Nightshift 24: Stairs Near Doctor Offices

It didn't take them long to reach the second stairwell.  Gin approached it slowly, training his flashlight down the dark hallway and then up the stairs as far as he could see.  Nothing.  For all the talk about monsters on the bulletin boards, they seemed to be fairly rare and from what he'd seen, not all that powerful.  He wasn't about to ( Read more... )

Jack followed as quietly as he could. "You want to stay on point?" he asked, as quietly as he could. Gin had gotten them here, but after this, they were back in unknown territory, so it didn't matter who went first.

He followed up four steps behind; close enough but not crowding.

Gin threw a quick glance back over his shoulder. "S'fine," he replied, then turned, his gaze focusing on the turn in the staircase and what lay beyond. "Hasn' been my turn yet, ne? So might as well." Didn't want Jack thinking he wasn't a team player, or whatever nonsense. Besides, he was confident enough in his own abilities not to get himself killed without considerable effort.

Jack snorted, but quietly. That was good of him. While he didn't mind being in the lead, it was kind of nice to see someone else willing to take the more dangerous position for once. He'd just have to do a really good job watching Gin's back in exchange.

At least no giant spiders had dropped on them yet. This was a much better staircase than the other one.

Kuja had quickly discovered the stairwell in the hallway. Pausing his careful pace in front of it, he gazed into the darkness from above. His eyes slightly narrowed as he squinted into the dark hole.

The stage seemed to be clear of obstacles for now, and the sorcerer was planning to make use of it as long as possible. Danger often lurked within the cage, after all.

Carefully ascending the stairs, he kept his eyes open for any threats.
