Day 28: Kitchin' Fixins

Nov 18, 2007 20:46

[ from here ]

Peony took Jade's cue, walking into Kitchin' Fixins effortlessly, as if going somewhere and stealing something was something the emperor did every day.

Oh, jackpot~

There were all kinds of things that could possibly be useful; there were tongs, and interesting-looking pokers, and skewers for meat - but who could ignore the array of ( Read more... )

Well, the man had made an entrance at least. The dangling of the little bell above the door caused the girl at the counter to jerk upright, staring at Peony with startled eyes as she desperately tried to stuff her book into an out-of-sight opening. The last thing she needed was that jerk of a manager screaming at her again. It wasn't her fault she didn't have anything to do half the time!

But thankfully, this wasn't the manager. The girl, just barely out of her teens, flashed this newcomer a smile fueled as much by relief as an attempt at customer service.

"Hello there. My name is Dana. Can I help you with anything?"

The emperor's odd getup, cowboy hat and all, didn't faze him one bit - the chance was quite high that this girl knew exactly where he had come from, anyway. Whether she knew exactly what he was doing here remained yet a mystery.

But the girl was kinda cute, and it seemed like it had been forever since Emperor Peony was able to chat up a cute chick.

He walked up to the counter, flashing a sparkling smile at the poor, poor worker. "Not a whole lot of anything, little bookworm~ Just thought I'd come in and brighten up your day before we're carted back where we came from." She'd seemed rather frantic when he had entered, after all, and he was hopefully right in assuming that it was a book she had been reading.

So it wasn't bad enough that Dana had smacked her thumb in her rush to hide her book, or that she worked for Doyelton's very own Atilla the Hun. No, now she had some crazy guy who apparently thought he was a cowboy not only hitting on her, but acting as if she was the one who should be thankful for it.

...Okay then.

"Well, I'm glad you found a way to spend your time, sir." Dana put on her sweetest, friendlies, most customer-service-based smile, and at the same moment screamed for this guy to go away with her eyes. She prided herself on this gift (though the idiots never usually got the message), which kept her boss as happy as he ever tended to get. "Was there something I could help you find today?"

It wasn't as if Peony didn't realize what this girl was saying with her eyes, but he certainly wasn't going to let on. Normally his status forced women to stick around until he got bored with them, but there actually were some that enjoyed his imperial charm. And some who even thought he was somewhat good-looking!

"Well, if you're not going to help me find true love, little beauty, I was hoping you could help me find..." He searched for something that would take a while to point out. "..a cooking pot. I mean, of course you have those, don't you? I promise I'll give you a good tip and everything~"

Flirting was so much more fun when it was done naturally! And not like this! Jade better do his thing quickly.

If there one good thing about keeping a walking chatterbox nearby it was that they brought such swimming distractions, no matter how much of a nuisance they were otherwise. Of course, his Majesty had more use than that, but charm certainly played a key role in this little escapade. And so as the latter busied himself with busying the cashier, Jade casually strolled through the aisles without much suspicion ( ... )
