Nightshift 26: F16

Anthy spent her evening in solitude, informed that her roommate was temporarily moved.  Her anxieties about the nature of this place were left free to haunt her, wrapping about her like cold prickly tendrils against her skin, against her mind.  To relieve her nerves, she wrote a letter to Utena in the journal she found, hoping that some sort of clarity or resolution would come.

She only found more solitude by the nightfall, when the lights turned off and the head doctor's voice spoke to them.  She shuddered at the voice, at the words that sounded so vaguely malicious, and she crawled under the covers of her bed, pulling them over her head like a child hiding from thunder.  She embraced herself, wishing she wasn't so alone, and the second announcement came.

So the horror was real?  Or was she hallucinating?  She was a patient, after all; maybe she was just having the same delusions as the others.  This was the real world; horrifying things like monsters didn't exist except in allegory.  That was the academy's realm.  She'd left that.  She left it!

The doors unlocked in unison, an eerie echo of a hundred bolts' tattoo in unison.  She cringed, pushing a hand over her eyes.

Let this be a dream.

She didn't want to face the duels again.  She didn't want to face someone like Brother again.  Never.
