Night 25: Intercom, Night

The laughing started from just a small chuckle, the static the only thing interrupting otherwise unquestionable mirth.

"Do you really believe you scare me, Alec? Do you?" A chair creaked as it swung forward, and the Head Doctor guffawed. "You always were the weaker of the two of us! Weak in body, weak in mind, weak in conviction and confidence. And now you blame me for your mistakes. Silly, stupid doctor... Always thinking you have power and morality that doesn't exist in this world, not after all we've seen."

He paused, flipping through papers as he normally did during the day.

"Oh my, is it time to call out the new patients already? Well, then, come forth! Group 2 is now a part of our wonderful Landel's purgatory--and I do say purgatory because I am stuck here too, stuck to deal with you ingrates day after day, night after night. When do I sleep? Who the hell knows."

He sighed, tsk-tsking in the absence of words.

"In any case, Alec, I'm amazed at your hypocrisy. Me? A charlatan? This coming from the self-proclaimed savior who spews no more than riddles as easily and happily as our friend downstairs. Oh, my, did I just give some cryptic clue whose origin is as hard to decipher as the words themselves? I thought that was your job.

"In any case, I'm done putting up with your goading tonight. Try me when I'm in a worse mood, Doyle. Then maybe you'll get a rise out of the 'monster' you freely insult but have no courage to face."

The intercom clicked off with a hiss and a crackle.
