Day 29: Cafeteria, Brunch

Dec 24, 2007 12:06

Hitsugaya left the chapel no less frustrated than before. The head doctor once again had chosen not to hide his face, yet promised he would be making an appearance at some time in the near future. He didn't like being patient, but there wasn't much choice. Either the head doctor would show his face, or he wouldn't. Renji had already seen him, ( Read more... )

Brunch, huh? That meant he was going to have to eat twice as much as he normally did, which would be a feat in itself with his appetite. Masaru was pretty sure he could pull it off, though who knew at what price. Couldn't be that bad though, right?

His tray was piled high with eggs, rice, pizza, hotdogs and smaller portions of things he had never seen but grabbed anyway out of curiosity.

He sighed as he ate. He didn't want to wait around until nightfall to look for that head Doctor bastard, but right now, it was looking like he didn't have much of a choice.

That someone turned out to be a redhaired boy who seemed to have grabbed a little too much on his plate. Actually, Luke hadn't been planning to talk to Masaru, but seeing the other boy there seemed like a good opportunity. Plus he was just glad to see that Masaru made it out alright.

"Hey, Masaru!"

Luke's selective vision also prevented him from seeing the other boy who had sat with Masaru until he actually sat down next to said boy and looked to his side.

"... Oh! Hey, sorry, were you speaking to him?" Luke asked, feeling rather stupid at the moment.

"Sure thing," Masaru consented, mouth full of food. He'd always had horrible table manners, and now was no exception.

He couldn't say much else before Luke came to sit with them. Masaru hadn't seen the guy in about a day, but he seemed to be okay enough so far, which was good, although he was honestly half-expecting news that his friend had done something incredibly stupid the night. Then again, the vice-versa was probably also true.

"Hey," he greeted casually, and added, "Who the hell says three people can't talk?"

"I'm Daimon Masaru," he introduced to the guy with the curly hair. "And this guy is Luke, um..."

What was Luke's family name, again? Had he even told Masaru what it was?

"Hah! Good point," Luke laughed. Naturally, if people were planning something or had something important to discuss, he guessed that privacy would be more important... but Masaru sure didn't seem like the type of guy who would do something like plan meetings and Keman (Kemanorel?) didn't seem like the type of person either at first glance ( ... )

"Right," Masaru nodded when Luke finished his name. "I knew that!" It wasn't exactly very convincing though; Masaru had always sucked at lying. He found it weird that Keman didn't have a surname, but instead of asking about it, he just shrugged.

He was surprised when he heard about the Head Doctor was supposed to have made an appearance. Why the hell hadn't he heard about that? Well, that was what he got for sleeping in, and it wasn't like the bastard had actually shown up, anyway.

"That sucks," he sympathized. "That guy seriously needs his ass kicked." To emphasize, he abandoned his eating for a moment to make a fist and slam it into his cupped palm.

These two seemed to sympathize with Luke's frustration. He had to admit, it was kinda nice to be able to get worked up about something and have people get worked up with you instead of yelling at you to calm down before someone gets hurt ( ... )

"Che," Masaru snorted at Keman's comment. If you asked him, that was a complete understatement. "More than a coward, he's a disgrace! He thinks he can take take so many people from their homes, attacking them and their feelings one-sidedly like this and call that being a man?! Somebody's gotta show him through force to quit screwing around with other people's lives!" he said vehemently. Shit, that guy pissed him off more than he thought possible.

"Still," he considered, "even if we do punch his lights out, how the hell are we going to get all these people back to where they belong?" That sort of thing wasn't exactly his area of expertise. Maybe they had something like the Digital Dive around? If there was a way in, there was a way out. Probably. He was getting a headache just thinking about it.

"Well, whatever. It'll definitely work out somehow. I'll make sure using my own two fists." He learned back into his chair. It was kind of hard to eat thinking of all this serious stuff.

Luke was all for killing the Head Doctor - he was sure that the issue of how to get home would be sorted out. After all, as Keman was saying, it seemed like there were some people here who were capable of traveling between worlds anyway. Once they got rid of whatever it was that was weakening them -

He stopped thinking once Keman mentioned dead people. Maybe it wouldn't have bothered Luke so much if someone important to him wasn't one of these 'resurrected' people.

"That..." He tried to search for some explanation as to how they could live after the Head Doctor went down. No, he couldn't be the one keeping them alive. No one was powerful enough to thwart death!

"... That's a good question," Luke muttered, looking very down. If they were to leave... what would happen to Asch? He didn't know much about this place, but Asch was supposed to be dead, according to almost everyone else.

Masaru only smirked at the comment. There was no way in hell he was going to sit back and watch as everyone but him took that son-of-a-bitch down. It was true that this was as much everyone else's fight as it was his, but as far as Masaru was concerned, he'd be the one to take the Head Doctor out.

"That's pretty useful," Masaru grinned. Who knew you could actually open gates like that way? If there were other people who could do it, getting home wouldn't be a problem. They just had to find a way to get everyone's abilities back. That couldn't be that hard, could it?

Of course, the grin was wiped off his face when Keman mentioned people who were supposed to be dead. Yeah, he knew all about things like that"...I don't think that's it," he said seriously. "I know this sounds crazy, but just because a guy was dead doesn't mean he has to stay that way. I've seen it before." He honestly wanted to look down at his food, but after saying something like that, he knew he had to show his confidence. It would be stupid to be unsure about ( ... )

"Really?!"

Luke seemed a bit too excited at Masaru's statement, but that was actually good news to him despite the overall tone of the other boy's voice. But if there was some way he could keep Asch alive... well, he'd do it. Luke just knew he was responsible for his original's death somehow, so he was willing to do just about anything to prevent it.

"I mean... what do you mean?" He forced himself to stay calm, not wanting to seem overexcited. Not only might that freak the others out, but he always seemed to get yelled at for getting just a little too worked up... not that Masaru or Keman seemed to have problems with that, but it was second nature for Luke to expect some sort of scolding.
