Day 25: Sun Room (Second Shift)

Jun 29, 2007 02:05

Miku was very glad that the breakfast shift (and the uncomfortable conversation) was over. She hadn't felt like gardening - the photographer was likely more apt to killing plants - and her arm throbbed beneath its bandages ( Read more... )

Before Rukia left the cafeteria, she found one of the nurses, asking politely, and with the most pathetic expression she could muster, if she could be excused from the greenhouse activities. The nurse looked her over, apparently noting the sling and the way Rukia was holding her side as though in pain ( ... )

Renji was lucky enough to locate the nurse whose shoes he had graced earlier. She had seemed really nice, but not annoying, so he wanted to keep track of her. And she was quite sympathetic to letting him lay down in the sun room.

He spotted Rukia immediately, though he did pause to wave to Miku first. She was talking to someone else, so he didn't want to just interrupt; that might make her less willing to talk.

He walked slowly over to where Rukia was sitting. There was another couch nearby, one that was only a little too short for him, instead of way too short. He scooted it closer to hers, then lay down on it, head resting on the arm closest to Rukia and feet hanging off the other. Just that made his head feel a lot better.

"Hey," she said quietly when Renji wandered over. Aidou was lying down, hopefully sleeping, on another couch, so Rukia didn't want to risk waking him; he would no doubt try to bother her. She glanced his way to make sure that he wasn't stirring.

She closed the notebook and set it next to her on the couch, then leaned against the arm to turn toward Renji. "Glad you could make it. Did you have to pass out, or puke again, or whatever it was you did earlier?" He really did look a lot better than he had when she first saw him this morning, so Rukia assumed he had puked. Passing out usually didn't put any color back in your cheeks.

Renji's eyebrow twitched. "I just talked to the nurse that was around earlier," he said. He wasn't admitting to either of those options, even if it had been the latter that he'd done. "I guess I still look pathetic enough."

A stray hair tickled at his nose, and he blew it out of the way, looking annoyed. "Too bad you don't have both your hands," he said. While he could braid his own hair - and probably would, soon, if it kept getting on his nerves - he really liked it better when Rukia did it.

"And who's that?" he asked, pointing to whoever she'd been giving the hairy eyeball to a moment ago.

Hisoka had never been happier to see his nurse, especially considering the direction his conversation with Tsuzuki had been going. It had been treading dangerous grounds and the last thing Hisoka needed was for Tsuzuki to actually believe he was going soft.

So for the first time since his arrival at Landel's, Hisoka had actually been relieved as the woman showed up to drag him outside.

Only the nurse's plans got skewed along the way as her not-so-angry-today charge managed to convince her that he had already been outside yesterday and today he would like to go to the Sun Room.

Hell, it worked. Today was a day filled with surprises. When he arrived there was only two other individuals in the room-- two girl, one Hisoka did not recognize, the other Rukia. Despite the girl's solitude, Hisoka really doubted she was in the mood for conversation, a decision the empath was quite grateful for. He wasn't all that willing for conversation right now, either.

As for Rukia, well... asking about kidou could wait a bit. Just until Hisoka ( ... )

As people began leaving the cafeteria, Hokuto looked down at the uniform they all wore, and resisted the urge to puke on it. It was by far the most hideous thing she'd ever been forced to wear, preschool smock included--honestly, she would have prefered that to this, ugly green shade and all. Even at age four, she'd hated it... and yet, looking at her uniform now, she missed it. Still, she didn't like the idea of digging around in the dirt with it--she liked flowers, but she wasn't really into gardening, even if a coat of dirt would be an improvement on this thing.

"Do you like gardening, Kazuko?" a nurse asked, coming up to her.

Hokuto just looked at her, schooling her face to be expressionless. Weren't there any other options? "I don't want to garden," she said. "I was eaten by a tree once. Just a few days ago. It hurt."

