Nightshift 29: Sun Room

[[From hereSubZero cautiously stepped inside the sun room, "Do you see anything?" SubZero was trained to operate in darkness, but even with the light coming in over head HK still had an advantage over him when it came to detecting things ( Read more... )

Shrouded by darkness, the large construct stood perfectly still in the far off corner where he had been placed just as night began. The bio weapon's objective for the night was simple: Guard all doors from any targets that attempted to gain entrance. Returning the targets to their designated areas was imperative.

At the rising and falling tones of speech, the construct opened its blank, empty eyes and scanned the area, easily spotting two targets entering from the far off door.

HK didn't even have to scan the room to notice the fairly gigantic heat signature near the far wall. "Affirmative: Yes. One very big meatbag on the opposite end of the room that thinks it's going to ambush something." Silly meatbag. You can't hide from an HK unit.

Well, at least they knew about it in advance this time, SubZero started moving, weaving around the furniture in the room to avoid giving the creature a clear charging path.

They would have to face it, but right now they had no idea what it could do.

Without any further delay, the construct took a step from where it had been placed, the ground shuddering in its wake as it approached. The furniture in the room did little to pose as obstacles, but the construct had no logical reasoning to destroy it just yet.

HK drew his second scalpel and carefully advanced, tracking the target meatbag. Against all reasonable, sane expectations, HK was not in the least intimidated. This would be fun.

"You're sure this thing is a 'meatbag'?" SubZero had never known any warrior that literally shook the earth when he moved other than the earth god.

He paused where he was, on the other side of a table and some chairs.

Sensors showed nearing target to be armed with a curved blade otherwise classified as a 'scalpel'. Weaponry otherwise more suited for cutting the muscle and flesh of organisms, level of damage--minimal. Tyrant did not falter, continuing his slow, thunderous approach almost as if his weight prohibited the construct from moving at any greater speed.

"Irritation: My occupation depends on being able to correctly identify meatbags, meatbag." This thing stomping resolutely towards them glowed appropriately in the infrared, so it was at least meatbag-ish, if not actually a meatbag.

Each step was very obvious with the way the room shook. "If so, that's one heavy meatbag," But it didn't appear to be able to move very quickly, so that was something, at least.

Once within leaping range of the first target, the large construct halted and momentarily remained unmoving, as if considering. Yet before either target could take advantage of this momentary lapse, the construct's lunged impossibly fast at the first target. Despite the small blade, sensors showed the organism to be vulnerable, it would be illogical to ignore this.

HK had a slight advantage over the average meatbag in this situation with his infrared vision, but he certainly wasn't expecting his target to suddenly attack so swiftly. He only just managed to dive out of the way, aiming a swipe at an artery on the meatbag's leg.

It was almost unfortunate that he could calculate the force generated by something that massive, moving that fast. If he had been at all sane, it would have definitely put a restraining bolt on his enthusiasm for a fight.

SubZero wasted no time once the thing started to attack, HK had already jumped out of the way, but SubZero still lifted the nearest chair up to throw it at the thing.

Sure, it wasn't quite as effective as an ice blast, but he did not want to be weakened by having numb hands against this enemy.

He followed up the throw by running towards the large, heavy humanoid. As much as he really didn't want to get into melee with it, he also couldn't do much from a distance.

Tyrant did not falter even as the the first target attempted to inflict damage to his leg. Readings showed the attack to be unsuccessful as the small blade was unable to cut through the construct's thick overcoat. The muscles remained intact and functioning. The large construct slowed his pace once more as he raised a hand and swung heavily at the nearest target approaching.

HK was disappointed to not feel the blade cut properly through anything, as it should have. So, the coat was armored. The head wasn't! HK took the moment while the large meatbag was targeting SubZero to aim at its eyes, drawing his arm back as quickly as possible to keep his own limbs from becoming a target.

SubZero jumped back as Tyrant swung at him, trying to determine the best way to attack it. It no doubt hit very hard, and SubZero did not want to get in and fight with his hands.

It looked like he would have to use his ice weapon after all, but SubZero wanted to wait till HK distracted it.

Once again, Tyrant did not falter even as the blade sunk deep into his eye, stopping just short of puncturing his skull--if such a thing were possible. If anything, the construct might as well have not even noticed the attack. Yet now readings showed the target to now be unarmed and without warning, the large 'man' shifted his attention and lunged again, adrenaline pumping through his veins.
