Day 29: Music Room

Jan 04, 2008 08:56

Quatre was thankful that his "name" wasn't called to be visited, but there was always the next shift. He knew he probably should have hunted down his comrades to see if they were safe this shift as well and if they could think of a plan to escape. It was strange being in captivity, Quatre had never been caught by OZ and when one of the remaining ( Read more... )

Jack regretted his decision to visit the music room. At the time, it had struck him as the kind of place he could meet women. He had been having such success at lunch (or so he told himself) with Nami that he must still have that charm the ladies so loved. It only seemed right that he go off and find as many lovely ladies as he could to share his gift with. It was only fair, wasn't it?

Instead, all he saw were a couple of guys chatting and no women. How lame was that? Still, he'd wait it out for a little bit, see if anyone interesting showed up, then mosey back to someplace a bit less...musical.

Beatrix entered the music room, limping thanks to the air cast on her ankle, and cast her gaze about the room. Despite not having seen BB, which she was becoming less and less certain would happen, she had enjoyed her conversation with SubZero. The assassin was interesting, someone she could feel kinship with, except she was retired and once she had reclaimed her daughter and destroyed her captors and those that held BB, she would be done killing.

The instruments held no interest to her, but she decide to leaf through the cds available out of mild curiosity at how horrid these people's tastes were. She knelt down by the boxes, noting the presence of the rugged0looking blonde man nearby, but didn't really give him any of her attention. Well, not any more than any paranoid former assassin would give another person that gave off the combat-capable vibes.

Jack noticed Beatrix and arched an eyebrow as he looked her over. She wasn't bad looking...a little older, perhaps, or one of those "stressed out on life" types. Didn't change the fact she had a nice ass (and yes, Jack could tell through the sweatclothes; he was that awesome, he reminded himself).

Now, how was he going to go about arranging to tap that....

Some men never could master the art of checking a woman out without being noticed. It seemed this man was yet another that had missed that important life lesson. Or perhaps he had and was decent enough at the technique and she'd just gotten too good to be looked over without it registering on her radar.

Beatrix's lips curled up into a bit of a smirk as she continued to look through the boxes of music. She wondered if he was just the looking type or if he actually had the balls to talk to her. Not that he would get anywhere, but she needed a little amusement in her life to keep her form killing anything that moved that wasn't her daughter.

Ugh... Journey. They had six Journey albums.

Jack stroked his stubbled chin and took a step forward. Well, time do go make his move and lay the charm down. Perhaps a witty comment about the musical selection was called for?

"Look all you like, sweetheart, but I don't think you'll find any Britney Spears in there." He smirked and put his hands in his pockets, rocking smugly on his heels. "Unless you ain't looking for that."

Either this chick was into that whole teeny-bobbing crap or she would set him straight and have actual taste in music. He'd wait to see her reaction and move on from there.

"I never was a fan of the Mickey Mouse Club, but I'm not surprised she's got a following. She's the type that'll let it go to her head and she'll end up drugged out, stuck in rehab while her baby's slimy daddy uses him to pick up chicks," the Bride replied smoothly, not looking up at the man.

"But far be it for me to say such things about your dream girl." She then glanced up at him, a bit of a teasing smirk on face. "Unless I'm mistaken and you actually have a sense of aesthetics."

Jack scoffed playfully and laughed. "Do I look like a guy with a sense of aesthetics?" True, when he actually took the time to kemp his appearence, Jack could look any part he wanted to play. However, he didn't see the point of shaving too closely or managing the hair that was a bit out of control while incarcerated. Besides, chicks dug the rugged guys and oh, did he look ever so rugged and sexy. This lady was probably doing her best to keep from ripping off her shirt as he spoke to her. It was admirable, her self restraint.

Ego boosting aside, Jack knew it wasn't going to be THAT easy to get what he wanted from her. Had to start simple, with introductions. He nodded to her and continued the amicable show. "The name's John Trick. What's yours, babe?"

"Of course not," Beatrix replied to his question. "But one can always hope hell will freeze over."

She tilted her head at him, amusement lingering in her eyes for a moment. This one certainly thought a lot of himself judging by the way he carried himself. She wondered if he actually had anything to back up that ego.

"You can call me Arlene."

Arlene, huh? Sounded Southern. No matter, he was good at 'aping' (as he had so nicely described it to lovely Sally, the Plantation owner during the civil war) their customs. Hell, whether or not he had actually cared one way of the other didn't change that he had served as a Confederate captain. Not that he could tell Arlene any of that. She didn't need to know he was a bit older than he looked.

"Arlene. What a pretty name." For trailer trash. "What kind of music do you like, Arlene?"

Beatrix snorted. "Like hell it's a pretty name," she stated and rolled her eyes. "Family name."

"I like classic rock, a little bit of 80s hair bands as well as the koto," she said offhandedly. She managed to find a Guns and Roses album and flipped it over to read the back a bit before putting it back and standing up to her whole six feet of height. "And you?"

Jack shrugged. "I've heard a bit of everything. It depends on my mood."

Classic rock. Maybe they could talk Stones or Zepplin. She was holding a Guns and Roses album--perhaps that could work too. "Hey, which one is that?" He motioned to it. "Some of their stuff wasn't too bad. Before Axel went off the deep end, anyhow."

He scratched the back of his neck. "'Welcome to the Jungle' has a pretty sweet guitar riff, if nothing else."

"Appetite for Destruction," the Bride replied. "Not bad, but I prefer Use Your Illusion I."

She shrugged and leaned back against the wall, crossing her arms at her waist after adjusting the thick bandages on her right hand. "Jungle does have some nice guitar work as well as Paradise City. My favorite is November Rain, though. It's a treat to hear in concert."

"Can't say I've had the honor." the Fable stroked his chin some more. "But I'm gonna take you at your word and assume you would know these things." He winked and crouched down beside Beatrix. "So, what else do they got in this box of wonder, eh? Anything by Robert Plant?"

"None that I saw," Beatrix replied. "The selection is worse than that of a used cd store in a college town."

She knew way too much about music thanks to Billy's record store, her record store, but she didn't feel like drawing on her knowledge from her attempted escape from her reality. "What do you like to do for fun, John?" She brushed her hair back from her face as she spoke, moderate curiosity in her tone.

It was still too early in their 'relationship' for Jack to reply with, "You. All night long." Or at any rate, too early and he was too sober, though he would make that Limey bastard pony up his whiskey somehow.

Instead, he settled on a more generic response. "I like to take chances, babe. Dangerous chances."

Oh man, was he ever suave. She was probably beside herself with feminine curiousity.

Beatrix barely kept herself from snorting and laughing out loud. This man was so hilariously bad at picking women up, she wondered if he'd ever gotten anyone other than one he could afford to lay with him. Nevermind, there were women pathetic enough to fall for this shit. Regardless, the Bride was highly amused.

Her lip quirked in a bit of a smirk. "Dangerous chances only really come to dangerous men," she replied. "Are you a bad boy, John?"