"Oh, honey..." The nurse looked like she wanted to hug her. "You know that's not true. You made it up. How could you be here if a tree had eaten you ( ... )

Of course, out of all the other people in the room to talk to, this woman had to single him out for interrogation. It was divine irony, as Renji had put it, being forced into countless conversations when Hisoka was quite certain that if he never spoke again it'd be too soon.

The boy opened his eyes and fixed Hokuta with a cool stare. If anything, this woman was going to be annoying. He could tell this already even with the few seven words already spoken based on the fact that she was willing to speak with a complete stranger regardless of if they had obviously isolated themselves on purpose and obviously attempting to sleep.

Hisoka fought back a sigh. "Kurosaki Hisoka" Might as well give her that much, maybe she would go away soon.

Hokuto just smiled when he opened his eyes and spoke to her. "Nice to meet you. Have you been here long?"

She was leaning back against the couch, fairly close to Hisoka but not touching, and not leaning forward. Fun as it could be, she wasn't trying to flirt in any sense; she could tell he wouldn't exactly appreciate it. She considered asking what he was supposedly in here for, but decided he might not take that well... besides, she hadn't yet managed to find out what her own "illness" was. Extreme fear of trees and pink petals? Delusions of an unbeating heart? (Neither was true in any sense, but considering she was pretty sure she was still perfectly sane...)

Outdoor recreation? Please. He'd had enough exercise.

As he refused to go the easy route and merely whine to the stupid nurse about his agonizing and bloodcurdling injury, he just adamantly refused to step foot outside. When Aidou refused to do something, it came down to a force of nature to move him: namely, Kaname-sama. Or his nurse when he'd been young. This nurse was annoyingly human - hitting her wouldn't have made him feel bad; more or less, it would be gross punching someone so old - and eventually he got his small wish.

Jeez, but he was going to become diurnal at this rate.

With a couch to himself, and his lanky body stretched out so it stayed that way, Aidou pulled his journal out and opened it over his face. He was asleep faster than was normally possible for him.

As much as Jack Horner would have preferred to go outside, the broken collarbone made it difficult. Sure, he would have been fine if he just made sure not to lift his arm too high out of the sling, but he figured why should he bother if he could just sit down and relax? It wasn't as if the previous night hadn't been stressful.

Entering the sun room, Jack headed for bulletin board, but noticed the blonde kid on the sofa. Remembering his previous experience with the message board, he sauntered over and stood next to the couch. Was this the same blonde kid as had been here yesterday? Only one way to find out. He kicked the side of the couch, making it shake. "Hey," he said, "Did you want to speak with me?"

Grabbing the arm of the couch throughout the jolt, Aidou prayed he didn't intentionally slice the fabric with some ill-timed clawing. He'd actually been sleeping rather peacefully -what was with all these interruptions!? He pulled the journal away, lifting his face only enough to scowl. He couldn't help rubbing an eye throughout, lessening the effect.

"Was that really necessary?"

Want wasn't the right word for it. More like, 'had made a vague suggestion'. Caring whether or not the meeting happened was also unviable.

What he really wanted was to crawl back into the beckoning arms of sleep.

Jack shrugged his shoulders and flashed a toothy grin. "You're awake now, aren't you?"

He pointed at Aidou, then motioned to the bulletin board. "You ARE the same guy from that, right?"

Miku had fled rather quickly from the table once the intercom announced the end of the shift. Ritsuka couldn't blame her and, although he wanted to go outside, his nurse appeared to bundle him off to the Sun Room. Her excuse was that his injuries were too great to risk opening them in a game outside. Ritsuka smiled at her and nodded, all the while thinking she was a moron. He wasn't stupid enough to play a game while hurt like this. He was just going to go sleep in the sunlight for a bit.

