[From

Momo arrived at the designated meeting spot for Rukia and Signum to find the other shinigami already there. Rukia looked thoroughly frazzled, and it didn't take a genius to know what was causing it. The vice captain was worried about Renji, too, but she hoped Rukia would follow through with her mission. Renji would never forgive himself if his situation caused Rukia to disobey orders.
"Kuchiki-san," the vice captain said as she approached. She paused, looking at the katana for a moment, and then held it out, hilt first, to the other shinigami.
A part of her really didn't want to let it go, the familiar feel of a katana in her hands almost too much, but it wasn't hers and her honor dictated she return it to its owner. Since Renji wanted Rukia to have, a notion she completely understood, the smaller shinigami would have it.
Though when Rukia took hold of it, Momo didn't let go. Not yet. She needed a moment with the woman before she ran off to Renji. She met the woman's eyes and put a comforting hand to Rukia's cheek.
"Listen to me, Rukia," Momo said in a quiet but steady, grounding voice, her eyes reflecting Rukia's concern. "Renji's going to be okay. He's strong; he won't die. He'd never forgive himself if he left you alone. Just... please don't press him for information tonight. Hold him and he'll be alright. Trust me."
Momo removed her hand and released the katana fully into Rukia's possession. "We have things we must do. Be careful." And with that, Momo turned and left on her mission.

Signum stalked into the connecting hall with a slightly-too-confident air that had apparently gone undiminished by her encounter with the incorporeal whatever from last night, frying pans held easily at her side in a humorous pantomime of a grip more appropriate to a real weapon.
"Reporting for duty, captain." She bowed to Momo, face straight save for an amused glimmer in her eye.

"Let's go," she said, wiping away a tear. With a shake of her head at the silliness of her friend, the shinigami headed to meet Histugaya.

The Vice Captain's words let her unable to reply; she simply nodded as the two women left. Don't press him for information tonight. What was that supposed to mean? Did Hinamori know something Rukia didn't? She was acting like she knew Renji better than...
As Rukia continued quickly on her way, she thought that perhaps Hinamori did know Renji better... After all, Rukia hadn't seen him much in the past 40 years. She tried to push that thought away; feeling sorry for herself and dwelling on the past wasn't going to help any of them right now.
