Day 29: Arts & Crafts Room

Jan 04, 2008 12:29

Arts and Crafts. Why in the name of all things sane and logical had that blasted nurse decided he looked like he'd enjoy Arts and Crafts?! HK made his irritation known very loudly and at great length to the meatbag, who persisted in her belief that he'd feel better after a chance to creatively express himself ( Read more... )

{ Waiting for Naminé, but free to pester in the meantime. .... Sorawhereareyou. ;_; )

The arts and crafts room. Kairi wasn’t entirely thrilled with this, but what could she do? Drawing was fun, at least.

Waving goodbye to the nurse who had escorted her, Kairi took a seat at an empty table and reached out for a piece of paper. Frowning, she stared down at the blank sheet, wondering what she would draw. Shrugging, she quickly reached out and grabbed at a random red crayon, and began just drawing whatever came to mind.

Sadly, all that came out on her paper was small hearts. Her mind was elsewhere.

Where was Sora? Kairi let out a sad sigh and closed her eyes. It felt like forever since she had seen him - they were to travel around tonight, at least. She would speak to him then.

The Arts and crafts room! Naminé was always happy to come here; this was the one room that soothed her. Perhaps it was the familiar scent of paper and crayons that she always smelled in here that calmed her down. Either way, she knew that she had no visitors; even in this world, she was all alone.

Well, the file did say that Luxord was her cousin. But he was nowhere to be found, and Naminé wanted to make more copies of her map now that Nami had updated it.

Of course, that thought flew from her mind as she saw Kairi sitting quietly by herself, looking rather... sad. It worried her, so Naminé went to her side at once.

"Hello, Kairi," She smiled, taking a seat next to the other girl. Kairi was drawing too, though she had nothing but hearts on her paper. It didn't seem to match with her Other's mood, though.

"... Is something wrong?"

The voice of her Nobody drew Kairi out of her silent reverie; her eyes snapping open seconds later. As her gaze fell upon the blonde haired girl, the copper haired princess couldn’t help but smile. “Hey, Naminé! Long time no talk, huh?”

The question about her well being made her smile falter only slightly, before it fell all together. “It’s nothing I can’t deal with. I mean … I … haven’t seen Sora or Riku in forever. It’s been days since I’ve seen Riku, I don’t even think he’s here anymore. And if he is … why would he avoid me on purpose? I’m one of his best friends, aren’t I? And I haven’t seen Sora in a while either, but at least I know he’s here. I guess I’m just … lonely.”

It was at this point when Kairi realized she was rambling, and suddenly her cheeks flushed as red as her hair. “Oh, sorry. I’m just talking now, aren’t I? I’m sorry to push this all on you so suddenly.”

Poor Kairi... Naminé could sympathize, in a way. She really had no right to miss Sora and Riku (it wasn't like they were her friends anyway...), but she did miss Soma. She hadn't seen him in ages... granted, she could ask Luxord to check on the boy's status, but Naminé had a feeling it was something she was better off not knowing.

"He wouldn't avoid you," She tried to comfort Kairi. That was not the Riku she knew, the one who worked so tirelessly for the sake of both his friends. "If he did make it back, I just know he's probably trying to find a way to come get the both of you."

It did seem strange though. She hadn't seen either of the Rikus around, so perhaps Kairi's hunch was correct...

"No, it's fine! If something is bothering you, you should talk to someone about it. I know... because I don't have a heart, I might not understand, but I do know what it's like to be lonely."

“I hope not. I mean … no. He wouldn’t do that. Riku wouldn’t avoid me. It would be completely unlike him … no, it wouldn’t even be Riku. It would be … something else.” Where were such dark thoughts coming from? Kairi felt a slight tingle at her fingertips, and she clenched her hands into fists, trying to dispel the feeling.

The mention of Naminé feeling lonely made Kairi’s own heart ache, and she quickly reached for a new piece of paper and a red crayon, and began to scribble once again.

Moments later, she slid the heart towards Naminé with a sheepish smile.

"Oh..." Naminé wasn't sure how to respond to such a kind gesture. She took the piece of paper with the heart and hugged it to her chest, treasuring the little doodle as if it was a heart.

"Well, when I'm with you, it's like having my heart anyway, so you already did," Naminé smiled. She did "remember" the time she spent reunited with Kairi before she came to this place, and that was good enough for her. When they got out of here, she'd be complete again.

The witch tucked the drawing into her notebook. It was a fine gift, and Naminé could only hope that she would be able to reciprocate it with the map that Nami had fixed for her.

"It's not as cute, but I have an updated map of the second floor, if you want it?" She offered, pushing the map to Kairi. "I have the first floor too, if you need it."

Kairi couldn’t help but smile as Naminé clutched the drawing to her chest and hugged it, the princess’s own heart soaring. She loved to see her friends smile, no matter what. She especially loved to see Naminé smile … for obvious reasons. “I’m glad you like it. I’m not the best artist, you got all of those skills, obviously.”

The comment about having her own heart made Kairi’s smile widen even more, her eyes bright. “We’ll be together again. I’ll show you all around Destiny Islands, and show you all of my secrets. I promise.”

The mention of the map made the princess let out a surprised “Oh!” and she nodded her head. “Yes, that would be great! I only have an old map of the first floor I got from my friend, but I don’t know if yours is more updated or anything … I’ll take one of those too if it isn’t too much trouble?” Reaching out, she grasped onto the paper map and rolled it up before sticking it in her shirt to hide it out of sight.

