None of it interested him, even as the riddles came easily enough. None of it was useful to him. So far nothing the monkey on the radio had offered had caught his

Cyrille's hands nervously clutched the map and flashlight she had. Being in a group was definitively much better than being alone at night. Usually, Cyrille would hate to be with others to perform a mission, but never had she felt the fear and uncertainty that she had to feel now.
She was the navigator, though. She had to show her strength, she couldn't help but feel useless otherwise. Magic wouldn't work here, so she had to improvise. She did promise Peony she'd help, and it seemed her scrutinizing paid off. Cyrille had found the stairs. Boo-yah, she could read a map!
"It seems we've found the first landmark of our..." Cyrille groaned at the next word, "quest." She was hopeful, but Cyrille was still rather unsure of what to expect once they reached the second floor. Chills ran down her spine, but it was not time to be scared.
"Anise, are you still tightly holding on to that pipe?" She lightly spoke, her voice as hush as could be. Even if she was slightly scared, she didn't want to make it contagious towards her friends.

The third reason? It was just more fun that way. Cute alien girls? Hello.
Peony was about to congratulate the blonde when he heard faint sounds of a battle happening at the top of the stairs, and moved in front of Cyrille, trusty mop at hand. Turning back to the girls with his shine-tube, he whispered, "Hey, there's something up there. Do we want to try to sneak past or help whoever it is?"
Truthfully, Peony would be happy either way. Acting like a hero could probably be fun, especially if he got to save a cute girl - but sneaking past a battle could be just as fun, providing they didn't get caught.

And here the emperor was ready to jump right into it. As much as Anise liked that carefree nature of his, Guy and the colonel had entrusted her with his well-being! She couldn't let anything happen to him.
"Huh? Sure, I'd like to help them, but..." As a soldier, she would feel pretty rotten if a civilian got injured or killed while she was nearby. But that was nothing compared to the trouble she would be in if the emperor got hurt under her watch! "Is it really okay for us to go rushing headfirst into danger like that? We don't know what could be up there." She looked over at Cyrille, hoping she would also try talking some sense into the man.

It was also too early to be put out of commission.
"I agree with Anise," Cyrille whispered hastily, she did not seem to notice that her heart was beating at a quickened rate. "We have no means of healing or of a long range defense, perhaps we should lay low for now, Peony." The range of their attacks put them at a disadvantage, Cyrille thought. This was an unknown area for herself, what room would they have to run if it backfired? No, she did not want to have anyone injured at this moment.
And in case that wasn't enough reason to sway Peony, "I wouldn't think you'd want our," she tapped Anise's shoulder, hoping she'd follow along with her plan, "little date to end so early, would you?"
Cyrille nodded to herself, she was confident! "I think..." her voice tinted with a teensy bit of sweetness, "a fight would ruin the romantic mood. Right, Anise?"

And then Cyrille had to lay on the charm! Oh, would that his hands were not full with useful monster-slaying and passage-finding items, would that he were free to pull his little dream close to himself and protect her from the woes of Landel's Institute!
One could almost see the hearts floating around above his head as he replied, "Of course not~ I want to keep my hunnies safe and close as long as possible." He paused for a moment - the battle had seemed to have died down. Was it dead? He looked up, cast his flashlight around. No movement..
"Hey, it looks like we might be able to move up without a fight after all. I'll go first, just in case." And he started up the stairwell.

But then the emperor had to run ahead! Anise opened her mouth to shout after him, but quickly stopped herself before calling his title. Ack. Was she going to have to watch her mouth the whole time she was around Cyrille?
It did sound like the fight was over, but who was to say that the winner wasn't some hungry monster, ready to tear apart the next idiot to cross its path? "W-wait for me!" Anise scurried up the stairs after the emperor, determined to make sure he wouldn't be that idiot.

Stupid, stupid!
As they walked up the stairs, Cyrille took quick glances at the map. They were so far so good... not they just had to head towards the nurse's station on the right, and then forward. It would be easy... she hoped.
"This way," she politely pointed as they reached the top of the steps.

He'd have smacked it in the head, that's what.
He twirled the mop about in his hand, opening the stairs door long enough to stick one end of the wooden mop in the crack and pull it open.
"After you," he said cheerfully, ushering the two girls through, Anise first.
