DAY 29: Arts and Crafts (second shift)

Jan 11, 2008 13:49

When Kyon entered the Arts and Crafts room, he was not only feeling physically fatigued, but mentally as well. The last few shifts had not gone well at all. Kyon had spent the better part of the last shift staring at his food, wondering what the hell he was going to do about the coming night. Aidou's intentions had to be anything but good, and he'd ( Read more... )

MOMO couldn't help but frown as the Head Doctor's voice came over the intercom. Not only on account of the little slip in words, but also since he mentioned more people would be arriving overnight. The fact that they kept people trapped in a place like this was bad enough; forcing people into nightshift right when they woke up was just plain cruel ( ... )

Meeting Luke and showing him Tetris had definitely been a nice break from the normal heaviness Sora had to deal with while in this place, so he was feeling pretty good when he left the Game Room at the shift change. He could have stayed there, but he was curious to see what was going on in the other rooms. It was kind of strange not having everyone packed into one room, and he wasn't sure which way was better ( ... )

In all honesty, she had thought this would be easier. Unfortunately, as MOMO quickly discovered, the little sewing project was going to be a little difficult. At the moment, her main problem was with the scissors, which clearly weren't made for cutting fabric-- in fact, MOMO had to wonder if they'd cut anything without some effort. But, she was determined to get it done, and even if it took more than one day to finish, she wasn't going to give up.

She had managed to cut out a couple pieces and had started on another when someone called her name, which caused her to pause and look up. As soon as she saw who it was, however, she couldn't help but smile.

"Hi, Sora!" she greeted him as he hurried over. It was nice to see someone she knew. "How have you been?"

The moment he reached the table, Sora fell into a seat across from the girl, smile remaining as MOMO returned the greeting. She definitely seemed to be in a better mood than the last time he had spoken to her, which was a huge relief.

"I've been good!" he responded quickly, looking over her work as he spoke. He wasn't entirely sure what she was trying to make, but he had never being very good at the arts and crafts thing as a kid. Kairi was, though -- he wondered if she had ever tried to bead together a necklace in this place. Did they even have the materials for that?

"How about you?" he asked, leaning forward in his seat eagerly. While she seemed better, he knew that some people were good at hiding what they were really going through. "Doing better since last time we talked?" He could only hope that she had realized that all of that hadn't been her fault.

The realian was happy to hear that Sora was all right. Though she could've assumed as much by looking at him, it was always reassuing to hear someone confirm it themself ( ... )

"I know what you mean," Sora responded as MOMO explained herself. It was easy to help someone else when they were suffering, but going through it yourself was completely different. He couldn't imagine how it felt to go through Special Counseling, and he hoped he never had to find out. He was pretty sure he wouldn't handle it very well, but he at least knew that he had friends who could help him through it.

He was glad that he had been there to help MOMO, and that some other patients had contributed as well, by the sound of it. He didn't really recognize the names, but he assumed they belonged to some of the others who had gotten caught up in that fight.

Sora knew better than to dwell on such a heavy subject for too long, especially since it seemed like MOMO had gotten through it. So, with that out of the way, he once again took note of the fabric she was attempting to cut. "What are you trying to make?" he asked, leaning forward in his seat to get a better look.

MOMO was grateful when Sora opted to change the subject, and it likely showed in her expression. Although she still wished she could somehow change what had happened, the important thing was that Sora and the others were all right. They held no grudges, so she was determined to move on as well.

"Oh, it's supposed to be a stuffed animal once it's finished." Come to think of it, did this place have something to actually... stuff a stuffed animal with? Well, even if they didn't, she'd think of something once she got that far. "I know it's kind of silly, but I have one like it back home. And it'd be kind of nice to have a familiar face around." Even if it was a face that couldn't talk. Or, as was the case with U-kun, shoot lasers from its eyes.

"Are you going to try and make anything, Sora?" she asked, canting her head slightly. They were in the Arts and Crafts room, after all.

A stuffed animal? Well, that was interesting, considering who he had met at brunch. Sora sat up in his seat excitedly once she had explained. "Really? That's funny, because I just met this really nice girl named Bridget earlier today and she had her stuffed bear with her. The institute let her keep him for some reason... I guess because he isn't dangerous or anything? It was really neat, though ( ... )

"That does sound a little strange," MOMO commented once he explained about the girl he had met earlier. "It was nice of them to let her keep her bear, though. I bet that made her happy, too." It was actually surprising to hear that the institute had allowed Bridget, whoever she was, to keep something of hers. Although, as Sora had already suggested, that was likely because a stuffed animal wasn't much of a threat. Normally ( ... )

Half her size? Sora's eyes widened as he tried to imagine a stuffed animal that big. It was probably the same size as Donald, in that case! He figured that probably made it a lot easier to cling to and hug, but it had to be kind of heavy, didn't it? He'd had stuffed animals as a kid, but they had always been pretty small.

As MOMO continued to explain the rabbit's name and its darker side, Sora imagined his expression was becoming even more shocked. No wonder they hadn't let her keep it! That sounded pretty dangerous, though lasers might just be helpful in a place like this. How much damage could they do?

"Wow, that's... pretty impressive," he said once he finished. "Does... he just shoot lasers at whoever he wants, or does someone having to control it?" It all sounded kind of scary, to be honest. A stuffed animal like that probably belonged in Halloween Town. If he ever saw Jack again, he would have to tell him about it.

"Oh, he does it on his own. Ahh, the ones that are programmed with their own A.I. do, I mean. The majority of them are normal, harmless stuffed animals, but there were some that had their own A.I. so they could interact with people. I'm sorry I didn't clarify that sooner." Still, MOMO couldn't help but giggle at Sora's expression. Nothing sounded out of the ordinary to her, but to someone who didn't already know about U-kun, she could only imagine how it sounded.

"Actually, the lasers really come in handy. I used to have an attack that could summon a giant version of him, and he'd shoot lasers at our enemies. It was... It was actually kind of cute!" Even though she didn't particularly enjoy fighting, that was one attack she almost missed.

"Isn't there anything like that where you're from?" the realian asked after a short pause. "Something that can look harmless, but be really helpful when need be?"

So it was also controlled by A.I.? It was just like what Bridget had told him! Sora really thought that MOMO and Bridget should meet so they could discuss their different stuffed (dangerous) companions with each other. The way she explained the attack it did reminded him of the way that he summoned Stitch, but Stitch was definitely not stuffed.

He didn't really know if something like that could be cute, but maybe it would be for girls? He wondered what Kairi would have thought of all this. Maybe he would tell her about it when he saw her tonight, if he got the chance.

At the question, Sora leaned back in his seat and thought it over. Other than Stitch... "Well, I guess there's Donald," he said, laughing to himself. He was glad his friend wasn't there to hit him over the head with his staff.