"I think you're really good. I had to get them from somewhere," Naminé smiled. It was true, after all. If she was Kairi's shell, then Kairi would have had to possess the art skills in the first place.

"That would be lovely! I can't wait, then." To tell the truth, Naminé already knew most of the secrets of Destiny Islands, at least, what Sora knew. But perhaps there were a few spots that Kairi had discovered on her own and kept secret. Interestingly, the only memories of Kairi that Naminé knew of were the ones that Sora had... it was sad, in a way.

"Of course it's not any trouble, Kairi," Naminé reassured the girl, sliding over the first floor map. "Just be careful, OK ( ... )

“Thank you,” the teenager said happily as she took the other map, only to place it in her shirt as well.

“The other Riku? Oh, I saw him once, but that was it. That was even before the real Riku showed up though … hm. I’m sorry I can’t be of much help.” A sad smile crossed Kairi’s face upon hearing that Naminé’s Riku - no, Soma - had vanished as well. “I’m sure he’s alright. There has to be some reason why you haven’t seen him.”

Kairi scooted her chair closer to Naminé and reached out to grasp onto the Nobody’s free hand, a soft smile crossing her lips. “Be strong, okay? Both of us. We’ll stick together no matter what. We’ll find those that are missing, and we’ll return back to our homes, and everything will be all right. Don’t worry, I’m sure Soma will come back to you someday.”

"Yes, I suppose you're right..." Naminé tried not to look upset by this news (after all, she knew she couldn't exactly be upset), but it was just sad news to hear. So if Soma had disappeared as well...

But if she looked to the brighter side of things, perhaps Soma and Riku did not simply "disappear", but "escaped". After all, if they were not here... She didn't hear any news of anyone dying, at the very least. There was enough room to hope, she supposed.

Naminé was brought back to reality when she felt a warm hand touch hers, and she returned Kairi's smile. "Yes, you're right. I'm sorry, it's just... the second time he's gone for awhile. But he came back before, so I'm sure he'll come again."

“Don’t worry,” Kairi said with a soft smile, her other hand lifting to hold gently onto Naminé’s smaller one, holding it between both of her hands. Closing her eyes, the once princess let out a soft sigh and began to speak once again. “No matter where we may go, friends will always be together. We’re always connected, no matter what. Our hearts are always there, beating as one with the other.” Suddenly, Kairi’s eyes opened, and she grinned. “Have you ever heard of the red string of fate legend? It’s said that we are all tied together with a red string to those we are fated to meet.”

Giggling softly, Kairi pat Naminé’s hand and winked. “Maybe Soma is your other half of the red string? If so, then of course you’ll meet each other again. The red string can overcome any boundary.”

Releasing the blonde’s hand, the copper headed girl smiled and reached for another piece of paper, and began doodling once again. “Everything will be okay. I know it.”

Red string of fate? This was something new, and Naminé tilted her head as Kairi explained it. It seemed like a sweet story, actually; Naminé liked to think that there was something binding her to another person. Of course, when Kairi suggested that Soma was the "other half", she blushed horribly under Kairi's hand.

"Y-You think?" It sounded like the paopu legend in a sense, but without the romantic parts. But ... it was a nice thought, actually, and Naminé felt better when Kairi mentioned it.

Soma did return to her once before, when it was impossible...

"That's such a nice story, Kairi," Naminé beamed. "I think... I think I want to find some red felt. Until Soma gets back, I'll wear it on my finger."

Kairi couldn’t help but grin when Naminé blushed, a soft giggle escaping her lips soon after. “Anything’s possible. If he came back once before, he might always come back … and if he does, it just might be the red string of fate. It draws two together forever and ever and ever.”

The red felt idea was adorable. Kairi lifted her head and turned to Naminé with a bright smile. “That’s a cute idea! I wonder if they have any around … hopefully the nurses won’t think you’re doing something suspicious.” Nodding her head and shooting the closest nurse a quick glance, Kairi smiled and let out a dreamy sigh. “I wonder who’s at the other end of my red string. It’s fun to daydream about all the possibilities.”

Though, at this point, she couldn’t help but have someone in mind …

Blushing quickly, Kairi scoffed and went back to drawing … whatever.

"It's just string," Naminé shook her head, obviously ignorant of the other applications one could use string for. She left Kairi just for a moment to go and search through the various supplies, finding exactly what she was looking for after throwing aside some colored pencils and paper. She returned, string in hand and some safety scissors.

"..." Naminé could already tell that cutting the string would be an arduous task, but she did her best anyway, slowly cutting away at the string with the dull blades.

"Who do you think is at the end of your red string, Kairi?" Naminé asked, out of pure curiosity. She, of course, was just curious and had no idea that Kairi was thinking of the very subject. "Why don't you tie a string around your finger too?"

Kairi watched with silent curiosity as Naminé moved around the room grabbing what she needed, and when she returned with the string, she couldn’t help but smile ( ... )

A friendship ring! Naminé never had anything like that before, so she was more than happy to go along with Kairi's suggestion. It made her really happy, actually, because this was the sort of thing Naminé always wished she could do; just sit down and talk with friends. Of course, this wasn't exactly the way that Naminé wanted her wish granted, but... she supposed complaining wouldn't have done anything.

"That's a wonderful idea!" She smiled, cutting some string for Kairi as well. They were of similar height and size, so she figured that the same amount she used would be enough. Naminé held Kairi's string up first, motioning for the other girl to put her hand forward.

"Here, I'll tie it for you. And then, maybe you could help tie my string on?"
