Toward the end of the hallway, something moaned, the sound ending in a choked gurgle. Then the sound of skittering, the click of claws on the floor, an unsteady thump.

It approached.

Whatever maggot was waiting at the end of the hallway, it was heading into his direction. Reaching with his good hand for his knife, Albel waited for whatever headed for him.

The leftover continued its approach, becoming visible as it neared. It had the head of a dog, though one ear was missing and had been replaced with that of a human. Two straight, narrow horns were set between its ears. Arms and legs, none matching, none the same size, none quite in the right place, all sporting sharp claws. Its body was long and scaled.

It moved slowly at first, casting from side to side as if searching for a scent. Then it stopped in the center of the hallway, eyes fixed on Albel, and growled; the sound was more like a moan.

Far faster than its previous movements would have indicated, far faster than it should have been able to move with its mismatched limbs, it launched itself at Albel, jaws snapping.

This worm wasn't just ugly, it was disgusting. A mad scientist' wet dream come to live, actually. As the creature slowly crept closer, Albel clenched the knife in his fist and slided into its battle pose.

As its eyes finally took note of the captain, it let out a growl and launched itself at the Elicoorian. However, Albel wasn't one to stand still and watch. He ducked out of the way (as far as it was possible in this little hallway), hitting the ground and instantly climbing to his feet.

It seemed was getting the excitement he was wishing for...
