Nightshift 29: East Wing South Hall 1-B

Jan 18, 2008 18:59

Having eaten, Kagura was feeling much better, but her mind was still uneasy.  All she really had was a room number, M14, though no idea how to get there.  The rooms she'd passed by all had F numbers on them.  What if the M ones were on the other side of the building?!  What if she couldn't find Hatori's office ( Read more... )

Momo quietly padded her way into the hall just outside the women's block. She was to meet Sparda here to get Signum's sword back. She scanned the area and didn't see the tall man, just a pair of kids.

The shinigami moved across the hall so she''d have the protection of the wall covering her injured shoulder. Keeping her right hand gripping the sheet across her kimono, Momo waited for Sparda.

When Sparda spotted Momo he smiled at her, approaching carrying both swords. His own was held in his hand, and the other secured in a make-shift belt he'd made from his sheet.

"Momo," She was right where she said she would be, and attired in her non-standard clothing as well.

The tall man was easy to spot when he entered the hall, drawing the shinigami's attention away from the door two men that had been talking about their queen's arrival had disappeared behind. She gave Sparda a small bow.

"Sparda-san," she said. "I appreciate your promptness."

She looked over the sword in his hand as well as Signum's broadsword. Did he make a pact with the alchemists or had he come by his sword through means similar to her and the katana sitting on her hip? This was not the time to ask such things.

Sure enough, it was Vice Captain Hinamori. Rukia didn't recognize the man with her, but they seemed to be making an exchange of some sort.

She approached, careful to keep her flashlight pointing toward the ground, and stood at a respectful distance. "Vice Captain," she said quietly, and waited to be acknowledged.

"I would not wish for you or your friend to wander around without a weapon," Sparda pulled the sword from his belt and offered it, hilt-first, to Momo, bowing slightly as he did so.

Momo glanced briefly over at Rukia when she approached, but did not address her yet. Her focus was Sparda and she took the sword from the tall man when offered. Being a little more than a foot shorter than the shinigami herself, Momo hefted the blade up and rested the flat of the blade on her shoulder allowing it to extend behind her neck and other shoulder. She felt off-balance, but with only one usable arm, it was the best she could do.

"Thank you for taking good care of it," she said to Sparda, nodding her head as she was fairly certain any attempt at a bow would cause her to fall over. "Good luck tonight and should you decide Arts & Crafts is for you, there is a place for you."

She turned toward Rukia then. "Kuchiki-san," she said, her voice still quiet. "Your path will take you into the main kitchen and into the cold storage. Look for a piece of the floor in there that is a bit different in color. Your destination lies beneath."

Rukia watched the exchange, wondering why the man had given Vice Captain Hinamori a weapon that was clearly too large for her, and when she had her own weapon already. It was none of her business, though, so she didn't ask.

When Vice Captain Hinamori spoke to her, Rukia bowed, then stood straight, listening carefully. "Through the kitchen, cold storage. Thank you." Now that she had gotten a closer look at the other shinigami, Rukia noticed an angry wound over one eye. "V-Vice Captain, are you all right? Do you require healing?"

"I shall keep that in mind, Momo," He offered her another smile before taking a step back.

Sparda still needed to wait for Lady Emma to appear. He doubted Momo would have left the female patient block had there been any 'monsters' in there that could have attacked the more vulnerable patients, so there was no need for him to leave his current spot to make sure. However, if she did not arrive soon he would have to go look.

Momo was silent for a long moment after Rukia's question. Her body was inconsequential as she was already dead. Rukia's was as well; Momo was convinced that the other shinigami had indeed been executed even if Rukia remembered it differently. She'd never spent much time at all with Rukia in the Academy, so she wasn't sure how intelligent the woman was, but surely she should have come to the same conclusion Momo had. Perhaps she was better at putting up the 'we'll all get out of here' face for the humans and other souls that hadn't realized their predicament and the truth of their location ( ... )

Rukia didn't really know Vice Captain Hinamori personally, but the latter was a good friend of Renji's, and whenever Rukia had seen her in Seireitei, the other woman was often smiling. This emotionless look on her face was somewhat frightening, but Rukia couldn't very well go against a Vice Captain's words (unless it was Renji, but that was different).

"Are... U-understood," she said, bowing again. "Please... be careful, Vice Captain."

She watched the other shinigami leave, then turned to the man. "I'm sorry to have interrupted you. I must be going, though. Be safe tonight." With a good idea of how to get into the basement, Rukia headed down the hallway and toward the sun room.
