Night 60: Front Desk (Medical Wing)

[From here.]

This place looked the same as it did three nights ago... Except this time they were the only prisoners here. No distracting traffic, more room to roam quietly, and as result, a better chance for them to hear if something unfriendly was trying to sneak up on them. Not to mention being the first ones here meant everything was undisturbed ( Read more... )

Zero made quick work of the door, and they were in. This area was completely new to her, so Erika was especially attentive when she stepped into the office, glancing at everything her eyes could make out with the flashlight's dull beam. Every inch of the room was being carefully memorized, and her concentration looked so intense that one could have reasonably assumed that she didn't even hear Zero's questions. Fortunately, this was not the case, as Erika was attentive of all things around her, which included sounds. She wasn't up for being made into a stray monster's snack anytime soon, after all.

"I have no idea, I'm afraid. I imagine we'll have to venture further in to figure that out." It made sense that anything important would be kept in the back, assuming this place operated normally. Of course, this was Landel's gameboard, so maybe there was a stupid obscure puzzle hidden in here. Then again, this particular addition could have been Aguilar's, which in that case... It was probably in the back.

While Erika was musing over exactly whom she should blame for this, her eyes fell on a most interesting sight, one that brought a smile to her face. It was a welcome sight, something that she wasn't expecting, but something that she also would welcome with open arms.

Erika stepped over to the desk, reaching her hand in the glass bowl full of lollipops sitting on the surface and snatching one. After a quick examination, she couldn't find anything outwardly wrong with it and shrugged, unwrapping the sweet and putting it in her mouth. If there was anything weird in it, they were going to find out, but Erika was willing to risk that if it meant she had a chance of dying happy.

"..."

On second thought, why stop at one. She lifted the whole bowl off of the desk, cradling it in her arm as she used her tongue to shove the lollipop in her mouth off to the side so she could still speak.

"Let's try looking in the back." It sounded a bit slurred now that her mouth was full, but Erika looked far too content for someone who looked so intense a second ago.

So she didn't know... They'd be searching blindly, then. No problem. Zero was sure they'd find the right room somehow. This area couldn't be that large, right? He didn't remember it being too large the last time he'd been here, anyway. Then again, he'd only explored one or two hallways and ultimately hadn't gotten very far... But at least it was better than having no experience with this area at all.

Regardless...the sooner they headed off, the better. Just as he was about to say that, though, his companion suddenly had the need to investigate the nearby desk. At first the once-Reploid assumed she was looking for information or something else useful, but then he saw what she was actually getting into...a glass bowl filled with weird-looking sticks. Sticks that apparently were edible, whatever they were; the girl was pulling the paper off of one and shoving it in her mouth, and she obviously liked it.

...Liked it enough to go and abduct the entire bowl of sticks like it was nothing.

......O...kay then.

Yes, Zero was currently staring at the girl like she'd lost her mind. And who wouldn't? What the heck did she do that for, anyway? She wasn't expecting those sticks to help them find the drugs in some way, was she? And no, he was not about to start walking off without some sort of comment on Erika's sudden...kleptomania. Of edible sticks. (Seriously, what.)

"....Are you planning on throwing that at a monster?" he asked flatly, slightly raising an eyebrow.

Was it really that strange that she liked lollipops? Perhaps Zero was not a fan, but Erika supposed she could understand how one might find her priorities a little questionable. She shrugged and held the bowl out, deciding to cement their newfound partnership with a gesture of goodwill. That, and if this candy was drugged, she didn't want to be the only one going down with the ship, but she hardly suspected that would be the case.

"If you want one, all you have to do is say so," She replied cheekily, deciding to take this chance to move forward in the medical wing. This place looked like it was larger then she anticipated, and she knew she had to watch out for the presence of danger, so she certainly wasn't going to go too far. Or do anything foolish like be the first one to enter a room. Once she saw that the area beyond the desk was empty, for the most part, she slowly made her way past Zero and into the space beyond.
