Nightshift 27: Hallway outside Doctor's Offices and Group Therapy Rooms

Oct 08, 2007 20:02

[ Coming from here ]This night wasn't quite shaping up the way Malik was expecting it to. Arguing with a little kid about which way to go in their little exploration adventure was not high on his list of things he needed to do right now. Maybe deep down inside, he was slightly grateful for the company (even if he were a little irritating), though ( Read more... )

Phibrizzo followed, but had given up for the moment on the cutesy act. It wasn't buying him any points with Malik and the other seemed just as responsive when he acted how he wanted to act. And really, there was no point to keeping it up since Malik probably would know it was all sugar coating now.

"I thought you had your heart set on that other room. Why are you going this way now?"

He sneered. "Or is it that you don't actually have anywhere in mind, but would HATE to see my 'request' filled? How petty."

On second thought, Malik could very well dispense with the kid's company. How could he think otherwise for even a moment? At least Bakura was somewhat useful despite his attitude problem. But Lei was just being a useless pain in the ass.

With a scowl, he turned to look at him over his shoulder.

"Hey, I already said take the damn stairs if you want to. There's one right over there...knock yourself out." He flashed his light toward it. Maybe Lei would do them both a favor and go off on his field trip alone.

"Ah, but I want to go with you."

Hellmaster smirked and quickened his step so he was walking with Malik. "You wouldn't send a defenseless kid out into the darkness alone, would you? Especially after you nearly trampled him! My, I think you'd owe it to him to see that he stayed out of danger..."

"I didn't trample you and I don't owe you anything," Malik muttered dismissively while he started to walk again, disgruntled.

If only he had his Millennium Rod right now.. He would order this kid back to his room like the misbehaving brat that he was. He had no idea who 'Mr. Zelgadis' was, but he was beginning to think he might agree with whatever sentiments the man had about Lei.

"..."

Following once again Phibrizzo said, "And don't you want a friend, mister? You're new- that's painfully obvious. You wouldn't want to have any trouble with people here, would you?"

"If I wanted to make friends, I'll let you know, alright?" Malik sighed tiredly.

He glanced down the hallway to the left again, where he saw a series of doors. He pondered his next course of action, though Lei's blabbing was a bit distracting to him.

"And what is it exactly you want to do, then?" Hellmaster arched an eyebrow. "Go outside? Why? To try and leave?"

"The thought did cross my mind," Malik replied dryly. This child's attitude seemed to just get nastier by the minute. If Malik didn't know better, he half expected the kid to have a darker half like he did. He paused in his footsteps and glanced at him.

"Aren't you trying to get out of here, too?" It was odd how pessimistic Lei seemed about it. Or not pessimistic so much as accepting.

Phibrizzo didn't feel like answering that question directly. Instead, he responded with, "We CAN'T get out of here."

He didn't particularly want to, but it was convenient that they made it pretty hard.

Well this guy was definitely a buzz kill. Not that Malik was overly optimistic about the prospects of escape, but he was still willing to try. He turned his face away and was silent for a moment.

"I can't stay here," he muttered softly. Maybe he was not even talking to Lei.

The Mazoku lord cocked his head. Did he want to have some fun?

"Well," He said, tapping his index finger to his lips. "I have heard SOME rumors on how to get out..."

He threw his hands up and shrugged. "But you aren't interested in making friends and I only help my friends."

Malik was about to walk away to see what was beyond the hall to the left when Lei's words stopped him in his tracks. He turned around to face him as he said with widened eyes,

"What...what rumors?"

Mason was still in some considerable pain when he rounded the corner into a new hallway. There were only two people in this one, and they seemed to be talking. One was... a small child, which Mason found odd. The other was a teenager, which Mason found annoying. He didn't much like teenagers, except for George.

He wanted them gone. Looting the doctor's offices might lead to some profitable things that he didn't really feel like sharing. But he was shining his flashlight directly into their eyes, so they had to have noticed him.

"Uh... hi there," he said.

Phibrizzo glared into the light and tried to keep from sneering at this new guy who had chosen to interrupt his conversation with Malik. "Who are you?" He shielded his eyes and debated turning on the childish act again.

And in the very first moment his investment in babysitting was about to prove fruitful (possibly), they were being interrupted by a fool who would shine a beam of light right into people's eyes. With a slight frown, Malik shielded his eyes with his hand.

Since Lei already demanded the 'who' question, Malik asked the other pressing matter-

"Hey, shine that thing somewhere else, will you?"

"Fine, mate," Mason said grouchily, lowering the beam of his torch to point at their feet.

He was in no mood to be bossed around by someone who had not likely reached their double digits. Of course, this kid was probably scared and lonely and just wanted a hug. So Mason crouched down a bit so their heights were more equal, and said, "I'm Mason, little man. And what's your name?"
