Day 26: Game Room (fourth shift)

Aug 17, 2007 06:41

The only reason Momo decided to go to the Game Room was the fact that she hadn't been there yet. She really didn't have much desire to play any games, but Hitsugaya would be in the showers for at least the first part of the shift; she could at least look the room and what it has to offer over before relocating to the Sun Room to give her report to ( Read more... )

[ Coming from somewhere around here. ]

Riddick found himself escorted again, but this time the usually-chatty orderly was more reserved. About damn time. The staff member excused himself as soon as Riddick arrived in the game room, and the killer made his way to an empty wall, only glancing at the kid on the couch. Putting his back to the wall, Riddick sat on the floor with his hands behind his head and reviewed lunch quickly. There was a growing feeling of respect for Richter, but then the guy had been in WWI and Riddick himself had seen military service, although from an entirely more advanced era.

At any rate, he was looking forward to the shiv Richter had promised. And nightfall, when the fun supposedly began.

[from here]

Captain Jack was still vaguely annoyed about Mr. Cop-a-Feel showing up and raining all over his parade just when he'd been getting somewhere. But he was also old enough to know that hey, you couldn't win them all. The annoyance smoothed out quickly, though his smile remained unchanged.

He gave the room a quick scan, to see who was alone. There was a rather pretty girl by herself, but he decided to say hello to one of the men first, since he was more in the mood for that, as it was. He could always move on if the man didn't end up being... conversational.

He grabbed a deck of cards (he wasn't all that great at card games unless he wanted to cheat, but he also was a graceful loser to it worked out in the end) and headed over to the guy. "Afternoon," he said, cheerfully. "New here? I don't believe I've seen you around."

Riddick had been wondering if he'd be ignored the whole shift (which was fine with him) when he was approached by a guy who's initial attitude reminded Riddick of the orderly he hated. Great. He did have one unanswered question though, left over from an interrupted lunch powwow with what appeared to be the Landel's official night-vision club. Maybe it was worth the social annoyance to see if this guy knew the answer. There seemed to be a lot of information sharing between the more sociable prisoners, but then they hadn't managed to escape yet either...

"Yeah, first day in the zoo," replied Riddick to the deck-bearing stranger, keeping his relaxed and somewhat indifferent posture for the moment. He smirked enigmatically before continuing, his tone mildly amused. "Name's Riddick. You wouldn't happen to know what the fuck this 'Special Counseling' is, would you?"

Jack idly shuffled the cards; kept the hands limber, gave him something to do. "It's not so bad," he said. "Chow's better than any so-called prison I've ever been in." He grinned. "Though you wouldn't think so, the way people whine about it. Anyway... special counseling. So far I've managed to avoid anyone under the effects, so I can't give you personal observations. But what I've been told is that they take a couple people, ply them with drugs and who knows what else, and then set them loose on the rest of us. Though they also just seem to stick to one location, so can be avoided." He shrugged. "It doesn't sound that worrying, though there are - supposedly - some people here with some pretty ludicrous... abilities."

Ashe was so startled by the news, the story told to her by the apparent boy-emperor of Archadia during lunch, that she had little to offer in the manner of resistance when an escort arrived to lead her to the next activity. Had she not been in such a state of confusion and disbelief, she might have objected to being led to a recreational area as opposed to taking some time to quietly weigh her options in light of her lacking memory ( ... )

The wench somehow insisted on dragging Albel to the game room rather than the sun room. Not that any of it was much of a difference to the Elicoorian, as both were boring activities to the Captain. He really had no idea who made such as stupid routine-filled schedule full with useless ways to waste a person's time.

Plopping down on one of the chairs, he made no effort to hide how incredibly bored he was.

[coming from over here]
The shuffling cards came to a stop after a short while, and as the knights boredom grew, Yuber found his attentions drifting over the room in an attempt to find something interesting to do. It was then that his gaze fell onto one particular individual that he always found entertaining to annoy.

Yuber slipped easily from off the couch, before making his way over towards Albel. There had always been such a natural grace to the knights movements, and added to the fact that they remained entirely silent, it made Yuber’s presence always difficult to detect. Not that Yuber took any notice of such things anymore and as the distance between himself and Albel closed, the knight announced himself as he chuckled quietly in amusement.

“That bored without my company hmm?” He greeted with a Cheshire smile.

"Hmph, the whole dayshift is boring. The presence of maggots like you isn't going to change that, you know." Albel pointed out, merely sparing the other man a glance.

"What do you want, worm?"

“Ah yes but of course,” Yuber’s bemused expression remained as he was spared a glance, and the knight soon found himself falling easily into one of the chairs near where Albel sat.

Resting his elbow on the arm of the chair, Yuber’s chin came to rest in the palm of his hand lazily as his attention remained on Albel. “To merely seek out such companionable company,” The knight murmured in response to the question. Just knowing that his mere presence irked the other patient was more than enough of a reason to pay them a visit.

