Luckily for Anise, the institution's widespread blackout struck seconds after she had completed her little sewing project. The bad news was that her flashlight was--to her knowledge--still lying around on the floor of some laboratory on the second floor. She hadn't thought anything of leaving it at the time, but she now found herself regretting it

Luke peered his head in the room to see if he had the right room, which he thankfully did as he caught sight of his friend laying on the bed. It looked like there was no one else in the room, which meant...
"Yes! I'm the first one here!" Luke laughed, letting himself in. He knew it really didn't matter who came in first, as long as everyone was here, but he couldn't help it! Finally, a night where things were finally going right! OK, except for that one... interesting sight, but even then, things were going rather well for Luke. For once.
"Sorry, I got too excited about that, didn't I? So, how're you, Anise?"

it figures that Luke finally does something right and I still manage to fail at something. >:[

It was a surprise that the least reliable member of the group was the first to arrive, but Anise wasn't about to complain. He'd brought his flashlight, after all; and that meant she was finally able to see, even if just a little bit of the room at a time.
Anise shifted into a sitting position on the bed, her legs hanging over the side. "Luke! I'm glad you made it." She offered a smile, deciding to spare him a scolding on manners--just this time. "It's been pretty boring, being alone in the dark here!" And a little scary too, considering what kind of things were out there.

Speaking of the dark... yeah, why was it so dark? Luke thought Anise would have her flashlight on, at least. He walked over to the opposite bed as Anise's, placing the flashlight down so at least her area was illuminated.
"What happened to your flashlight?" If it was something like it breaking, Luke was sure they could find a new one. Well... finding someone who would be willing to part with theirs might be hard. But they'd find one!

In retrospect, it was a pretty important thing to lose. With the hallways just as dark as her room, save for the stray lights from other patients, she wouldn't be able to make her way around easily without it. But as long as she was traveling with someone else, she would be fine! Probably.

Sometimes being forgetful really worked in his favor.
"I see. Then one of the things that we'll have to do is get you a new one," Luke grinned, though he wasn't exactly sure how that would work out. But still! It was something important!
Anyway, he wasn't so dense that he wasn't completely unaware of Anise's discomfort when they talked about that, so he quickly changed the subject to the weird doll he just noticed sitting on Anise's dresser. It was half-hidden in the light, but he swore it was shaped like...
"Oh hey! Is that actually Tokunaga?" Luke leaned forward to get a better look and realized it was a bit too small. "Oh..."

When Luke pointed out the doll on the dresser, Anise beamed with pride. "Hee hee. Looks just like it, doesn't it? I made that earlier today. Makes the room look a lot less dreary, don't you think?"
One of the first things Anise had come to hate about the institute was the lack of color: the bland rooms, those insipid, decidedly uncute uniforms... she couldn't stand it! If she was going to be stuck there for any number of days, she needed something to brighten that boring prison of a room.

"Heh, you're right about that. Maybe when Dist eventually runs into us again, we can have him make this thing move too," Luke joked. The sad thing was that he was actually expecting that weird pink frilled fruit to show up sooner or later screaming at Jade for something or another. Even if he was blasted off the top of the Tower of Rem. It looked like Landels could even bring back people who died, so...
"Anyway, it does make the room look more homey," Luke grinned, setting the doll back down. Actually, in the dim light, with it grinning at him like that...
A chill went down Luke's spine and he quickly turned around to avoid facing it. "Err, anyway, where'd you find the stuff to make it? Do they have some kind of art room here or something?"

Dist... Now that she thought about it, Anise hadn't seen that guy since she first arrived. Last she saw, he was looking about as distressed as a lizard without its tail. How would a guy with no social graces be faring in a place where teamwork was essential to survive?
...Not that she cared that much.
A dubious and somewhat confused look crossed Anise's face at Luke's next question. "An art room? Well, yeah. You weren't taken there today?" Even if he had opted not to go, surely he knew about it.

Wow, it looked like he missed a lot when he decided he'd rather sleep in his room instead of actually going out and socializing. It wasn't like he didn't like people or anything! But this place was just so... just so...
"I was feeling kind of bored, so I just asked the nurse to let me sleep for the rest of the day after lunch," Luke admitted, scratching the back of his head with an embarrassed look on his face. As usual. "And I didn't really listen to what the guy on the intercom was saying, because I figured it wasn't anything important..."
Granted, an art room didn't sound like the most useful of places, but now Luke sort of felt stupid for even mentioning the fact that he sort of wasn't paying attention during the daytime.
"... Hey, I don't trust what they say, alright?!"

Then there was Anise, of course, who had been nice enough to reserve her room for their meeting. (There was still the matter of what it was going to entail, but he was certain Jade would get to that soon enough.) Guy sent a smile in her direction as well before heading to sit on the bed Luke was currently on -- after that incident in the hall, he really needed to get off of his feet.
As Peony had pointed out, Natalia's absence seemed more blatant than ever. She was the only one missing, and Guy was really starting to worry about her at this point. He knew she could take care of herself, but he couldn't help but be concerned. "I'm sure she'll show up soon," he said, hoping to reassure everyone else as well as himself.

But the talk about Natalia worried her a little. Why would they want her here? Wasn't Tear's own appearance a bad thing? Shouldn't they be trying to return home and focus on stopping her brother? The relief she had a moment ago disappeared almost instantly into a worried frown. Thinking about Van was never a wonderful thought for her. Who knows what he could be doing while they were all here ( ... )

As they filed in, she got a look at the someone else that the Colonel was referring to. "Tear! You were here, too?" There went Anise's hopes of having all four men to herself. But it wasn't so bad: someone with as much sense as Tear would be an asset to them right now. And it was a bit of a relief to know she was all right.
Anise scooted over to the left of her bed, making more space in the center. "Take a seat, everyone!" she chirped. "We've got a lot to talk about. Or did you all come here just to see my pretty face?"

But... if Natalia was here too, they hadn't found her yet. That worried Luke, but he knew Natalia could definitely handle herself in this place. She wouldn't be alone, right? If she was even here...
"Hey, hey, of course I found my way here!" Luke scowled at Jade, though obviously he didn't take his friend's comment to heart. Well, now that everyone was here, they could finally decide what they were going to do. Finally"Oh, I do have a question for everyone," Luke started off their conversation. "I know I asked this already, but I just want to know where everyone stands... What's the last thing all of you remember? I still don't know for some of you ( ... )
