Nightshift 24 - Courtyard

Jun 04, 2007 13:15

[from here]Without much difficulty, Xemnas finally reached the courtyard. His orange eyes scanned his surroundings as he carefully moved though the darkness, on his guard for a possible ambush. He had not put on his flashlight, as it would attract unwanted attention. The Superior didn't want any unnecessary distractions, after all ( Read more... )

James only had it going for him that he was quick when it came to running, and when it came to running from Pyramid Head, he was a pro. If it ever became an Olympic event, he was taking home the gold hands down. Among that patients of Landel's, James may have been the only one who knew for a fact that bullets (even shotgun ones at a close range) didn't stop the thing. He'd taken a swipe at the thing in the water labyrinth with its own Great Knife, and that hadn't stopped it. Nearly gotten James himself speared, but it hadn't stopped it.

He literally dove through the shattered door, trying to shut it behind him if it would do so on its broken frame. James' best hope right now was that Pyramid Head was slowed as he had been in that room in Brookhaven Hospital before the sirens had started. How many times had that blade of the thing's smashed down beside him, barely sidestepping it before running to the other side of the room? James' hands pawed through whatever he could reach, discarding most of it immediately. Any second now, Pyramid Head was going to come through that door.

His hands grabbed something, taking James a minute to realize just what it was: the weedeater Xemnas had left. Tugging on its cord, the thing buzzed to life. It wasn't a chainsaw like he would have preferred, but it was something at least.

He came closer and closer, faster than he had ever been with his sword. As soon as the shed was within spearing distance, he thrust it forward, splintering the wood of the shed's side and narrowly missing James hiding within. As he jerked it out, the weedeater came to life - but Pyramid Head hardly seemed to notice. He only brought the spear back and then rammed it into the shed again.

It was like he was trying to spear James from the outside, to kill him without every laying eyes (eyes?) on him.

Misty Day, Remains of the Judgment

James ducked as best he could clutching the live weedeater before him. Wood splintered and flew, cold steel slamming past his head. Another inch over, and he would have been squirming on that spear like a landed fish. The idea alone made him cold, remembering Maria's hand reaching through the closing doors of the elevator as he tried to reopen them, to save her.

When the spear slammed through again, James let go of the power switch for the weedeater, powering it down. Another idea had come to him. Whether or not it worked was going to be up to how quick-minded Pyramid Head was and if he could manage to surprise the creature. What he tried to do was wedge the weedeater under the head of the spear, at the same time shoving all his weight against it. The basic idea was to snap the thing around to be flush against the shed's wall on both side. If he was lucky, he hoped to surprise Pyramid Head and maybe smack the creature with the shaft of his own weapon or jerk it out of its hands.

He hoped.

It was possible that the plan could have worked, but the spear's shaft was too strong, too horrifically made, to be jerked from Pyramid Head's hands. However, the effort James put into the shove did throw Pyramid Head off balance momentarily - the spear slid to the side just enough to drag his arms forward, and he paused, giving the hiding man within a small window of opportunity to do with as he wished.

(Perhaps Pyramid Head had never had his weapon attacked before. Certainly his body had been abused - gunshots and blade slices and boards with nails in them - but never his weapon.)