From the cafeteria, the nurse led Kikyo away to change out of his tea drenched clothing and to tend to his bruising face and lip. Why the silly woman even pretended to care for his well being was of little consequence. He let her lead him around as he fell into an almost sulky silence, not caring where she moved him.

"Be sure to keep that ice pack on...it'll help with the swelling. Let me know if you need anything else, alright? I'll be right over there," the nurse said as she sat him gently down to a couch. She gazed at him with a friendly smile, but he had already looked away indifferently.

His face was stinging from pain. It felt like Ran had channeled all his hate and anguish into that blow, and its residual effect would leave its imprint long after the bruising went away.

Whether he was living and breathing here, it did not matter. He was dead to him, already. Only fools asked forgiveness for things that could not be forgiven.

And Kikyo was no fool.

Ken's nurse ignored his request to be taken to the Sun Room ("You need to interact more with your fellow patients!") and instead steered him into the Game Room. Before Ken could look around and see if anyone he knew was in the room, the busybody nurse sat him down next to another patient. She vanished after an admonition to behave, no more fighting would be tolerated, and a few other things Ken tuned out. She talked too much.

"Hey," Ken greeted, barely even sparing a glance at the other man.

With a suppressed sigh, Kikyo pressed the icepack to his cheek, gazing out into the void at nothing in particular. If it weren't for the dizzying pain throbbing from his bruise, he would feel so completely numb. Inside, and out. His mind was drifting off into shapeless thoughts, the mindless chattering around him muffling into nothing.

It took him a moment to realize that someone had addressed him, and though he was not in the most receptive of moods at present, he turned his eyes upon the stranger nevertheless.

"Hello," he replied with a slight arch of an eyebrow.

Now that Ken actually took a moment to look at who he was speaking to, he winced in sympathy at the bruise on Kikyo's face. "You got pummeled too, huh?" His own icepack had been abandoned at lunch, but the darkening bruise on his face was enough sign of his own earlier scuffle. "They really suck at breaking up fights here."

Not knowing who he was speaking to, Ken rattled on. "I'm Ken." After Naoya, he was reluctant to give his last name. He hated being called 'Hidaka-san.'

((Waiting for Aidou))

Roland was rather glad to get out of the lunch conversation when he did. Too much more and he might not have had the ability to control himself. As it was, the lunch staff had claimed he'd had more than enough after four heaping plates, even though Roland still felt the hunger.

Normal food, really, just wasn't enough.

So the man decided to go to the game room, noticing the vast majority of the patients going to the sun room instead. Not that he'd mind. Less visible flesh, less desire to sink his teeth into it. It'd be for the best. And to keep anyone away, he took a deck of cards and started dealing out a game of Klondike, just to keep his mind occupied.

...and, of course, the first face-up card would be the Ace of Hearts. Already Roland could feel his mouth watering. A still-beating heart, dripping with hot blood and bursting when he tore apart the flesh, his face stained red by the time he'd gotten it down...

...maybe company wouldn't be such a bad thing after all.

Aidou was also thankful to be freed from the cafeteria, for both unwanted conversation and the growing hunger in his belly. Although Miku wasn't a poor conversation partner, every time he looked at her face, he thought of the person who was also on the forefront of her mind - Aoyagi. And Aoyagi's blood. And how he'd known in the worst possible way that, had the end of night not spirited them away again, he would done something truly irrevocable. He'd been one step away from killing both, and when trapped in that mindframe, the bloodlust always, always creeped in at the edges of his vision...

Aoyagi had been bleeding so heavily too. Just a child, and yet Aidou knew he would have been so hard put not to fall on him and sink his fangs as deep as they could go...

Again, he went to the Game Room (smaller, quieter, sleep), and found two familiar faces with which to use as a buffer zone for the rest of the room. Momo was rejected on the basis of being female, so that left the slobbering lightning monster guy, Roland. The initial meeting ( ... )

"'Demon Patience'?" Roland raised a pale eyebrow at that, rather confused at the term. Was that the term Aidou used for the card game? How odd. "Where I come from, we call it 'Klondike' or 'Solitaire,'" he idly corrected the vampire, though his thoughts weren't on that ( ... )

Aidou couldn't help a slight smile as he folded his arms behind his head, eyes closed. "Yes, those names are certainly the more common variations."

Although he would never use the term fear, he did find Roland to be less of an extreme than Indra. Less of a threat. He wasn't concerned over stretching out along the cough and relaxing, whether Roland was slobbering over his scent or not.

One day, though, things would probably come to a head, whether Aidou strove for it or not. There couldn't be two predators lurking amongst the sheep without some kind of confrontation, and by the way things looked, Aidou suspected there were a great deal more than those he knew about: himself, Alucard, and Roland. After all, he was pretty sure neither had posted that ridiculous note about brains. He sighed a little. No doubt it'd fall on his head to put all of them down when they got too rowdy ( ... )
