[[From here]]Miku stumbled into her empty room and headed for her bed. Unlike other nights, her dubious roommate was not in attendance. That was fine, she needed to think quietly ( Read more... )

Alfons didn't believe in 'gut instincts.' He didn't really believe in 'divine inspiration.' The world was a very rational place to him, and even with all of the things going on in the Institute and with everything else, he still believed that scientific thought would solve all of the problems.

Therefore, he wasn't expecting anything at all when he made his way to Miku's room, checking his map from time to time as he strolled along. He still wasn't sure about this 'Byakko' person, but if it was someone who could protect Miku, then that would be the important thing. ...even if it hurt to admit this, even to himself.

Shaking his head out of those thoughts, he pocketed the map and shifted his flashlight to his other hand before quietly knocking on Miku's door. Hopefully she'd waited for him. "Miku, are you in there? It's me, Alfons."

"Mm?" Miku sat straight up in bed, head down, and rubbing at her eyes with her good hand. That was Alfons's voice, wasn't it?

Alfons! her brain snapped to attention and got her moving off the bed a little jerkily. "Alfons-kun!" she sounded surprised to see him. "You came..." she searched for her light, oh, where was it, where was it?

"Er, yes, I did. Um..." And he shifted awkwardly, hearing the faint squeak of springs and Miku obviously flustered, and not feeling comfortable at all with intruding. What if she wasn't decent? Or maybe she'd just woken up, or something?

Regardless, he was relieved that he wasn't too late; that would have been the only unforgivable thing. "I did," he softly called through the door, "I don't want you meeting someone new without me there, after all."

"Come in... I... I can't find my flashlight, I must've fallen asleep on it," Miku swept her hand across the bed and finally found the familiar bump and flicked it on, setting it light-side-up on her bed.

The half light made it easier to see. Her bedsheets were still turned up, but mussed from lightly sleeping, and she wobbled a little before giving up and sitting on the bed. "Have you seen Ritsuka-kun anywhere? I was... stopped on my way out."

When Miku invited him in, Alfons accepted the offer... not without a little bit of trepidation, and making sure to confirm that she was decent before closing the door behind him. And then... then he saw that she wobbled, how she couldn't stand up on her own, and concern took over.

So he sat next to her, gently wrapping an arm around her slender shoulders with concern clearly evident in his blue eyes. "No, I haven't seen him yet... are you all right, though? You look-" He wanted to say 'half-dead,' but instead settled with, "-a little worn-out."

"'A little' is being too kind, Alfons-kun," Miku replied and leaned her head on his shoulder. "I know I haven't been well since this afternoon."

Since she touched Renji's note and... saw... all of that... whatever it was. Non-moe molestation? Her stomach heaved in memory, though it was dry. Miku swallowed. "I'm sorry, if I've made you worry. It wasn't my intention." She touched the fingers of her good left hand to his around her shoulder.

"I probably should go out... but, if it helps us find a way... I don't mind."

"It's okay, I worry about all of my friends," Alfons quietly answered, gently squeezing her when he felt those fingers touching his hand. There was obviously something tremendously wrong, something had happened, but... what? And why? "But... did something happen then? You seemed okay earlier today..."

To be honest, Alfons didn't know if he should take Miku with him, or just let her sleep for the night. She looked like she needed as much rest as she could get, but if she'd made plans...

"...Something...?" Miku shifted, uncomfortably. She couldn't, wouldn't, tell what she'd seen about Renji.

To anyone.

Ever.

"I..." Miku struggled to find the words, it was so much easier to simply not tell. "I..." Renji knew, what was one more?

"I'll be fine. It was just a dizzy spell," she held back and moved her head, the girl's body becoming rigid.

F30, F20, F10... Ah-hah! That must be it! Byakko turned down the hallway, congratulating himself on his superb sense of direction (see, he hadn't got lost once!). And they went down in tens so Miku's must be the first one on the corridor, unless things were even more bizarre in the alien territory of the women's bedrooms.

He hovered uncertainly outside the door for a moment before knocking as loudly as he thought was prudent. "Hinasaki-san? It's Byakko."

Alfons still wasn't sure about that- who was allowed to have dizzy spells besides himself?- but before he could try to speak up there was a knock on the door. He knew that Byakko had been expected, but the timing wasn't the best.

...or perhaps it was? Maybe, once Miku had gotten a little rest and was feeling better, she'd be better off. Maybe. For now, he just nodded to Miku, and finally removed his hand after giving one last reassuring squeeze.

Despite what Landel's led her to believe, there was a god, and he had a fantastic sense of timing. She gave Alfons a smile and hurried to open the door.

"Byakko-san, I'm coming!" she called and sidestepped desk with her still-covered meal on it. She opened the door slowly, prepared to close the door swiftly should it prove to be someone other than Byakko.

Someone else in there too? Huh. Though she had mentioned other friends after all. It wasn't as though he minded. He was a gregarious creature by nature.

He waited patiently until the door was opened, approving of her wariness. He bowed and then straightened up, grinning cheerfully. "I hope you're feeling better tonight, Hinasakai-san. And your friend too," he added, peering over her shoulder at the blond boy.

Well, at least the newcomer seemed friendly enough? Alfons instantly went into Protective Older Brother mode, having taken flashlight in hand and moved behind her, prepared to clonk whoever it was that had opened the door. He'd failed last night, but he wouldn't do so again!

That was why his voice was polite yet professional as he nodded in acknowledgment to Byakko's greetings. "I'm Alfons Heiderich, it's a pleasure to meet you," he answered, wondering if he could really trust this person. After all, there had been that warning about stalkers...

"I'm... well." In a way. Sleeping that little bit had helped, and she had no desire to continue to worry people. Like Aidou, and Alfons. Miku bowed gently in return, feeling her blood pound behind her eyeballs, before she straightened and allowed him inside.

"You... didn't run into trouble, did you?" she asked, wide brown eyes worried. It appeared that Alfons was acting protective, and... well, it was fine. She didn't know Byakko very well, but he'd given her a good impression.

Well, he wasn't entirely sure that he believed that she was fine exactly, but she didn't look as deathly pale as earlier, didn't seem about readfy to collapse again. "I'm glad to hear it." He slipped past her and into the room, smiling and nodding at the boy with her. "And you too, Heiderich-san."

Byakko shook his head, a surprisingly casual gesture considering what this place was. "No trouble, although I heard and smelled a few fights going on. All the creatures here smell terrible."

Alfons couldn't help but think that he was missing something, the way that Miku had handled his previous questions really made him wonder. Then again... he always was a little more sensitive about such things than most people. After all, he had his own dirty secrets that he didn't want made public.

When Byakko mentioned 'smelling' the monsters, Alfons looked at him rather blankly. "They smell terrible? Well, I suppose that's the case, but... at any rate, I hope that the people fighting are all right."

Considering what had happened last night, Alfons was just a bit more concerned about his fellow patients than he normally would be. And while haste was sometimes needed, that strange casual gesture made Alfons wonder if the other man had just ignored those who might have needed help. In any case, minus five points! Alfons was most definitely not letting Miku travel alone with this man.