Instead, he found himself following Miku's dust trail into the Sun Room. He spotted Aidou sleeping on the couch, Hisoka talking to someone, and Miku draped out on a second couch nearby. He turned red at the thought of talking with her again, but didn't know if Aidou wanted to talk. The last time they'd seen each other, the vampire had chased him off and since then they hadn't really talked at all. Ritsuka sighed as his nurse left and settled down near Miku's couch, sitting on the floor and trying to keep as quiet as possible.

Brother... Rei-chan... why aren't you waiting for me? Please wait! Please!

Miku had nearly been at that place again, between wakefulness and sleep, where that manor sat in the snow and little girls sang a lullaby. But... someone had disrupted it, and she woke up slowly. There was a little dark-haired head sitting nearby.

Her bad hand reached out of it's own accord and tapped on his shoulder, "Aoyagi-kun...?" she murmured, voice lower than usual.

In the quiet of the Sun Room, Ritsuka had tried dozing off, comforted by the nearby presence of someone familiar. There was no one else nearby that he could honestly go to for comfort. He was really worried about Alfons, but he could only hope that the boy had been taken care of as he had. Legs drawn up to his chest, he'd been resting his forehead on his knees when he felt the tap on his shoulder. Despite himself, Ritsuka jumped slightly. "...didn't mean to wake you up."

He raised his head slightly and looked over at the older girl. She seemed to be waking out of a dream and he felt a little guilty for disturbing her. He turned away again, gazing out across the room and letting the warm sun beat down on him.

"It's fine," she replied and swallowed a yawn. "I shouldn't be sleeping so much..." It was like every moment spent in the sun made her sleep was she becoming a lizard? Scary.

Miku sat up straight on the couch, feeling the frightening familiar pressure of Renji behind her somewhere, paired with another just as frightening energy. The medium swallowed and looked around the arm of the couch, scanning for the unfairly tall Japanese man. Ghost. Man. Ghost-man?

When she saw them she found both him and a small black-haired woman leaning close to him, she smiled, because he wasn't so scary... blushing like that. Miku pushed her hair from her face and nodded at him, and then turned to Ritsuka. "Why don't you sit up here, instead? It's easier to rest."

The interruptions as the patients were herded to yet another activity was an incidence that occurred more than Xemnas would have liked. If the Nobody somehow had the capability to feel only the slightest irritation, he would certainly be feeling it now.

The Superior had no desire to spend another shift doing the various recreational activities, thus politely requested if he could perhaps remain indoors. Surprisingly, the request hadn't fallen upon deaf ears.

Claiming a spot on one of the couches, he pulled out his journal and began writing.

As thrilling her conversation with Eddie had been, sadly, it had come to and end as ever annoying Head Doctor announced the next activity. Larxene had no intention of joining the other women for their little gardening sessions. And while she was arguably more of a man than all of the other Organization members, it was unlikely that they would allow her on the field.

So, to keep herself entertained, she would have to find a suitable victim to annoy and bother until lunch. Xigbar was already there, but the Nymph was going to keep her distance from him until she verified his information. That didn’t stop her from noticing someone else, though.

Having a conversation with Xemnas, who for all intents and purposes, was already aware of her plans with Marluxia. If that wasn’t an entertaining and potentially dangerous thought, nothing else was.

“Well now…” she said, approaching and sitting down next to him. “How is The Superior enjoying his stay in Landel’s, I wonder?”

Xemnas ceased his writing as he heard the familiar voice of none other than XII. Closing his journal, a smirk found its way on his lips as his gaze shifted to the other Nobody.

"Oh, if I somehow had the capability of enjoying my stay within this facility." The Superior replied. "But such is the way of the nonexistent."

Hmm, he had his journal with him... Larxene couldn't help but wonder what he was writing in it. Being the Superior, she figured he had plenty of things to write about. Oh the curiosity!

"Well then, I'd say it's good we can't really feel anything. Because that way, we won't have to worry about going crazy from being cooped up in this place?"

You can’t go insane if you don’t have any emotions, or, if you’re already insane in the first place.

"Isn't that right?"
