitrate in there-- saltpeter." His voice was quite enthusiastic; with a scientist parent, this was the sort of stuff he had learned growing up, and the prospect of having something explosive or burning was quite appealing. (Though he wasn't familiar with everything he saw...)

"This might be loud," he warned, and smashed the butt of the flashlight against the lock a few times before it gave way. Zelnick pulled the remains of the lock away and pushed into the room.

Yuber’s attention drifted away from the metal box before him and back over to Zelnick as they explained the concept. Human’s had such a dangerous substance within them? While he took on the human appearance he was anything but human. He wondered if Usopp would be interested in such substances while considering the uses they could be put to. If they managed to make some form of projectile weapon, then it could prove to be rather useful - that wasn’t to mention the potential use Zelnick could provide considering their knowledge on the substances.

Pulling away from the bench spaces, Yuber followed in behind Zelnick after they entered into the next room.

[Back from storage]

Zelnick grabbed the bag and followed Yuber back out, glancing around. There were a couple doors opposite of where they had come in... and with the success the equipment room had netted them, there couldn't be any harm in trying another room, could there?

He went to one of the doors and examined the doorknob. It wasn't very secure... a few hits from the flashlight would probably break it entirely, same as the supply closet.

"I'm going to try to get into this room," he told Yuber; upon testing, the doorknob did break entirely. He grinned and forced the door open.

“Follow me” Yuber murmured as he gestured for Zelnick to follow him. The faster they returned back to his quarters the better. He didn’t wish anything to happen to the items they’d managed to gain this evening.
