from hereStepping out of the bathroom, and out into the corridor, Elphaba looked down the long hallways adjacent to the corridor, scanning the darkness for signs of life. She could have sworn she'd heard someone moving about, but perhaps the noise was coming from beyond the door to her right. She leaned against the door, pressing her ear to it, straining to hear what was going on in the rooms beyond. She heard voices, nervous whispers mingling with bold declarations. If those voices were guards, they were tremendously worried about something. Then again, if they were not, and were other prisoners...
Realizing she'd put herself completely in their sights the moment she stepped into the room beyond, Elphaba decided it would be prudent to wait until the voices faded, and then follow at a safe distance. She took a few paces back from the door, and settled against the wall.
